Why is Jerusalem significant to your religion or cultural group?

Christianity:

Jerusalem is important to Christians because that's where Jesus Christ was brought to occassionally as a child, preached, crucified and resurrected by God.

Judaism:

  • 1) Jerusalem is the center of Judaism. It is important to Jews because it was the site of the Akeidah (Binding of Isaac, in Genesis ch.22) and was later the seat of the Davidic Kings, when King David, Israel's greatest king, founded the dynasty that ruled Judah for much of its history, making Jerusalem the capital of the United Kingdom of Israel during his reign and that of his son, King Solomon. Most importantly, it was the location of the First and Second Temples, where offerings were made to God and where His presence dwelt in the Holy of Holies and was manifested in a number of miracles (Mishna, Avos ch.5). Jerusalem is called the holy city by the prophets (Isaiah 52:1). It was where Jews would go three times a year to celebrate the holiest festivals (Deuteronomy ch.16). Even after the destruction of the Temple, the Temple Mount and adjacent Western ("Wailing") Wall, which still stands, is the holiest site in Judaism. It is hoped and prophesied (Ezekiel ch.40-44) that one day a third temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem and that the Messiah will come to it.
  • 2) As a result of the historical connection between the Jewish people and Jerusalem, it was seen as an intrinsically holy city and a place where God's presence rested. Jerusalem has become representative of the connection with the Divine. In addition, Jerusalem is seen as the source of Divine Law, as demonstrated in many Jewish prayers: "Ki miTziyon tetze Torah udvar Hashem maYerushalayim - From Zion comes the Torah and the Word of God from Jerusalem"; Isaiah 2:3. Jerusalem is also representative of the Redemption of the Jewish people from their physical and spiritual exile, because this exile causes the melancholy that the Jewish people experience by being apart from God's presence. The Redemption, which Jews believe will be brought by the Messiah, will result in the Jewish people returning to Jerusalem.
  • 3) According to ancient Hebrew tradition, Jerusalem is the site where God took the very earth from which Adam, the first man, was formed. Read Genesis carefully; Adam was not created in the garden of Eden; he was TAKEN there. Jerusalem, because it is the first place on Earth where the spirit of God dwelt, is considered sacred, and a direct link to God.
  • 4) Judaism is the oldest monotheistic religion and Jerusalem has been its only holy site for 3000 years, ever since King Solomon built the first Jewish Temple there. The temple was destroyed by invading Babylonians and rebuilt at the same site (known as the Temple Mount) about 2500 years ago. It was then destroyed again when the Romans conquered Judea about 2000 yrs ago, killing a million Jews, expelling another million and enslaving the remaining million. All Jews who value their heritage feel ties to the holy land, where so many of their people struggled for the freedom to practice Judaism. At the same time, Jews believe that all people should be welcome there, regardless of faith.
  • 5) Jerusalem is the eternal Jewish city, and a symbol of a future time of peace. Jerusalem is also the focal point of prayer of the Jews. When they pray, wherever they are, they face towards Jerusalem (Talmud, Berakhot 30a), with love and longing. The sentiment is aptly expressed in Psalm 137: "By the waters of Babylon, there we sat and wept as we remembered Zion...." It continues to say: "If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its wisdom." For thousands of years we remembered our exile and prayed for its end. Now at least we can do so from "up close."

What is the Dome of the rock and what Muslims lands are associated with it?

The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine built over the "Noble Sanctuary", which is where Muslims believed Muhammad ascended to heaven for one night to meet with the previous prophets of God. The "Noble Sanctuary" is the same place that Jews and Christians call the "Temple Mount" or "Foundation Stone" since it was the center of the Israelite Great Temple in Jerusalem prior to 70 C.E.

The "Muslim Lands" associated with the Dome of the Rock are typically labeled as "the Palestinian Territories" and include the Old City of Jerusalem, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank. However, the Old City of Jerusalem and East Jerusalem have been been annexed to Israel and ruled jointly with de jure Israeli West Jerusalem as United Jerusalem.

Jews step alreay try to break the mosque in Jerusalem to build Jews temple?

Answer 1Islam and mosques did not exist until a thousand years after the building of the temple in Jerusalen\m.

Answer 2

The badly spelled statement seems to be saying "Jews are already taking steps to try to break the [Al Aqsa] mosque in Jerusalem to build the Jews' Temple." This is a common canard used by Muslims to prevent perfectly safe archaeological studies in the Old City of Jerusalem. The Israeli government has no intent of destabilizing the Temple Mount nor has there been any proposal made in any Israeli agency to that affect. There would be no logical reason for Israel to destabilize the Temple Mount from below to get rid of Al-Aqsa Mosque and replace it. If Al-Aqsa were destroyed by this means, the much larger Third Temple would certainly be incapable of being built on such a shaky foundation. If the Israelis intended to remove Al-Aqsa, simple demolition would be much more likely, since that is exactly how Israelis created the Western Wall plaza (blowing up an entire Old City section).

The reason Muslims like to bring this up is to prevent archaeological excavations. This is because many Islamic politicians believe that Israel's legitimacy rests on it being a historical continuation of the Biblical Jewish States. If they can effectively prevent the continued excavation of Jewish artifacts which show a historic Jewish connection to the land, they can more freely issue false statements (such as when the Islamic Waqf claimed that Jews had no historical connection to the Western Wall) without evidence to rebut them. This desire to distort history cannot be justified on its face, so they prefer to say that Israel is taking adverse actions to the Temple Mount.

What kind of virus is The Jerusalem virus?

Jerusalemis a DOS virus first detected in Jerusalem, in October 1987. On infection, the Jerusalem virus becomes memory resident (using 2kb of memory), and then infects every executable file run, except for COMMAND.COM. .COM files grow by 1,813 bytes when infected by Jerusalem and are not re-infected. .EXE files grow by 1,808 to 1,823 bytes each time they are infected. The virus re-infects .EXE files each time the files are loaded until they are too large to load into memory. Some .EXE files are infected but do not grow because several overlays follow the genuine .EXE file in the same file. Sometimes .EXE files are incorrectly infected, causing the program to fail to run as soon as it is executed.

Following the Unification of Jerusalem in the Six Day War, Israel considers the whole of Jerusalem to be its capital.

Is Jerusalem in Israel?

This is a very contentious issue. West Jerusalem is unquestionably in Israel, but for the entire city, there is more debate.

Legal Status (De Jure)

In 1949, the armistice lines between Israel and Jordan divided the city of Jerusalem into West Jerusalem (which was held by Israelis) and East Jerusalem, including the Old City (which was held by the Jordanians. In 1967, via the Six-Day War, Israel reunited the city of Israel under its control. However, according to UNSC Resolution 242, Israel must withdraw from territories occupied in the Six-Day War in return for a peace treaty with its neighbors. In 1994, Jordan, which was the country that had a legal right to Jerusalem, ceded that right to the Palestinian Authority and signed a peace treaty with Israel. As a result, Jerusalem contains both de jure Israeli territory (West Jerusalem) and the de jure non-Israeli territory (East Jerusalem) which is owed, theoretically, to the Palestinian State.

Current Status (De Facto)

Since 1967, Israel has controlled both West and East Jerusalem and in 1980 passed the "Jerusalem Law", which set up a unified municipal boundary for Jerusalem and annexed (illegally according to international law) East Jerusalem to Israel proper.

Who was the first bishop of Jerusalem?

St. James the Younger

Answer 2.

St James son of Zebedee.

Zebedee is transliterated into Theuda, the Greek for Zebedee. Zebedee and Theuda both mean gift of God. The Bishop of Jerusalem is recorded as the son of Theuda and Mary, in the Apocalypse of James.

It is non-compliant with Holy Scripture to designate James the Less as Bishop of Jerusalem. The New Testament records that the three most saintly of the Twelve Disciples were Peter, James and John, John and James being the sons of Zebedee.

Peter was sent to found the Church in Rome, John to found the Church in Ephesus, and James son of Zebedee remained in Jerusalem to administer the Church and vicinity there.

In his capacity of being alike in character and appearance to Jesus Christ, he was known as James the Just and the Lord's Brother, and also the Bulwark - ref. The Second Epistle of Ignatius to John.

The evidence is incontrovertible when the accounts as written, are acknowledged as being in concordance with Holy Scripture.

To discount these following records you will be non-compliant with Holy Scripture.

References:

1. Jesus Christ selects Peter, James and John as his inner circle of three, who being strongest of the Twelve, are taught the deeper meaning of his teachings, necessary for his leaders in the founding of Christianity. - New Testament.

2.James son of Zebedee is the most saintly of the two named James of the Twelve, and therefore James written without an appellation refers to him, giving continuity throughout the New Testament and Holy Scripture.

3.James son of Zebedee (Theuda), is accounted as James the Just, the Bulwark, and one of the Twelve Disciples, and is designated as a spiritual brother (the Lord's Brother) and not a brother by kin, - as per Jesus Christ, Apocalypse and Apocryphon of James.

4.James, the Bishop of Jerusalem, with the surname of the Lord's brother, is designated as James son of Zebedee, one of the sons of thunder, - as per the Virgin Mary and accounts contained within her Assumption Gospels such as The History of the Blessed Virgin Mary, E. A. Wallis Budge.

5.James brother of John is accounted as having been already dead at her Assumption, and so in accordance with Acts 12:2. James the Less is placed as a brother by mother to John, - John 19:27, Mark 6:3; History of the Virgin Mary, W. Wright.

What is a holy place for Muslims and Jews?
