"Norðrvegr" over time changed to "Norge" or "Noreg" because of the natural change in the language. So basically Norway got it´s name because it means "way to the north"

By adapting to the cold winters by making thick clothes out of warm materials like fur and/or wool. Also spending the summers making solid, well isolated homes and collecting lots of firewood to sustain the winter. Materials/food they didn't have enough of, they obtained from other places and peoples.
