How much does it cost to repair the timing belt in a 2000 acura TL?

"REPAIR" the TIMING BELT? or DID YOU MEAN "REPLACE"? I'll presume you meant "REPLACE" (which is recommended at and every 105,000 miles) (NOTE* some people under harsh driving conditions *extremely high and/or low temps., aggressive start and stop driving etc. may do it every 60K miles to be safe but probably 98% of drivers are fine with the 105K mile reccomendation) Bottom line 1st; then details: The total cost to Replace your timing belt and NOTHING ELSE (*BAD IDEA SEE BELOW) should be about $40.00 for an OEM Timing Belt and probably at least 4+ Hours Labor so timing belt replacement alone with labor should run you about $300 **NOW this is a very Labor intensive Job and this TL has an 'interference engine' (let the mechanic worry about that) and the belt also drives your *WATER PUMP **WHICH SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE REPLACED ALSO WHEN THE TIMING BELT IS. (**as well as obviously having the Honda Genuine Type 2 COOLANT -Flushed and replaced) It takes so much to get in there in the 1st place it is foolish not to have them do the Water Pump also! Why? Because those wear out too, and if your water pump goes so goes your car! No coolant if your old pump fails, shortly after guess what *NO More ENGINE!! Or at least many $thousands to rebuild or replace. An Oem water pump should run you a little over $100.00 OTHER SUGGESTIONS: -Replace the drive belts too: (1.Serpentine Belt (oem about $20 and 2. Power steering Belt (oem about $15) This is not very (PARTS OR LABOR) expensive relatively speaking and same concept as the water pump above. -There are 2 main oil seals in your enging 1. Rear MAIN Seal (*FORGET ABOUT THAT ONE IT IS ON THE TRANNY SIDE AND NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE) *BUT 2. THE Front MAIN Seal is accessible when doing the timing belt and is a good safety measure cause if you ever have engine oil leak in the future odds are it will be from one of these 2 seals which can eventually wear over time like everyting else. (OEM Front main Seal about $8.00) SOME PEOPLE GO FURTHER, but unless something else wrong is specifically pointed out to you, or your mechanic feels strongly about something else in the process and explains and conveys that conviction to you (i.e bad thermostat, timing belt tensioner?, bearings in the pulleys? worn radiator cap, soft or brittle hoses/leaks etc. or ???? etc. this should do it!) Total cost for all of the recommended above at a reasonable mechanic: (PARTS OEM about $225 and Labor about $400-425 TOTAL for all that should be done an Most if not all would consider *NECESSARY along with the timing belt = $about $625-$650 TOTAL FOR ALL PARTS BELTS FLUIDS AND LABOR. *BEST OF LUCK AND LET ME KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUR OR IF ANYONE HAS FURTHER INPUT HERE? Regards, Jev6000

How do you change front brake pads on a 1996 Acura 3.2 TL?

first remove both the caliper bolts holding the caliper to the cage bracket. Once removed, pull of the brake caliper and remove the brake pads. Lubricate "with special grease" all contact points the pad with contact. INSTALL new pads. Next you will need to depress the brake piston to set the caliper back into place. There are special tools used to do this but mainly mechanics only have them. in this case a basic c-clamp tool from your local hardwear store will do. use the old brake pad as a flat service to push the caliper back into its rest position SLOWLY!!! if you do it fast you can pop out the piston. Once it is retracted put the caliper back on along w/ the two bolts, tighten them up, SET THE PEDAL BEFORE DRIVING! do this by gently pushing the brake pedal to the floor about 10 times (NOT ALL THE WAY, ONLY ABOUT HALF WAY) then your done

How do change a thermostat on 1997 Acura TL 3.2?

I just changed a t-stat in a 96 last night. The location is in an "abnormal" location from normal domestic cars. The t-stat is at the engine block end of the lower radiator house. Follow it from the radiator up to the engine block. The one on my daughters car the housing and the T-stat is located behind the throttle bottom. If you are not some what mechanically inclined stop reading this right now and head to a mechanic. If you choose to replace it yourself you have to remove the all covers (your intake and throttle cable cover). You will also have to remove any vaccum houses that are atteched to the air intake and throttle body assymbly. You'll have to remove your air intake house and the "sleeve" that is atteched to the air intake hose and the throttle body air intake opening. You'll also have to remove the cables from the flap control (engage them by pulling back the sprung rocker and removing the cable head through the slot that locks it into the rocker lever). Once both cables have been removed you'll have to remove the cable plate from the throttle body. Now you'll have to remove the throttle body itself from the intake. That is done by removing the four bolts securing it. (If you do not have a torque rench, borrow one and get the specs from your local automotive store). There is a gasket that needs to be replaced between the throttle body and the intake. Once that is all out of the way you'll see the T-stat covering, remove it and expose your therostat. When you remove the T-stat pay attention to the position of the T-stat. Put the O ring on the new T-stat and reverse above prossess in order to properly rebuild the throttle assembly. Be sure to regasket the throttle body and torque the four bolts to specs, also make sure you tighten in a cross pattern to prevent any warping or carcking. Cd player in 1997 acura tl displays error and wont play can this be fixed?

Try another CD, if you still get the same error it would be cheaper to just replace the CD player rather than have it fixed

The conventional wisdom is that these CD players weren't built to last, which seems a bit odd, considering that the rest of the radio seems to last forever. Never seen a unit of this vintage (including my own) that plays CD's.

A word to the wise: if you enjoy listening to the radio and intend to use the factory antenna, be very careful about which aftermarket radio you buy -- the antenna is extremely low-gain, and needs to be coupled to a radio with a really good RF amplifier. Try to either road-test friends' radios for reception ability, or pick the radio in the store display that tunes in clearest. I picked a really nice Clarion only to discover after it was installed that it had poor RF gain. On flat land in nice weather and without moving, I can often pick up FM stereo.

Caveat emptor... I just listen to my MP3's, and live without FM. The unit's great otherwise.

What size wiper blades fit on a 2009 Acura TL?

The 2009 Acura TL takes 26" drivers and 19" passenger side wiper blades. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only. Be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.
