It is if you're in a local where cell phones are stolen very quickly. By putting a password on your SIM card you in a small way, get the last laugh. If someone were to steal your phone they would have to initially crack the password that is set on your actual phone, then they would have to crack your SIM card password. It is a lot harder than is seen on the movies. As well, if you are a person that keeps all your contacts information on your SIM card, then they are also safe. Without the correct password, the SIM card will 'fry' and will only unlock when the PUK code is entered. Depending on the provider, they will or will not give you this code. Be sure to set a code that you will NOT forget because providers will not necessarily help you. But back to the theft thing- if your phone were to get stolen, the thief can't use your phone without those codes. In other words, they went through all that effort for absolutely nothing. So even though it sucks that you no longer have your phone, you can still chuckle that the thief is going to work hard to get a benefit.

Well have you ever tried to place a small tape recorder in his car, one that only starts recording when someone starts talking? You could place it under the seat of car. The most likely cause is due to the number in question being "ported" from one carrier to another (to keep your phone number). The original carrier may not fully transition the line although most functions appear to work.

This recently happened to me when we ported 5 lines from Verizon to AT&T. I have heard of this issue many times so hope this can help. In my case 4 of the 5 lines worked in all aspects, a single line worked for all phone calls, all outgoing text messages and all incoming text messages except from when the incoming text originated from a Verizon customer. Upon calling Verizon (about another issue) they confirmed that the line was not "suspended". Apparently when a number is ported the original carrier suspends the line until the end of the billing cycle. In this case, this single line was not suspended (although the rest were). Within an hour of placing the line in question in a "suspended" state text messages from a Verizon sender to the line (on AT&T) worked as expected.

Verizon support did not believe this would cause any issues however it appears we obviously proved otherwise, that or it was some very very strange timing.
