Back Neck and Spinal Pain

Spinal pain and neck pain are commonly experienced. These can be a result of muscle strain or infection, which eventually heal with time. However, prolonged pain may be an indication of a serious health problem.

What is best pain medicine for severe back pain?

It depends on the severity of the pain, whether it's acute (short term) or chronic (persistent and long term), and the long term prognosis and treatment. However, realistically the best treatment is prevention and lifestyle change. If you're past that point, the the following meds will help.

For severe pain that has no real chance of getting better, Fentanyl patches are the treatment of choice, but it is not to be considered lightly.

Under that, OxyContin is the best, though its effectiveness decreases over time as users become more dependent and tolerant.

Percocet is the next really effective drug, though it's an acute pain med rather than a chronic pain med.

Ideally, you want a combination of OTC meds or prescription NSAID's and muscle relaxers in addition to pain meds for severe back pain. For example, my personal favorites are:

Napoxen (prescription strength, 500mg). Also available OTC as Aleve.

Tylenol ES Rapid Rapid Release Gel Caps

Bayer Back and Body Aspirin

Flexeril - fantastic muscle relaxer

Fiorinal w/ Codeine - even though I use it for migraines, the barbiturate in it effectively relaxes everything to give pretty good pain relief.

Note that continued use of Naproxen and other NSAIDS over the long term can cause ulcers, especially if you're using aspirin along with it.

What is Sanskrit word for health?

swastha is the word i think.

or ayusha word also.

swastha means composed or swAsthyam a state of composure. The sentence "swastho bhava" would be well translated as "Be assured" or "Rest assured" swastha is healthy and hence swAsthya is health in Hindi, The word that is used in Sanskrit is Arogyam or lit. 'freedom from disease'. sarve santu nirAmayAH... May all be free from disease (= May all be healthy).

Let's look at the English word Health an abstract noun that would be formed out of the verb heal(= free of any afflictions!).Someone who is unwell could only be healed. Thus the Sanskrit Language as also English in a way would consider that being in a state of affliction is more "natural" hence the absence of disease is health!

AyusShyam = long life! Long life is obviously possible only if one is healthy. The life of suffering is no life. Medically we are nearer truth when we see that we are always at the mercy of the tiniest microbe!

Why do you have pain in your lower back after alcohol?

If the back pain presents the next day after drinking it is probably caused by muscle and nerve irritation which results from depletion of certain B vitamins as a result of drinking. You should try taking several times the RDA of the following vitamins: Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, B6 and Pantothenic acid. These vitamins will also reduce hangover symptoms if taken before drinking.

It could also be your kidneys since they are located there, also. Avoid drinking, visit your doctor with the symptoms.

What is the difference between butalbital and hydrocodone?

It's a pain killer and cough suppressant used in medications like Vicodin.

"Hydrocodone" is a "semi-synthetic" or partially man-made opiod analgesic (pain killer) and antitussive (cough suppressant) made from codeine and thebaine.

"Bitartrate" is a salt of tartaric acid. Tartaric acid is a muscle toxin but in medications that include Hydrocodone Bitartrate, it is used to alter the water-solubility of Hydrocodone to make it more readily absorbed b the body. Hydrocodone Bitartrate is the generic name/active ingredient (alongside acetaminophen) in Vicodin, Vicodin ES, Lortab, and Norco. It is a mild to moderate pain reliever and is a Schedule III drug in the United States. It is only available with a prescription from a doctor.

AnswerIbuprofen is good for back pain like removing batteries is good for quieting a fire alarm. If all your doing is numbing the pain, your just avoiding the actual cause of the problem. When the check engine light of your car goes on, you can either cover it with electrical tape or take it to a mechanic. Try a chiropractor. They are professionals who can enguage the cause of your problem, not just cover it up. AnswerI have had back pain for over half my life, for about 14-16 years is what my mother has told me. Point being, I was told by a doctor that after taking so many doses of IB Profin it acts not only as a pain reliever but also as an anti-anflamitory. Basically I would take 1 dose (2 pills) with each meal and then 1 dose before bedtime. It helped a lot. Dollar tree and thrift store brands have the same ingredients and will do the same thing as name brand, so don't think just because it's more expensive it'll work better. Hope this helps.

this is no joke!!!hi my name is Tina i have had terrible pains when my period comes around, weak knees, back pains, feeling cold, vomiting, nausea im so glad i discovered ibruprofen it works like a dream i don't feel a thing idont even realize, i get no allergic reation which is great, cuz i`m allergic to most things

What pain relief is there after radical neck dissection?

I had a radical neck disection on May 22nd 2008. I have chronic pain in my shoulder and arm - and sick of taking the narcotic pain medication.

My surgeon didnt seem to believe that i could or should have any pain after this surgury - he is of no help in this area at all.

My primary care Dr. suggested I begin taking LYRICA - I've been taking 50mg 3x a day for about 2 weeks now and it does seem to help. I do still find days that i feel I need something else like advil and that seems to help in addition to the lyrica. However LYRICA takes a while to perform the full benefits - weeks sometimes as I've read. So maybe there is hope!

Lyrica does help but doesnt completely relieve the pain- and after all of the research I have done looking for an answer to the relief of the chronic pain in my shoulder - I would do anything to have just one pain free day.............

What are some natural remedies for back pain?

  • It depends on what kind of pain--for instance: arnica for muscles and trauma, ginger for inflammation, oregano for infection, lecithin for sciatica, etc. You would need to be more specific about the pain for a more specific answers.
  • There are number of natural supplements which are extremely effective at relieving pain naturally. You can find these at your local health food stores or online.
  • In my experience, a TENS machine (you can buy them for home use and and they are about the size of a mobile 'phone) can provide effective natural pain relief for some people. Of course first check with you own physician/general practitioner to ascertain the cause of the pain.

What is the cause of pain near right hip at back and pain down fronts of both thighs?

it is caused by blood being trapped for more then 2 seconds this is what causes the pain in your inner thigh.

It is most likely a cramp of the muscle. These seem to happen more frequently as we age.

The best thing to do is to stretch that muscle as far as you can by placing the inside of the foot on the affected leg flat on the floor and squatting with the other leg and hold it there for about 30 seconds. It should feel better in a few seconds.

You must hold that position for awhile or it will come right back.

Often oddly, punching the location of the pain helps. Also vigorous rubbing or massaging.

Pain killers are useless because the cramp will subside on it's own in a few agonizing minutes.

How to stop leg cramps?

  • try some potassium , mustard, bananas
  • If you are an adult and are referring to 'restless leg syndrome' - the latest studies indicate that this entity may reflect that the individual is low in Mg (magnessium), complex vitamin B, and Zn (zinc).
  • In the longer term, ensuring you have sufficient levels of magnesium (and calcium) helps to prevent them. For relief at the time, get someone to pull your toes up toward you while keeping your leg outstretched which will stretch the muscle.
  • Latest research being taught at uni is that it's dehydration - not lack of salt - so make sure you're getting 1 litre of water per 10 kilos that you weigh a day.

Try eating lots of bananas. They are high in potassium which is a natural cramp reliever. Most cramps are contributed by the unresting of muscles which leads to them spazing out. in consequence creating an un-ordianry pain sensation that his hard to get rid of. To get rid of foot cramps immediately try putting all of your weight on the effected foot and bob up and down. this usually relaxes the muscles.

Why does my lower back pop without pain?

Your lower back may pop without pain if you have air in your spine. No pain is a good sign and it just means your back needed to pop.

Is chronic neck pain a symptom of a serious condition?

Well chronic neck pain can be a symptom of various conditions ranging from minor muscle strains to more serious issues like herniated discs or spinal cord compression. So it's always better to consult with a medical professional and get it checked out rather than just assuming it's nothing serious. Don't let your neck pain become a pain in the neck!

How do you give a massage for lower back pain?

The best type of massage for the lower back (and every other part of your body for that matter) is a Shiatsu massage. The technique isn't that hard to learn, but it takes someone with strong fingers and hands that can massage the tissue deep enough to get effective relief.

I've added link to one of the many YouTube vids on Shiatsu. If you can find a local practitioner, that's a better option, as there's only so much you can get from a video. It's better if you've go someone qualified to either do it for you, or train you how to do it.

My husband has Left back pain and left testicle pain what could this be?

2nd Answer:

Pain in those areas is common to a kidney stone "attack". It is also common to some very bad conditions which, if they persist for more than a day or two, should be looked at by a doctor.

What is a paracentral extruded disc and a free fragment?

This term, "paracentral extruded disc and a free fragment" refers to the condition of a spinal disc, so this is actually a diagnosis of what a doctor found after examining a patient's spine with an MRI or CT scan. The level of the spine is not identified, so there is no way to know if this problem possibly exists in the neck (cervical spine), not very likely in mid-back (thoracic spine) region where this problem is rare, or most likely in the low back (lumbar spine) because this is where most disc extrusions occur in the lumbar or low back area.

It is easy to understand the whole picture of what happened once the individual terms are explained:

  • Paracentral - this term refers to a part of the disc near the center of the spine, close to the spinal cord and spinal nerves, as opposed to outer ridge of disc that would be closer only to the spinal nerves
  • Extruded - this term means that not only has the disc been injured and torn, but inner jelly-like material of the disc (nucleus pulposus) has leaked out into the surrounding area and has left the confines of the disc
  • Free fragment - this means that when the disc tissue ruptured the rupture was so severe or extensive that pieces or portions of disc tissue broke off and are now moving about as separate pieces; this increases the degree of symptoms and complicates surgical correction of problem

In this case it could easily happen that the individual would experience at the level of the disc extrusion: extensive local pain, muscle weakness, numbness, tingling, radiating pain along the nerve, and more depending where the injury exists.

What is the cause of fasciculation all over your body and cramps in calves and left hand also swallowing problems and lower back pain?

You will probably get a different answer from a physician (which means see your doctor), but practical advice from a fellow female is this...take your vitamins! I have found that the cramps, swallowing issues and lower back pain are directly related to my nutrition. A good multivitamin plus an extra tablet of B complex are helpful. The B vitamins are water soluble and non toxic, so if your body does not need them they flush out harmlessly. Be careful to take them as a complex as they all work together and one in solo will make a certain B deficiency worse. Since there are over 12 B vitamins identified, just taking one as a "cure" is not a good idea. It is a fact that we as women have notoriously poor nutrition so it might be a wise idea to combine a balanced meal replacement bar or shake with your daily calorie consumption. After all, health of the body depends on nutritional intake. Another good idea is to increase your water intake. Surprisingly, women traditonally do not drink enough water because of bloating. This means that many women are slightly dehydrated most of the time which can lead to cramps! Make it a point to drink a couple of bottles of water in addition to your other beverage consumption. If you have bloat problems initially, they will disappear in a couple of days as your body adjusts to the new reality. Finally, make a conscious effort to have some "me" time every day. We as women have this need to take care of everyone at the expense of our own health. Stress can produce some very strange reactions in the body, so "take care of your child's mother" as the famous Dr. Phil says. A sit down bath can work wonders for your sanity, your stress levels, and your self esteem! Try lavender bath salts as an additive to the bath water. The shower gets you clean, but the sit down bath clears your soul. By all means see your doctor, but in the mean time these are simple safe suggestions to help alieviate the problems. And know that there are other ladies in the same boat...I'm one of them.

What does it mean if i have my period for 8 days and back pain?

First of all, if you have you're period for more than seven days, something might be a little wrong. So if i were you, i might just go check with your GP because they'll be able to tell you whats happening. I've also heard, its nothing to worry about if you get back pain, because its to do with your period and period pains. But go check that out with your GP too!

Hope this helped :) xo

Can the types of pillows you sleep on cause neck pain?

Yes, If something is not giving you adequate support it can shift the spine creating nerve pressure and pain.Often people sleep with something to big under their neck or something too thin. Both of these create poor neck posture and alignment. This manifests itself into tight neck muscles and neck pain.

When you turn on your side with something tooo big or too small your head will be tilted up or down. This puts alot of strain on the neck muscles and often you may finfd you awake with a stiff neck.

What you want to get is something called a "support pillow" or "neck Pillow".

Which compact car has the best seat height for someone with lower back problems?

Chris, my hammies are also flexibility-impaired, to they point where my 2000 Accord feels like the seat surface is two inches off the floor and the pedals are tucked under the dash somewhere, so I've been looking for a comfier car, preferably smaller (in addition to getting into better stretching habits). I have had no luck finding this "floor to seat height" nor cabin "floor to ceiling" height information on the internet, it doesn't seem to be a thing that EPA requires ratings on nor that car reviewers regularly notice. So I've had to do my own testing. Observations: The European cars often have great seats but I'm not inclined in that direction. Check out the VW Rabbit and similarly sized cars. Volvo too has some amazing seats, at least in some of its cars. The '07 and up Hyundai Elantra has a roomy cabin and a height-adjustable seat. My favorite is the current generation Scion xB. While it's predecessor was a noisy, thrifty (small engined) little thing with loads of headroom, the new one is related only in name and general shape. Think of it as the cross-over version of the Camry. It has height-adjustable seats and even more headroom than the Elantra. Side note: the Rabbit, Elantra, and xB are also very quiet, in terms of their tested sound levels when cruising at 70mph. So is the new Civic (non-EX, non-Si models), but I have not evaluated it's seat. I hope that this helps someone! Lon in Atl == == I asked the question, I just wanted to add that when I sit low and my legs are out in front of me, my hamstrings seem to pull on my lower back and after about an hour or two, I feel pain down my legs and they start to go numb. I currently drive a full sized dodge ram where I sit upright with my legs at about a 45 degree angle at the knees. The truck seats don't irritate my back. I'm 6'2" and would like to buy a smaller car (gas prices!). Thanks Chris
