Is neck pain a symptom of hiv?

What causes upper back tension?
If you are experiencing upper back pain it may likely be caused by a muscle imbalance. Muscle imbalances are the source of many types of muscle pain. This is typically a result of doing work involving the opposing muscle groups such as the so called "mirror" muscles without working out the antagonist muscles enough or none at all. If you are doing a lot of bench presses or push-ups but do little pull ups or lat pull downs and rowing movements you can develop upper back pain. The solution is to start doing those other exercises. I would also do some shrugs and reverse flys to work the traps and rotator cuffs as well since these are probably out of balance too. Be sure to warm up and stretch regularly as well.
Secondly, improving posture is important. An improvement in posture usually results from a balanced physical workout regimen. Maintaining correct posture on a daily basis is very important to allow your spine to maintain proper alignment reducing compression on your disks and nerves and allow healing. If upper back pain is do to nerve compression of the upper spine it is typically because of stooping or hunching forward. Again, a well balanced workout will promote proper posture over time.

What if you have Back pain while inserting a tampon?
There can be a few reasons for pain during tampon insertion:
Not necessarily. I am 40 weeks and 6 days and have just returned from hospital for obs. I had the same symptoms and was in a LOT of pain. This is my second baby and I just wasn't quite sure if I was in labour or not because I wasn't having the classic contractions. Turns out I probably had a urinary tract infection and was very dehydrated. My advice would be to go to hospital to have urine test and baby monitored, the hospital staff were great with me and they gave me some sleeping pills and let me stay the night as the pain had kept me up for 2 nights. Get it checked out.

What is central disc bulge in L4-L5 and L5-S1?
A bulging disc is a condition that occurs when there is a tear in the outer ring of one of your intervertebral discs, causing the soft portion to bulge out and out of place. If you have a bulging disc, you should definitely get it checked out asap in case it gets worse. If you start feeling pain from bulging discs, I would suggest trying to use some natural methods to relieve the pain - I found some great methods that helped with my back pain - see related links.
How long does it normally take to get the results of a paternity test?
This depends on the laboratory performing the paternity testing. I work for Identigene DNA testing center, and our turn around time is 2-3 business days once the samples arrive at the laboratory. This is close to industry standard.
How long does it take till your bone in your neck heals?
The younger you are when you break your clavicle, the less time it takes for the fracture to heal. Children will heal a broken bone in 3 to 4 weeks, teenagers will need 6 to 8 weeks before the broken clavicle completely heals, and adults may take up to four months.

Could Back pains at 37 weeks pregnant mean anything?
The baby is putting pressure on nerves within your spine. After you have delivered, I would suggest you have a Chiropractor make adjustments. Since the weight from carrying a baby for 9 months does put alot of strain on your back.
What pain meds are available for people who have chronic pain and addiction?
Unfortunately for those who have history of addiction, access to pain meds is difficult, unless there is conclusive evidence for the reason causing the pain. For example, I've had 3 spinal fusions, and my underlying disease is enough proof that my pain is real. But addictive behavior in the past is a red flag for doctors, and most are unwilling to prescribe pain meds to anyone with such problems, be it narcotics, alcohol, etc. Nicotine is different though, but don't ask me why.
In such cases, as I said the reason for the pain must be conclusive (injury, disease, etc.), and finding a pain doctor won't be easy. Keeping a Pain Diary is also a must - real pain can't easily be faked, and any good doctor will be able to tell if an addict is BS'ing or not.
It comes down to a trust and legal issue for pain doctors. They are under tremendous pressure from Federal regulations to both help people and keep controlled substances away from those who have been abusers, and they're not easily willing to put themselves at risk without concrete reasons. Even hospitals are extremely conservative with pain meds and those who are known addicts.
It's important to understand the difference between dependence and addiction also. Those of us who are opiate dependent have a valid, medical need for our meds. Addiction is defined by its mental component - the addict uses a substance to escape from life or social situations they don't want to face, not for any real medical need (avoiding withdrawals doesn't count).
What causes leftsided shoulder and front left neck pain after eating?
I don't like the sounds of that...! Do you get it if you do something strenuous? Have shortness of breath, and break out in a sweat with it? If so, this sounds like heart-pain, otherwise known as angina. If you get it only with eating, I'm not really sure what it could be. Nerves that go to the diaphragm (just below the lungs and on top of the stomach) and have branches that go to the shoulder, and irritation of the left diaphragm will cause left shoulder pain, and maybe left neck pain. If you were a member of my family, I'd want you to see your doctor/PA/NP and get checked out...
What is the cause of pain on your lower right side of your back?
Pain in the "tailbone", otherwise known as coccydynia ["pain in the tailbone"]reflects an inflammation of the coccyx. Can be a fracture if the patient fell on the tailbone. Can be seen in hard deliveries especially when the baby is quite large... Treated by anti-inflammatory meds, ice, heat, and occasionally by steroid injections. If the pain is severe and unrelenting, and no cure can be found, surgical removal of the coccyx is accomplished.
Why would a cough set off lower back pain?
Bad coughing is a very muscle-intensive action. The pressure of the cough reflex compressing one side of the body can overextend (i.e. micro-tear) the opposite side, which then may sieze up to try to maintain its integrity. The above is true, but to put it in more simple terms a bad cough can also cause sore stomach muscles and ribs, so see your doctor and get a cough medicine to stop the deep coughing. You also need chest/lung x-rays to find out why you are coughing so much.
What could cause a fatty hump on the back of your lower neck where your head joins the upper spine?
This fatty hump on the back of your lower neck could be a "Protease Paunch" or it could be caused by Cushing's Syndrome:
Too much cortisol can produce some of the hallmark signs and symptoms of Cushing's syndrome a fatty hump between your shoulders, a rounded face, and pink or purple stretch marks (striations) on your skin. It can also result in high blood pressure, bone loss and, on occasion, diabetes.
Other Common Causes are:
Is this something that only women get? I'd be interested to know how much being over weight has to do with having the hump. I do think it must be related, eventhough one doesn't have to be obese to have it.
I am a 28 year old male who has had the hump since I was 17. I went to doctors about it, but they said it wasn't bad enough to do surgery on, and suggested that physical therapy might help it slightly. Anyway, I have been skinny (6'2'' 160 lbs) and obese (315 lbs at my highest), and the condition is getting progressively worse as I get older, no matter how much weight I lose. So, I think it has very little to do with weight and everything to do with a bad spin of the genetic wheel of fortune :(.
I had a lump at the base of my neck where it joins the spine. It was a lipoma which is a benign fatty tumor. It gradually got larger over a number of years. I developed another over my left shoulder blade - it grew more quickly than the other, to about the size of a large fist on the outside. I had them both removed surgically. As I said, they were both benign as the doctors had assured me they probably would be. But, the only way to be sure is to have tissue looked at by a pathologists. I am doing great and have not had another at this point but people who have these do have a tendancy to develop them again.
I am 28 and 6'4". Because of my height and inactivity I have had bad posture for most of my life. I have spent alot of time in slumped over desks/staring at computers. And for to long I drank way to much coffee/soda and not nearly enough water. All this led to chronic back pain, stiffness, the development of a hump starting at the base of my neck, and periodically throughing out my back.
I decided that I did not want to be in pain all my life that this had to change. I started working out constantly, seeing doctors, therapists, chiropractors, etc... figuring that I am to young to be feeling this crappy.
After several months of hitting the gym seeing doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, etc... all with little success, someone suggested rolfing. I had never heard of it but figured that I would give it a try. I googled rolfer in my area, picked one and went.
After about 10 sessions I am not in constant pain, I can hold myself in good posture easily and unconciously, I am more flexiible than I have ever been, generally I feel better than I can remember....and the hump has stopped gone away.
Basically, rolfing is a practice of massage that target the tissue that surrounds muscles. this tissue is very fiberous and strong and is supposed to encase your muscles individually. When you become inatimate and dehydrated, this tissue sticks to stuff causing your muscles to act as a group rather than individuals; you become stiff, lack range of motion. If you have bad posture to begin with (due to height, large breasts, occupation, etc...) you get stuck in that bad posture position and the posture only gets worse.
See a doctor! This could be an "upper thoracic hump", which is caused by Forward Head Posture. Dowager's Hump typically occurs in older women and affects the area around the shoulder blades. Upper Thoracic Hump is in the area where the neck meets the upper back. The area gets covered by a fatty deposit, which exacerbates the look of the hump.
It might be Scheuermann's syndrome.
You might want to go to the doctor to make sure it is nothing serious. But if it's just a hump on the back of your neck, you can most likely correct it. My father had a hump awhile ago but he started going to the chiropractor and I think the key thing is he started doing a lot of yoga. After a year or two it just went away.
I have had my hump since I was a very small child. I was told it was fatty tissue from the body cushioning itself from all of the falling I used to do from weak ankles (running or walking). I am to have it removed because now it seems to be getting bigger as I gain weight and the doctor thinks that is where all of the weight is going. At 53 I think I can take a chance it won't regrow before I'm into my 70's or 80's.
I've had a hump on my upper back since I was 14. My mother also has the same thing. We both are big breasted women and I think it has something to do with it. As of the past 3 years it has started interfering with my sleep. I sleep on my stomach and it puts tremendous pressure on my head. It seams like no matter what position i sleep in its uncomfortable and I wake up every morning with my head full of pressure. I've spoken with a nutritional doctor and he said to reduce the fatty deposit I should stay away from white bread and starches. It really dose work the spine is still curved but the fatty deposit seams to have diminished a bit.
What could cause upper arm pain after having blood taken?
I don't know the answer. But I had blood work taken this morning and am having the same thing happen. I've never experienced it before but I do know that the tech put the needle pretty deep and my arm was immediately sore afterwards and the upper arm pain started about 30 minutes later. could be either the needle was too deep, or they hit one of the valves in the vein.
What is marked degenerative facet disease?
what is facet degeneration at l5 and s1 at the rigight side
It could be several things. First things first, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. It's always the best bet. Now, let's see. It could be a problem with your kidneys, they are in your lower back, how old are you...could be kidney stones, but I doubt it. Could just be lower back pain, do you do frequent or recent strenuous labor from bending over or lifting lots of weight? Also, it could be your appendix. This is a serious problem, that if left untreated for very long could be life threatening. Don't wait, seek professional medical treatment.
It can be normal for you to have pains in your abdomen ecspecially the lower one because you could be experiencing cramps which is a normal symptom of pregnancy as your baby grows and your body adjusts you may experience cramping and mild spotting during a few stages of your pregancy. Each woman varies, but I would suggest if the cramps seem really uncomfortable to consalt a health professional.
What is the meaning of 'PRN' when referring to a drug dose?
Drug dose times are indicated in Latin abbreviations, i.e., 10 mg BID (meaning twice a day), QD (meaning once a day), qhs (at 'hour (of) sleep) and so on.
PRN, on the other hand, means "as needed," usually followed by something along the lines of "Not to exceed 30 mg in 24 hours."
A more detailed explanation: The previous user is correct in that PRN means that a drug is to be taken as needed. I'll expand on that a bit.
"PRN" stands for Pro Re Nata, which is Latin literally meaning "For the thing born." In medicine, it means "As needed" or "As the situation arises". It means that using the drug is up to the caregiver or the patient as the need warrants.
For pain drugs, acute pain meds like Vicodin or Percocet are PRN-type drugs. However, it does not mean that a patient should exceed the listed daily prescribed amount or the amount listed as "Not to exceed."
Over-the-counter (OTC) meds like Tylenol and Bayer aspirin are PRN/"not to exceed"-type drugs as well. It should be noted, though, that with certain breakthrough drugs used for acute pain on a PRN basis -- such as Percocet or Percodan -- the not-to-exceed dosage extends to both the drug combination of the primary drug and any OTC drug taken as additional relief.
For example, Percocet is a combination of Tylenol and Oxycodone. My particular dosage is the strongest available, 10/325. The "10" means it contains 10mg of Oxycodone; the "325" indicates the amount of Tylenol in the drug dose. While it does come with a higher dose of Tylenol (650), since I use so much (120-150 per month for the last 8 years), I use the dose with the lower Tylenol component so as not to exceed the maximum daily dosage of Tylenol.
That extends to whether I were to take a single pill of Percocet, and an OTC dose of Tylenol as well. The not-to-exceed limit applies when adding the amount of the OTC dose and the Tylenol component in the Percocet.
Percodan is a combination of Oxycodone and Aspirin. It is prescribed less often and normally for short-term use, and not for long-term augmentation of primary chronic pain meds like Percocet is due to the amount of Aspirin a person can safely take on a daily basis.
Be aware at all times of what is contained in any PRN dosage that you are prescribed. Since, by definition, you are taking them at your discretion, you are responsible for knowing whether or not you are exceeding the maximum recommended dosage limits.
What is best pain medicine for severe back pain?
It depends on the severity of the pain, whether it's acute (short term) or chronic (persistent and long term), and the long term prognosis and treatment. However, realistically the best treatment is prevention and lifestyle change. If you're past that point, the the following meds will help.
For severe pain that has no real chance of getting better, Fentanyl patches are the treatment of choice, but it is not to be considered lightly.
Under that, OxyContin is the best, though its effectiveness decreases over time as users become more dependent and tolerant.
Percocet is the next really effective drug, though it's an acute pain med rather than a chronic pain med.
Ideally, you want a combination of OTC meds or prescription NSAID's and muscle relaxers in addition to pain meds for severe back pain. For example, my personal favorites are:
Napoxen (prescription strength, 500mg). Also available OTC as Aleve.
Tylenol ES Rapid Rapid Release Gel Caps
Bayer Back and Body Aspirin
Flexeril - fantastic muscle relaxer
Fiorinal w/ Codeine - even though I use it for migraines, the barbiturate in it effectively relaxes everything to give pretty good pain relief.
Note that continued use of Naproxen and other NSAIDS over the long term can cause ulcers, especially if you're using aspirin along with it.
