Beavers

The beaver and the capybara are the world's largest rodents. But beavers are related more closely to squirrels. Are porcupines related to beavers?

Yes, they are both rodents.

I live in Michigan where there are many beavers and porcupines, so I have a lot of experience with these creatures. As you may already know, the two species look very similar in every way: except for the tooth shape and quills of course. In fact, on one of my encounters, I saw a porcupine and a beaver mating. It was very fascinating. At this time of my life, I was very arrogant and I never had the time or will to appreciate the similarity of two animals. And I thought probably as you did, that porcupines and beavers are very different. But now, after seeing them mate and having several scientists talk to me, I now see. Beavers and porcupines are related and don't let anyone tell you different. P.S. I thought you should know that Porcupines don't have a smell to them. There were some previous questions asking about the smell of porcupines, and being an expert on such animals i think I would know whether they had a smell to them. In fact the first thing I do to examine an animal is smell it. Thank you for your question and please, ask again.

Is it safe to eat beaver meat?

is it safe to eat beaver meat? That depends on whether it has been washed.

Clarification

Beaver meat can be cooked and eaten as safely as most meats. The main concern with beaver meat would be the possibility of contracting leptospirosis. To avoid contracting that disease, avoid all contact with the raw meat and juices, use rubber gloves while handling it and cook it thoroughly. Washing the meat would not be enough to prevent the disease.

Leptospirosis is caused by bacteria and is usually associated with rabbits. Both humans and animals (including pets) can get the disease. Untreated, it can cause kidney damage, brain inflammation, liver failure and even death.

Is Timothy Omundson Irish?

My friend here swears that he's Irish. I have doubts, and I don't really care. She insits, though, if that's any help.

He's obviously Irish. I've heard him use/fake an Irish accent, and it was perfect. But that isn't really proof of anything. Anyone can do an accent. But I can see in on his face, and his hair is a dead giveaway. But this is only a guess based on my experience of him.

According to IMDB, he was born in St. Louis, MO, and grew up in Seattle WA. I believe he is of Irish descent, though, because there is more than one picture on IMDB that shows him wearing a claddagh ring on his right ring finger. If his Irish accent is really good, maybe one or more of his parents or grandparents is native Irish.
