You MUST know your Blackberry's password in order to follow these instructions:

NOTE: These steps were performed on May 8, 2012 Using The Blackberry Bold 9700 Phone (running OS 6.0) and The Blackberry Desktop Manager (version 5.0.0 Build 28). These steps may also work with other Blackberry phone models running different OS versions and may also work with other versions of the Desktop Manager software.

If your Blackberry Phone says type "blackberry" to continue. DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING OR YOUR DEVICE WILL ERASE EVERYTHING. This situation can occur if you have entered the wrong password too many times (such as buttons being pressed accidentally while the phone is in your pocket).

If you don't already have it, use your home computer to search Google for "Blackberry Desktop Manager version 5.0.0 Build 28" and download the version that says "Without Media Manager". After downloading of the file is complete, disable your internet connection or unplug your internet cord (if either is possible).

After you have downloaded the file, double click on it. Wait a few moments for it to open. Press [NEXT] and agree to the terms, select "Custom Installation", click the drop-down arrow that says "Automatic Updates" and click the X to choose NOT to install this feature. When asked if you want to install "Roxio Media Manager", choose "Without Media Manager". Click Next. When asked if you want to "check for updates", select [NO]. Click [Install]. The software will take a few minutes to install. Once it has finished, UNCHECK the box that says "Run Desktop Manager Now". Click [Finish].

Remove the batterry from your Blackberry Phone for 15 seconds then reinsert it. Wait for the phone to boot up and return to the home screen. AGAIN, do not type anything YET.

Go to your computer again, Double Click the "Desktop Manager" icon to start the software. After a delay, you should see some choices appear on the screen, the program is now ready.

Press the left shift key on your Blackberry phone to wake it up.

Using a mini-USB cord, connect the large end of the cord to your computer's USB port and connect the small end of the cord to your Blackberry Phone.

Wait about 30 seconds, the program will detect your phone and then it will check the software on the phone, wait for this process to finish, if your phone's screen turns off again then press the shift key to wake it up.

The computer will now ask you to enter your phone's password.

THINK -- The keyboard on your phone is different from your computer keyboard, so if your password was 5-0-6-7 but you NEVER had to press the ALT key to type it on your blackberry, then your password is really D-0-F-Z (becuase that's how the blackberry keyboard works -- so that is the way you would type it on your computer's keyboard). Make sure the phone is awake, Enter your password on the computer, click [OKAY]. Your phone should now be UNLOCKED. Close the Desktop Manager and unplug your phone. Don't forget to check the time on your phone to make sure it's correct.

You may now enable (or reconnect) your internet. You may also uninstall the software from the computer, or you may choose upgrade it or turn on automatic updates for Desktop Manager if you wish.

Some computers vary. F8 is normally safe mode. F10 is normally boot mode.

Well my friend the blackberry curve is a messaging phone it is good obviously for messaging I personally prefer slider phones the blackberry curve has the QWERTY keyboard right on the front. I personally think that sliding your phone out to message is more fun but since you are looking at the blackberry curve that means you are on Verizon so I have a solution if you would maybe want to look at the Motorola Rival then I would call you smart! The Motorola Rival is a fun phone with partial touch screen and is a great slider phone. But getting back to your question and I would say the blackberry curve is an OK phone. The only problem is that the phone is difficult to type numbers in a message so your question has been answered.
