You may get some iron deficiency (depending on how well your cereal is fortified). You may lack some vitamin C (no fresh fruit/veg, and minimal amounts of vitamin C used as a bread improver. You would not be lacking enough vitamin C to get scurvy, but you would still be deficient). You will be lacking in essential fatty acids, and possibly calcium (if you're not having the cereal with milk). You would also be lacking in protein (especially if the cereal does not contain a lot of nuts/seeds). It would not be a healthy diet, but you could survive on it, especially if you ate the right breads/cereals.

In Prattville, Alabama, I bought a Winn Dixie brand loaf of plain white thin-sliced bread for ninety-nine cents ($.99). That month, I also bought a loaf of Sara Lee blueberry bread (sliced-small) for about $3.75 and Pepperidge Farm cinnamon-raisin bread (sliced-small) for about $3.25 at the WalMart Superstore. The price of a loaf of bread here can be as low or as high as you want. We have different stores with prices that vary, and we have different loaves with prices that vary. If I went to the Winn Dixie store for that same loaf of Sara Lee blueberry bread, I would probably pay about $4.75 for it. If I went to the "Day Old" bread store for the same loaf, I may be able to get it for about $2 or $3, maybe less if they are about to throw it out. The price of bread is as variable as the price of fruit and vegetables! It depends on where you are, where the bread was made, the local cost of living and job market, etc. Take your pick! $1.29
