Brooklyn is not a city, so it does not have a mayor. Brooklyn is one of the five boroughs of New York City: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. The current (2010) Mayor of New York City is Michael Bloomberg.

Each of the five boroughs has a Borough President. The current (2010) Brooklyn Borough President is Marty Markowitz.

It is approximately 1748 miles between the two cities, and approximately 27 1/2 hours of actual driving time at an average speed of 63.5 mph. Personally I have driven between Houston and Queens six times. We made the trip rather comfortably in three days in an economy car and with an early start each day.

A few simple tips to save time: 1) Eat breakfast at home, or a hotel, before you begin to avoid an extra stop 2) Take one hour long break from driving at lunch around midday; you'll feel better and more alert for the rest of the day 3) Make additional fuel stops only at major stations with restaurants (they have better bathrooms) and combine fueling with bathroom breaks, snack eating, and souvenir shopping wherever possible 4) Always fuel up before going to sleep so you don't have to take the extra time in the morning, or stop shortly after getting on the road. 5) If you are close to a major city and decide to bed down for the night, pick a hotel on the side of town that is on your way out of it. This will position you against any potential workday commuter traffic in the morning.

Brooklyn is on Long Island. So is Queens. Brooklyn, Queens, and the rest of Long Island (which is made up of two counties, Nassau and Suffolk) all make up one big island that is actually larger than the state of Rhode Island!

The Battle of Brooklyn Heights, also known as the Battle of Long Island, was fought in Brooklyn. The New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens are located on the western end of Long Island. Specifically, the battle was fought in what is now the Brooklyn neighborhood of Gowanus, which is a little bit south of the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, directly inland of Governor's Island.

After the battle, the American troops fled to Brooklyn Heights. The British planned a siege, but the troops evacuated before it could happen.

The Brooklyn Dodgers played at Ebbets Field in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. Currently, the site of the stadium is covered with residential units, as well as nearby schools and local businesses.
