Yes, I believe this is very common on this and 2005-model Lesabres. I own a 2004 model and my cruise switch (set/resume) failed just today, while the backlights for the electronic air conditioner, passenger-side air temperature, and various radio lights have all failed. My mother owns a 2005 Lesabre and went through a nightmare at a GM dealership having one of the steering wheel mounted radio control switches replaced - first, the tech insisted they "never break," which is patently incorrect, then the tech installed the switch improperly, then had to order a different replacement part - four trips in all. Fortunately for her, this was all under warranty. My warranty ran out about 16K miles ago. My LeSabre is a wonderful car, but these kinds of idiotic defects that seem to permeate the line is just another testimony to horrendous GM build quality. For heaven's sake, its a wire with a light; how hard should that be to design and implement? For GM, its apparently next to impossible. -David

How to fix coolant leak associated with the upper intake housing 2002 Buick LeSabre?
If this is a 3800 V6 then the leak is more than likely at the intake plenum. Be very careful with this one, as you can easily have hydro-lock and do serious damage to the engine. Remove all spark plugs, and disconnect the coil wire, remove the intake and check for cracks or if it is warped. When replacing the intake get the new gasket from a GM dealer, as GM as come out with a redesigned gasket to help prevent leaks. After re-installed the plenum, turn the engine over with the plugs still removed. See if any coolant comes out of the cylinders. If not, install the plugs and start the engine. If you see coolant, make sure all of it is removed before starting the engine by turning the engine over a few times. Pour some diesel fuel or kerosene in each cylinder and allow it to set overnight. Change the oil and filter the next morning and then turn the engine over again to blow out any remaining diesel or kerosene. Install the plugs and start the engine. Hydro-lock is a distinct possibility and will cause serious engine damage, as in bent rods, if you do not remove the coolant before attempting to start the engine. As having worked at a buick dealership I have never had a buick 3800 with bent rods from a hydro-lock. We have had to replace starters that were broke due to this. The mechanic usually took about two hours and it was on its way!
How do you change the right headlight on a 1999 buick lesabre?
This is in the owner's manual with photos and is very easy. Lift hood exposing the two bolts next to the light assembly. Take off headlight assembly with 10mm socket or driver, two bolts on inside side of the headlamp (right or left) assembly. The assembly then slides out with pins anchoring the outside of the lamp that just slide off. A 1/4 turn (lefty loosey) and the bulb slides out. Nudge clamps from wiring assembly (I used a screwdriver). The bulb didn't appear to be burned out but the $12.50 replacement fixed the problem. Took thirty minutes looking for 10mm socket and including trip to parts store. Five minutes labor or less.

How do you repair a blown head gasket on a 1998 Buick LeSabre?
This is done in stages. You first must take the head off and see which one has blown. If it was damaged badly it may need to be resurfaced. Then after it is you put the head back on with all new gaskets. It is best if you have a mechanic do this because there are a lot of variables to this work.

Hey Harry==It is probably the wiring or the drivers door switch. It will have to be checked out. GoodluckJoe Check wiring harness first...After buying new 4 button door switch(83$) I found out the wiring harness between front door and door jam has a broken wire . This was on a buick regal 2000. Some 2000 buick lesabres have a "child safety" switch on the driver side door panel which, if activated, will cause this symptom. I am not aware that ALL lesabres have this switch but I would bet that all lesabres are "wired the same so if this switch is not present then a good guess is that the problem can still be found inside the front door panel. (loose wire, etc.) R.Hand

Why is catalytic converter overheating?
A catalytic converter overheats due to an excess of unburned hydrocarbons reaching it through the exhaust stream for an extended period of time. This overworks the catalyst bed inside the converter, which then starts to become plugged, generating even more heat as it does. In short order, the converter will become a significant exhaust obstruction, causing the engine to overheat and lose power. Eventually, this will prevent the engine from running, due to the inability of the exhaust to escape, denying the engine the opportunity to "breathe"...
Why does check engine light stay on after replacing the egr valve on a 2001 buick lesabre?
Because you did not have a faulty EGR valve. You misdiagnosed the problem. Start over and remember the code only tells you what part is being effected not necessarily the defective part. This is assuming you reset the light or drove the car enough cycles for the light to reset. If not then reset the light and see if it comes back on.
