This is a questions that causes a lot of debate and often arguments. The short answer is "Yes". But there are a number of factors to consider.
1. What condition is the engine in? If the engine has broken components, excessive wear etc, then it is very unlikely that any additive is going to help. (Having said that, I did once repair a badly broken head gasket with an additive)
2. What type of additive are you using? There are alot of brands out there and some of them are definitely 'snake oils'.
3. What sort of oil leak is it? If it's minor then a good additive will most likely assist.
4. What are the side effects (if any)? Most 'oil leak' type products work by thickening the oil in your engine. Thicker oil is harder for the engine to push around and therefore more strian is added therefore leaks are more likely to recur.
In 40+ years of driving on four continents and a dozen countries; and having owned a variety of cars from brand new to old 'clunkers', I have formed certain opinions. These are only opinions. I do have some formal training in motor mechanics and one of my past professions involved motor cars. This oes not make me an expert.
I have found that a product called XADO works quite well on older high milage engines. It does do pretty much what is says without problem side effects (except that it now runs a little rich). But this was in my engine which may have different causational (there's a word that doesn't exist) problems to yours. I have found that Many of the Wynns products have some effect if the motor is not too bad. You could also have a look to see if the sump nut is tight or needs a seal washer. Also checkk that the oil filler cap is on tighly and the dip stick fully in its slot.

Before installing the starter motor, make sure the electrical terminals are secure by tightening the nuts next to the cap on the solenoid battery terminal and on the "S" terminal. If these terminals are not tight in the solenoid cap, the cap may be damaged during installation of the electrical connections and cause premature starter failure.

To install: Note the location of any shims so they may be replaced in the same positions upon installation. # Place the starter in position, then install the starter-to-engine bolts and tighten to 1 ft. lbs. (43 Nm). # Attach the electrical connectors to the starter, as tagged during removal. Tighten as follows: ## Tighten the nut on the solenoid battery terminal to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm). ## On the SD-250 and SD-255 models, tighten the nut on the "S" terminal to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm). # If removed, install the flywheel inspection cover and secure with the retaining bolts. Tighten the flywheel cover bolts to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm). # If removed, install the splash shield. # Carefully lower the vehicle. # Connect the negative battery cable.
SOLENOID REPLACEMENT # Remove the starter, as outlined earlier in this section. # Remove the screw from the field strap at the rear of the starter. # Remove the 2 bolts holding the solenoid to the starter. # Rotate the solenoid 90 degrees and remove it from the starter. Be aware that there is a large spring behind the solenoid. To install: # Push solenoid and spring onto starter and rotate into position. # Install the mounting bolts and tighten to 60 inch. lbs. (6.5 Nm). # Install screw to field strap and tighten the retaining screw to 75 inch lbs. (8.5 Nm). # Install the starter, as outlined earlier in this section.

It is more likely a tir rod end or balljoint. If you jack up that corner of the vehicle, support it properly, and with the tire just off ot the ground, grab the left and right sided of the tire try to shake it side to side. If there is play, it is likely a tie rod end. By placing hands at the top and bottom, and again shaking toward and away from you, if there is play, it is then likely a ball joint that is bad.

Under dash on the right side, mounted on panel just in front of door sometimes called right side kick panel. Take off the right side under dash liner and there should be an information sticker on it to show fuse and relay lay out. That is where I found mine and it is a pain to get to and see.

SOunds like it is misfiring and not burning all of it. First check ignition, fuel pressure, if ok, check compression all cylinders.

Can you drop the front subframe out the bottom of a 97 lesabre?
There are six cradle bolts, retainers and special bushings which can be purchased from GM to do this job. It is expensive and time consuming. If the rear bolts and or retainers fail the cradle could drop down and you will loose ability to steer the car. If you are having such a problem I strongly recommend that you have it checked and repaired by a GM dealer.

Or, the ignition switch itself, which has nylon gears that can strip and break, has gone bad. To replace it, the steering wheel and other pieces have to come off.
