First of all if the engine starts and does get warmed up check to see that the upper hose is nice and hot. If NOT then check your thermostat as it may be open. If the engine is hot then check the two heater hoses that go to the firewall. They should be hot also. That is BOTH should be hot unless it uses a valve to close one hose. If it does you will note that. If both hoses are HOT then you KNOW you have hot coolant traveling through the heater core. Now also remember that you do this check in about 5 minutes after the engine has fully warmed up. I say this as if you wait too long..its entirely possible that your heater core is plugged up and it is merely trasfering heat through the core structure. IF both hoses are HOT your issue is with the blend door and how its controlled. If its climate controlled then the door is probably controlled by a motor or vacuum motor. You would have to check the schematic to see exactly HOW its done. As I said..if the core is flowing hot coolant then your only issue is controlling the temp. Also I might add that make sure your AC compressor is NOT working when the controller is on the heat mode. If it is its possible your AC is cooling the heat...that you want!
1994 Buick Roadmaster heater core replacement?
# Drain anti_freeze low pressure air through the heater core will help empty it)
# Disconnect Heater core hoses on the engine compartment side of the firewall. # Remove cover panel under dash. # Remove dash board brace (small support brace that runs from firewall to glove box shroud surround.) # Remove lower air box section. ( Many small screws so be sure you get them all) # Remove air conditioning evaporator (Some times this requires the disconnection of hoses in the engine compartment, But try to work around that first to avoid having to recharge your air conditioner.) # Remove the heater core mounting straps and screws. # Wiggle the heater core towards the glove box to extract the steel hoses from the firewall bushings/seals. # Be careful not to spill any remaining anti-freeze on the carpet. # If you had a leaky heater core be sure to clean the air box the best you can to keep the anti-freeze smell out of the car.
# Reverse this procedure to install the new heater core.I hope that helps someone in some way. It's not complicated but it is a pain in the rump to be upside down for that long. You may need to take several breaks during this process to give your neck and back a break as well as your knuckles... It's not an easy repair but it is pretty straight forward.
If I left any thing out please feel free to add comments to these instructions. Generally these instructions should cover most years of Buick Roadmasters.
Just an additional note:
If you have to disconnect your air you may have to upgrade your entire system to the new R34 system instead of R12 because of the new environmental laws in some areas. Try to avoid this as best you can because R34 is not as effective in an older systems as it is in newer systems simply because the evaporator and condenser are smaller and they need to be large to transfer the heat in the R34. It's not nearly as effective at the transfer of heat as the environmentally unfriendly R12 was.

Can you hear fuel pump after the car quits by turning the key on and off ? If you can't it's the fuel pump relay or pump. Does it only happen after the car has warmed right up ? If that's the case check how much exhaust is coming out of the tail pipe after it's warmed up! If there isn't much coming out your catyltic converter is pluged and needs to be replaced. This happened to me. Car would run fine until it warmed right up then stuff in converter would expand and choke exhaust off and car would die. After it cooled off stuff would contract and car would run fine again. Good luck...Rick D
This happen to me. the problem was the Fuel tank sending unit.
It could also be the fuel pump strainer. When it is clogged it collapses and cuts off fuel to the engine. You have to wait a while before it will start back up.
How do you take lines off fuel pump in 96 Buick Roadmaster?
If the '96 is the same as my '95- then you simply have to have a GM-style fuel-line quick disconnect tool. There is one size for the outlet line from the fuel pump, and another for the return line. Be careful and get the right tool! Some stores sell a "combination" that contains both sizes on a single tool. These will not work- they fit the trucks, but will not fit the cars. Know from experience. The tool simpply slips under the locking ring, releases the spring pressure, and the line slips off. The lines can only be accessed after you drop the tank a few inches from its perch, though.
