If the horn still works for your alarm, (when you lock or panic) the fault is most likely the slip ring/spring in your steering wheel. That provides the negative side of he circuit to make the relay honk the horn. If every now and then the horn works, until you turn a few times, this is most likely the problem. Could also be the horn relay (under the hood, clearly marked in a fuse panel there.)

Hi, The horn isn't actually under the hood, it's under the front clip of the car. If you get down on the ground and look behind and under the bumper you should see both horns mounted in the center. They are actually quite easily reached for service. Regards Ken

I have a 1992 Toyota pickup, Had a HARD time finding the horn relay myself. The horn relay on my 1992 Pickup is located on the drivers side, to the right (or towards the front of the truck) of the small fuse block that has an access panel door on the kick panel, you have to remove the kick panel to see the relay, in my case it was just unplugged, plugged it back in and horn now works. The relay has printing on it and it says "HORN RELAY" Good luck! Laterz, Len P :)

Get a circuit tester and go out and put the red lead on one wire and the black lead on the ground wire and have someone push on the horn. Set your voltmeter to read 20 volts and watch , when the person pushes on the horn, the circuit tester should show a voltage reading maybe 12 or less but you shoudl get a reading. If you don't then there is somethign wrong in the wiring but if you get a reading...then the horn is bad and you need a new horn.

Most horn buttons provide the ground to energize the horn relay. The horn relay when triggered sends power to the horn.

Whats the problem 2003 alero horn wont stop blowing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The problem is the plastic parts integral to the airbag/horn unit in the steering column. The plastic bits contract when cold and cause the horn's switches to contact. Once it starts, the only solution is to replace that assembly, costing around $800. Good times. Sometimes it will turn off when warm, like in the dealers garage, so the problem cannot be replicated, and then the car wakes up the entire neighbourhood at 3am again until you pull the fuse. I have same problem. Relay overheats. Did you find an answer?

Open the hood, find the hood lock/latch mechanism. Look directly to the left about 6-8 inches, you'll see a small 10mm bolt on the car body. Attached to that bolt is a bracket, holding the horn behind the bumper. It is connected with a single, electrical spade connector. The bolt grounds the horn to complete the electrical circuit.

How do i fix a broken horn on my 1996 ford explorer?

On the 1996 Explorer, in the power distribution box in the engine compartment, (WHICH IS LIVE - DISCONNECT YOUR NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE) there is a relay for the horn, in the 2nd row from the driver's side front fender, in the first space at the "front" end of the PD BOX. Also, in the PD BOX is a 20 amp fuse for the horn and PCM memory, in the 1st row from the driver's side front fender, in the second space from the firewall end of the PD BOX. The horn is located under the battery tray, if the driver's front wheel is removed and the rubber inner liner pulled down, a person can reach up and feel the horn or use a flashlight and mirror to check the wiring connection if the battery and battery tray are removed a person can see the horn, to check the wiring connection.
