Care of Birds

They are not just a feathered kitten or puppy. Avian companions require special care and this is the category to find out all about that.

Template to make a robins nesting box?

Actually Robins will nest in boxes but they won't use boxes designed for the Tit family. Use a template for an open fronted nest box & place it somewhere under cover & away from prying eyes (including yours). Robins will abandon their nest if they are disturbed. You need to also make sure that it's also inaccessible to predators such as Jays, Magpies, Cats etc. A regular supply of live mealy worms will also help. What to feed a baby sparrow if he can fly and don't have its parents around?

do not feed him bread or anything else. there is nothing you can buy at the pet store to feed him, wild birds have a much different diet than captve birds. the only kind of baby bird formula a pet store would sell to you is parrot formula which is not the correct diet for a sparrow. you need to bring him to a wildlife rehab center, call you local vet to find one near you. it is illegal for you to try to keep this bird, also if you are not trained in handling and feeding baby birds you can injure or kill it. so just bring him to a wildlife rehab center as soon as possible.

What does it mean when a parakeet flaps its wings really fast?

If you had your parakeet's wings clipped then they are probably growing back now. Your Parakeet might be flapping to see if he or she can fly again yet.

All species of birds occasionally flap their wings around as a form of stretching exercises. So your parakeet may be stretching or exercising, which is good as it helps their lungs, chest and wings develop.

The best way to tame a rooster, or a chicken, is to hand feed them. If they wont come up to you to hand feed them, try again when they are hungry. Another thing to keep in mind is that the roosters nature is to protect the hens and, if they consider you a threat, they will act to defend the flock. Furthermore, some breeds are not good pets. Game chickens, as a rule of thumb, are more aggressive.
