Before and during Jackson's presidency, his followers were antagonized by the rival Adams and people against Jackson, which later on gave rise to the Whigs. Jacksons political policies was called the Jacksonian Democracy, consecutive to ending what was also known as a "monopoly" of government. The body of voters expanded to include all white men, other than just white men that owned land. The Jacksonian Democracy helped to promote how stronge the presidency and executive branch at the expense of Congress. They also looked to make the public's participation in the government expanded.

Richard Chavez was the brother of Cesar Chavez, the hero of the farm workers movement of the 1960's. Together, the two brothers organized and united migrant workers of California for better wages and working conditions. They founded the United Farm Workers.

A carpenter, Richard spearheaded the construction of the future Union Hall for the fledgling movement. He designed the now famous logo while his brother chose the colors. Cesar might have been the "front man" for the organization, but Richard was the organizational force behind the movement. He was the one who drove the Delano grape boycott which lasted five years.

It was Richard who shaped the marches and boycotts into a working union. His driving force was the impetus for the union to become an economic and political force in the labor market today.

As our strike has grown, workers have matured and now know why and how to fight for their rights. As the strike has grown into a movement for justice by the lowest paid workers in America, friends of farm workers have begun to rally in support of LA CAUSA. Civil rights, church, student and union groups help with food and money.

We believe that this is the beginning of a significant drive to achieve equal rights for agricultural workers. In order to enlist your full support and to explain our work to you, I would like to bring some of our pickets and meet with you.

Cesar Chavez's children are Fernando, Paul and Anthony Chavez; Linda Chavez Rodriguez, Sylvia Chavez Delgado, Eloise Chavez Carrillo, Anna Chavez Ybarra and Elizabeth Chavez Villarino. Linda Chavez Rodriguez was born on January 22, 1951 and passed away in 2000. She was the third of the eight children.
