Are there any recalls for a daytime running light wiring problem on a Chevy Cavalier?

I ripped up the headlight wires from a little below the driver side headlamp all the way to the other lamp. I found A LOT of connections rotted out. I re-did the connections and viola, DRL's ran again. Also there is a DRL relay on the radiator just behind the hood latch. Try that first. Good luck.

If you are speaking of the relay beside the hood latch, its a crash sensor and not a DRL relay.

How do you replace a serpentine belt in a 1999 Chevy cavalier and do you need any special tools?

Hey there, To replace the serpentine belt on a 1999 cavalier, is a fairly simple operation provided you have the right tools. You will need a *OEM* brand serpentine belt kit, if you dont want to buy it($33 beans), you can rent one from your local auto-zone or advance auto parts store. About half way down the passenger side of the engine, there is a belt tensioner. This is spring loaded and holds the belt tight against the pulleys during normal operation. you take the long red handled lever in the serpentine kit and put its 3/8 square socket head into the 3/8 square hole in the belt tensioner. You then simply push the lever CLOCKWISE until you have released enough tension on the belt to slide it off of the pulleys. It then can be removed completely and a replacement put on. To replace the belt simply reverse the procedure. There is a serpentine belt diagram on the underhood of most GM vehicles. !!!Caution!!! On My 2001 Cavalier with factory ac, I had to work around the ac lines, place a bottle jack under the engine(not on the oil pan) and wind up unbolting the passenger side motor mount, and the radiator overflow tank in order to gain enough access to service the very tight area around the pulleys. This may be different for you TK out!!!!

Why is your ac heater fuse blowing after replacing the heater cole?

Something must not have went back together correctly when replacing the heater core. Looks like someone has to do the job over again.

Where is the thermostat located on a 2001 Chevy Cavalier?

Oddly enough, the housing for the thermostat is on the lower radiator hose. Follow the hose to a black housing attached to a cast aluminum housing! The front of this housing seperates by two 8mm bolts revealing the thermostat! The cast housing is easy to spot... it is directly underneath the alternator and to the right of the exhaust manifold. some models have a heat shield over the manifold that must be removed for easy access! The cast housing routes directly to the motor and has several bypass hoses routed thru it!

How do you install a stereo in a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier?

The instructions should be the same for most cavaliers 95-99

Its really not that hard. You have to take off the dash so that you can get at the trim holding you back from the radio. Unscrew the defrost vent first. Pop it off and undo the hex screw underneath. Next, pop out the two side panels and undo one hex screw on each side, Not the brass ones. Open the glove box, there are three hex screws on the top part of the glove compartment, remove them. Then look inside the glove box, there is a hole with two brass screws inside holding on a metal bracket, remove those. Now you can take out the dash by lifting up and out. Then all you need to do is take out three more hex screws on top of the trim and it will pop off nice and easy. Now you should be able to get at the radio, two more screws and it is gone. If you can get a hold of a hex screwdiver, then that works ten times better than a 7mm socket wrench. Most of the hex screws have the hex slot in the top but the brass ones will have to be taken out by the socket wrench.

How do you flush the cooling system on a 1997 Chevy Cavalier?

The 97 Cavalier doesn't have a typical drain on the radiator, as the entire system is closed and should only need service every 100,000 miles (barring any leaks or malfunctions) with the Dex-Cool coolant. To drain the cooling system, all you have to do it get under the radiator on the passenger side of the car and locate the drain plug. When you remove it, the coolant will run onto a piece of the frame and finally down through a nearby hole. You'll need to place something like an oil pan under the hole to catch the coolant.

Will the valves be damaged if the timing chain breaks on a 2.2 liter Chevy engine?

If it is a gas engine it has a chain. If it is a diesel, it has a timing belt, and is an interference engine. The belt must be changed every 60,000 miles. It is highly unlikely that the chain will break without prior symptoms, alerting you to the fact that it is worn out. If it did happen to break, it will do no damage to the internal engine as this is not an interference engine. No, but you will be stranded. Chains last a very long time. If you are hearing chain noise or having trouble keeping the engine in time, the chain needs replacing.

How do you install a water pump in a 2000 cavalier?

its actually not a hard job to do on these motors (2200 4 cylinder) 1. with the serpentine belt still in place take a wrench and break loose the 3 bolts holding the pulley on the water pump. 2. remove the serpentine belt by relieving the tensioner pulley. ( just takes a standard ratchet) 3. remove the alternator, there are three bolts holding the alternator in place, two on the side that the belt is on (one on top of the alternator and one under it) and one on the lower back side of it under a bracket, then just move it out of your way (you dont even have to disconnect it). 4. remove the 3 bolts on the water pump pulley, remove the pulley. 5. break loose the 4 bolts holding the water pump to the motor, unthread them alittle to let the old coolent drain out of the motor past the pump, them remove the pump. 6. remove all the old gasket from the motor surface, use the new gasket that comes with the new pump and apply RTV to both sides of the new gasket. 7. install the new water pump by reversing the steps for removal, fill the car back up to spec with Dex-a-cool, you may wanna drive it around the block after filling to get the air out of the system, then recheck the coolant level. then you are done!
