What other hoods will fit a 1985 El Camino?

The hoods from any fifth generation El Camino will fit. This includes flat and cowl induction styles. I believe you can also use a hood from a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a hood from an Oldsmobile Cutlass from similar years. There are also many aftermarket styles available that are made specifically for fifth generation El Caminos.

Switching manual carb to electric?

That is Not a good idea as you will need a computor, wiring harness, distributor and new carburator. The cost does Not justify it. yes you can put an electric choke carb on your engine with no problem, Edelbrock sells them and all you need is a hot wire from the ignition run to the carb and a ground wire, very simple operation.

How do you replace the ignition switch located on a 1971 Chevy El Camino with tilt steering?

The ignition switch is located on the steering column just above the brake pedal. it has 2 screws holding it in place. You will need to take the entire steering colum off. Pull the wiring harness out.. it's a real pain. I own a 1970 SS 396 cowl induction, factory air, everything stock. It's an orignal.

== == Your car has a Rack and rod setup. When the key is turned it pushes the rod down the steering column and slides the ignition switch into the position you want. To replace it you need to remove it from the bottom of the steering column. There should be either two screws or a clamp.

How do you replace the key cylinder ignition on a 1979 El Camino?

You will need to remove the retaining ring at the top of your 1979 Chevrolet El Camino ignition switch. The ignition switch will slide out. Remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.

Where you can find the blue book for a 67 Chevy El Camino What if the body and interior has been redone however you are not one to know about under the hood it has a 350 engine and a 350 tranny?

You can get an estimate of the value at www.nada.com. If the vehicle has a 350 then that is not the original engine, and the value goes down. This is a classic and the value is very subjective. I would contact someone who deals in this type vehicle to find the true value. Evan a local Chevy dealer can help. This vehicle is probably worth way more than you think. I would guess from $7,000 to as high as $15,000 depending on condition. If it had the original 283, it could go as high as $20,000. Even a rough ElCamino will bring close to $5,000. You have a rare classic that was produced in low numbers, so the price is determined by what someone will pay.

Is a 1974 frame the same as a 1975 frame in a Corvette?

No, the 1974 Corvette frame is NOT the same as a 1975 Corvette frame. I have had customers modify it to fit, but you would have to change the rear kick up or adapt a 75 and above rear bumper assembly to make it work.

Where is the Electronic Control Module located in a 1987 El Camino?

Inside the distriburetor, it's the thing with all the wires going to it.

How do you replace heater core on a 1985 El Camino?

Disconnect the negative battery cable, then drain the engine cooling system to a level below heater core.

  1. Disconnect and plug the heater hoses at the core tubes. Plugging the hoses will help prevent excessive coolant leakage.

  2. Remove the module's rubber seal and screen. If necessary, disconnect the washer nozzle from the cowl.
  3. If necessary, remove the right windshield wiper arm.
  4. As applicable, remove or disengage, the diagnostic connector, high blower relay, thermostatic switch, ground strap and/or electrical connectors from the heater core module cover.
  5. Loosen the retainers and remove the module's top cover. The cover is sealed to the module and this seal must be broken before the cover can be removed. Be absolutely sure that all cover fasteners are removed before attempting to break the seal or cover damage will result. Take your time and be careful not to force and crack or otherwise damage the cover.
  6. With the top cover removed, loosen or unclip the core retainer, then carefully lift the core from the vehicle.

How do you remove a coil spring on 1985 El Camino?

Support the car on jack stands. remove disc, support control arm with a floor jack.

Release control arm from upper ball joint then lower control arm from ball joint .

Lower jack completely away so that lower control arm is fully extended.

Stand to the side with a pry bar (3-4 foot bar) and pry bottom of spring.

It will pop out about 4 feet when it comes loose. Springs must be compressed to installation height to reinstall be very careful.

Was the 1986 el camino available with a 4 speed manual transmission?

Of the final rear wheel drive generation, 1978 and 1979 were the only two model years GM offered a 3 or 4 speed manual transmission in the Elcamino and all G body models. A manual transmission swap into an '86 would be fairly simple using the components from a salvaged '78 or '79 model (although they are not easy to find). I hope this helps, I own 3 factory manual transmission G bodies. A '78 Monte Carlo, a '79 Monte Carlo and a '79 Cutlass.

How can you modify your 350 Chevy engine?

you can make it a 383 stroker, add a bigger cam,its like a 307,its got a 283 block with a 327 cam that makes it a 307,you can't do much more to the 307 to get more power, because it has a short bore, you have to find other ways to get some power, its bored pretty much close to the max.

There are all kinds of mods that you can do to get more power.

A 383 stroker can be a 350 block with a different crankshaft and pistons, giving it more stroke, making tons of torque.

A 283 block with a 327 crank ends up being a 333 after a .010 oversize bore.

I believe you can make a 377 out of a 350 with a different crank and pistons too.

377 is the best of both worlds, meaning toy get more stroke, giving more torque, and you can also run it at high rpm for more HP.

This is normally done with a 400 block but I am pretty wure that it can be done with a 350 block also, just a different combination of parts.

How do you replace ignition switch in a 1970 chevell?

Hi, If I'm not mistaken, there should be a very small pin hole just below where you insert the ign. key.. What you do is take a paper clip and insert it into that small hole when you have the ign. key in the accessories position, and you should be able to pull that whole key & tumbler piece out!
