When did the cold war start and end?
The beginning of the Cold War could be traced back to Churchill's use of the term "Iron Curtain", on 3 May 1946. This came to symbolise the beginning of the Cold War because it was the period marked by political tension and military rivalry, stopping just short of escalating into full-scale war, between the West as represented by the USA, and the East headed by the Soviet Union.
However, the Cold War did not have an "official" start date with a single day in mind. Some historians feel it began at the end of World War II, in late 1945, when Josef Stalin of the USSR refused to let the Eastern European nations go after the war. The US, Britain and France demanded the nations be allowed to chose their own types of government. Stalin was not going to let that happen, and his actions escalated the arms race of the Cold War. Some historians suggest it began in 1949, after the Yalta Conference.
The Cold War could really only truly be seen to have ended with the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of the two Germanys - one symbolising the East and the other symbolising the West - in 1990. Shortly after this, many Russian states began to break free, seeking independence from Russia.
Why was the NASA created in the cold war?
First there was the National Advisory Council on Aeronautics, or NACA. It was created in 1915 to do aeronautical research, and a lot of its research is still used; the wings on all airplanes are designed as NACA airfoils. NACA also created the cowling used on every radial-engined airplane made since 1927. When spaceflight became possible, NACA was expanded to do research into civilian applications of space, and NACA became NASA.
As to why it was created in the Cold War...that falls into the "well, it just happened that way" category.
Why did silverchair flunk so bad with young modern?
SIlverchair is an extremely popular Austtralian band but Young Modern really bought their popularity down. for somew reason the band didnt focus on the music much, instead (quote danile johns) "we wanted it to be famous". the sound is nothing like the silverchair people are used to and that has really ruined their fan base. i would be assuming you are from America because silverchair are absolutlety hopeless in the states now. young modern has been voted the worst album of the year in the usa and that is majorly due to the unbelievable flunk of 'if you keep losing sleep'. unfortunately silverchair are having problems writing music now and if young modern is anything to go on, thry're only going to get worse.
He's jealous because they're better, cuter and richer then he is ;)
During the cold war in 1969 what do they call this today?
Now that you mention it, the term meant nothing to anybody. It was a fact of life from 1945 until your chosen year of 1969. It was like breathing air, drinking water, or going to work...just part of life. No one made of big deal out of it, no one even talked about it. If the topic, known today as the "cold war" was brought up, it most likely went something like this:
1. Hey did ya hear about that new Russian Sub? (Note: even back then people referred to the Soviets as Russians sometimes).
2. Hey Bob, they got a new tank out, the T-72, ya oughta see it. There's a picture in Time (magazine), forgot what page it's on though.
3. Hey Mike, what tanks are the NVA using over there? (Note: sometimes people didn't even say the words "Vietnam"...just over there; it was the only war going on at the time CONCERNING US Forces).
Bottom line: Cold War is well known and established AFTER IT DISAPPEARED!
The Soviets shot down an American spy plane.

The "Space Race" was an immediate spawn of the Cold War. The Cold War was pretty much the Soviet Union and the U.S. constantly 1-upping each other, and the lunar landing was just yet another 1-up by the United States.
