Why can't we increase compression ratio in petrol engines?

Because that would make the compressed air so hot that the gas/fuel mixture would self ignite, and you don't want that. Gas engines rely on spark plugs to have the the cylinger ignite at the right moment. W/o it you get an uncontrolled flame front, knocking, rough running and maybe even engine damage

How do you solve diesel engine power loss?

Re-build your diesel. Put on a custom chip and that will make up for engine power loss.

Where is the engine number engraved on the engine block?

It depends on the manufacture. The eight digit of the vehicle identification number will tell you the size unless it has had the engine replaced. The engine size is also stamped on the driver's side of the engine block, above the starter motor.

What does stroke means in a car engine?

It's how far the piston travels from its top position to its bottom position as the crank turns. Long stroke is usually good for high torque and short stroke is good for high revs.

What causes NO2 in internal combustion engines?

lean mixture..results to increase NO2,, increasing the fuel will reduce NO2 but increase carbon monoxide, so the EGR is developed to reduce NO2 without increasing the fuel in turn increasing the CO.

How is a gasoline engine different from a diesel engine?

A gas engine ignites gasoline in the piston chamber with a spark from a spark plug. The expanding gas then pushes the piston out and the motor moves forward.

A diesel engine uses diesel fuel, different from gasoline, and the fuel is compressed by the piston until it ignites, sending the piston out. There are no spark plugs in a a diesel engine.

Some diesel engines will have "glow plugs" which are used to initially start the engine but once started, compressing the fuel is the method of ignition.

What happens during each of the four strokes in the cycle of an internal-combustion engine?

1) When the Piston travels down during the first stroke its called the "Suction stroke"as it sucks in Air.

2) Then the Piston travels upward during the Second Stroke which is known as "Compression Stroke" as it compresses the air of the first stroke. Because of the compression the temperature increases.

3. Just before the Piston reach the top the injector sprays fuel and the high temperature mixture burns and expands and the Piston again goes downwards due to pressure and volume.

4. As the Piston travels upward in the 4th stroke the exhaust valves open and the burnt exhaust goes out. So the 4th stroke is the exhaust stroke.

What are four different methods of driving a camshaft?

Gear drive

What causes diesel engines to smoke?

Black smoke from a diesel engine is caused by too much fuel in the air-fuel mixture, also called a "rich" mixture. This is generally caused by worn out fuel injectors.

Fuel is injected into diesel engines through very small holes (approximately Ø0.7mm) under very high pressure (over 1200 bar) in order to get good atomization. As the fuel flows. the hole erode, getting larger. Over time, the holes get large enough to let too much fuel through. Usually this happens in an over-the road truck around 100,000 miles.

What is part load in internal combustion engine?

"Part Load" is short for partial load.

"Load" is when the engine is doing work. Whatever work the engine is doing places a "load" on the engine which resists the engine's turning motion and slows the engine down so it requires more throttle to maintain speed.

"Partial load" is when the engine is doing work that would stall the engine at idle, but does not require full throttle, just partial throttle.

A good example would be a car traveling at highway speed or up a slight grade.

What is the difference between ignition system of piston and jet engine?

Gas turbine engines, including jet engines, have a capacitor discharge ignition system using one or more ignitor plugs, which are only used at startup or in case the combustor(s) flame goes out.

Ignition system of piston engines use spark plugs, distributor, coil and a battery.

What is the average temperature inside the combustion chamber of an internal combustion petrol engine?

Any where between 1500-3000 Fahrenheit (800-1700 Celsius)

Type in "Martin Vagn Hansen thesis" in Google, You will find his thesis on measuring flame temps in IC engines.

How do you turn off the check engine light on the dish?

in the fuse panel there's a reset button...with the key on hold the reset button till the check engine lite blicks then again to confirm you want to turn it off...hope that helps...cheers...you could always put a piece of black tape over it...

Where in the engine of a 305 engine is the power steering tube?

The power steering is a separate system to the engine. The power steering system consists of a pump, bolted to the engine. A steering box, bolted to the vehicals frame and two hoses carrying fluid back and forth between the two. There is no power steering hose "in" the engine.

Is there more power in petrol engine than diesel engine?

There is more energy in one gallon of diesel than one gallon of gasoline. To elaborate, the word "petrol" is defined in different ways in different places..... but if you have two internal combustion engines of the same displacement the diesel will produce more power than the gasoline engine, especially in 'torque' measurement

Do you need the twist cap on your gasoline tank to drive your car?

I do not think so and I think the primary use of a fuel tank cap is to prevent dirt from getting into the gas. Plug it with a rag (with the rag partially hanging out) until you can get a new one ( $7 @ Walmart )

AnswerThat is not a good answer.. never use a rag as it can ignite like a Molotov Cocktail... just drive a few minutes and buy a new one at like Autozone. You need a vented cap, but you need a cap. Otherwise you lose vacuum pressure and that is why on new cars it will trigger a service light to come on.

Yes!!!, it is illegal to not have a cap on the fuel tank.

===========================================================

The second answer is correct, but don't confuse a "vented cap" with a locking gas cap. The gas cap must seal and be air tight. Normal gas caps do not actually vent anything, which is why you get the pressure release when you unscrew your gas cap. (Also:Pressure can mean "PSI" or "vacuum")

What is better a diesel or petrol engine?

It's more a question of "different", than "better".

Petrol engines can have better power-to-weight ratios, while diesels are a little more efficient.

What affected the internal combustion engine have on transportation?

The internal combustion engine made possible, rapid, efficient and hence relatively (to predecessors) low-cost powered machinery. This applies in fixed plant and to the transport of people and goods over any from local to very long distances on land, at sea and in the air..

How many cubic inches in 4.8 liters?

There are 61.02 cubic inches per liter: 4.8 x 61.02 = 293 (292.896) cubic inches.

What is the engine size for Toyota GXL 5k engine?

If you mean the Toyota gxl liteace with 5k engine, it is 1496 cc for the gasoline or petrol feed engine.
