What scripture does it say abel built an altar?

The Bible doesn't say he built an altar. Genesis 4:4 says "Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering."

It is likely that he built an altar for his offering, but the Scripture doesn't specifically say so.

Do all Christian denominations have an altar?

No, not all. Some Baptist churches do not have an altar, for example.

What does God mean by many are called but few is chosen?

The annointed who go to heaven number 144K and are chosen by God to serve as kings and priests with Jesus (King of God's Kingdom). This implies that although many are chosen by God to serve with Jesus in Heaven, only a few will remain faithful to the end> It means that many are bapised into The Church but few will endure in faith, righteous, and good works in the Lord Jesus Christ, to the end. The parable of the sower, Matthew 13:3-9(King James Bible) signifies they who are prepared for the Word and those who are not; And it does illustrate why, "many are called but few are chosen". Matthew 7:21-27 is another collection of verses that indirectly relate to the question above, but more directly speak to those who think they can deceive the Lord with superficial works of righteousness and love and faith when in truth, their hearts are elsewhere and have their own agendas. Those who are poor in spirit, and or persecuted for righteousness sake (Matthew 5:3; 5:10) are two of numerous scriptures explaining how and who will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; And Matthew 5:20: "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.">

What happens in a Baptist church?

Baptist worship services are usually fairly simple and casual. Most churches will start out singing a few songs, followed by an opportunity to give, and then maybe a another song, usually there will be a congregational prayer led by the pastor, and then some scripture reading. Then the pastor will give a message based on the scripture and close with an invitation time in which the congregation is encourage to respond to the message either by speaking with the pastor or by praying up at the front of the church. All baptist churches are independent so every one worships a little bit differently, but this is a basic idea of what to expect.

What is a sacrifice to the Greeks?

In the New Testament the Greek words for "sacrifice" are either thusia, the noun form which has no meaning beyond "sacrifice, victim," and the verb form thuo, meaning "to sacrifice, to slay, kill, slaughter." Greek used the difference in form to distinguish between the victim and the act, while English uses only the one word "sacrifice" and depends on context to distinguish between them. There is no significant difference in the definition of the Greek words thusia and thuo and the English word "sacrifice," so the meaning is, "an offering to a deity in homage or propitiation (most often a ritually slaughtered animal or person); and the ritual act itself." The only exception in the Greek usage is found in the phrase "things sacrificed to idols" in Revelation 2:14 and 2:20, where that entire phrase is translated from the compound word eidolothuton, whose usage was, "sacrificed to idols; specifically the flesh left over from heathen sacrifices" (which was eaten at the public feasts or sold in the market).

Compare Buddhism and Hinduism?

The essential difference is that Hinduism is a belief system that requires faith, and Buddhism is a system of separating what we can know with relative certainty from what are assumptions, and basing our actions on those certainties instead of faith.

Hinduism is a word assigned by Westerners to a variety of belief systems that grew out of ancient Vedism, and involves identifying oneself as having an "atman" (Westerners translate as "soul") that is part of a larger All Being (Brahma); that our atman transmigrates life to life until we purify ourselves enough to gain knowledge that makes the situation clear, then we can become one with Brahma and end the cycle of reincarnation (also known as "samsara").

The Buddha denied that there was an eternal, unchanging "atman". His teaching was grounded in what we can do in this life to relieve suffering. He showed us ways to see for ourselves just how we cause our own problems, and offered a set of skills to see this more accurately and get past it.

How are judaism and Christianity in the same way?

Judaism and Islam are not the same. They are similar in that they share the same forefather Abraham- and believe in one god- after that they split 180 degrees... Key differences 1. Jews do not believe in forced conversion- If you want to be a Jew cool come on in and we'll show you how it goes, if not- no problemo- keep your religion it's cool with us! 2. In judaism All good people go to heaven- You do not need to accept Christ/Allah or any other god to go to heaven, if you are a good person Christian/muslim/buddhist etc..., you'll have a spot in the fluffy white clouds- Period. 3. Jewish woman can learn, work, decide who they marry, and wear what they want- There is the idea of modesty of course, but no one woman gets hurt if she decides to show some 'elbow' Oh yeah and western civilization- we don't mind that either- in fact we embrace it! Go modern technology! Answer: Muslims and Jews both pray more than one time everyday; Jews pray 3 times while Muslims pray 5 times, in the direction of Mecca.

How do you resolve misunderstandings in work place?

Face to face, in a professional and respectful manner. Resolving an issue often times requires compromise. Approaching the other person to attempt a resolution may be the most difficult part. Be tactful. Acknowledge the other person's point of view and suggest a private opportunity to discuss the issues, and keep it private.

You need to do it right the first time as there will most likely not be a 2nd opportunity if you blow it the first time.

How is the Jews god different from the Christian god?

Actually, Christians view God very much the same way the Jewish people do. Christians believe that God is the One God and creator of all things. Christians also believe that Israel are God's choosen people, and that salvation came first for the Jews and then by the Jews. If it had not been for the Jewish people, the Gentiles(which make up the majority of christians) would not have been ushered into God's plan. The Old Testament portion of the Bible is broadly agreed upon by most Jewish people and christians. The differences arise when it comes to the New Testament portion of the Bible. The Christians are followers of Jesus Christ, whom they believe was the promised Messiah, and saviour of all humanity. The Jews however, although they acknowledge Jesus existed, do not except Him as such. The Jewish people believe that the promise of a Messiah has yet to be fulfilled, The Christians believe the promise was fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Why did God choose a Jew to be Jesus Christ?

Born of a Jewish mother, a son is automatically Jewish. Simple heritage, inherent ethnic nature.

What is the difference between Methodist and nondenominational?

Methodists are a little more traditional in their ceremonies (communion, reciting the Lord's prayer, etc.), but the belief system is the same. Baptisms are similar, but with the same ceremonious differences (Methodism being more formal than non-denominationalism)

It's really just a question of formalities

Why does judaism differ from islam?

Answer ABoth believe in a single God, called HaShem by the Jews and Allah by Muslims. Biggest difference is that Islam follows the teachings of Prophet Mohammad from his holy book the Quran (Koran). Jews continue to follow the teachings of the Tanach and do not recognize the Quran as a holy book. Another difference is that Islam teaches that it is a good thing to let people know about Islam religion and its fundamentals such that they can make their choice of faith on sound grounds and correct information. Judaism does not teach that. Instead, Jews actually make it difficult to convert to Judaism and require anywhere from 1-6 years of study so that a potential convert has full knowledge and understanding of what they are committing to before the convert. Answer BSince Judaism predates Islam by approximately 2000 years, the real question is how does Islam differ from Judaism.

Examples of ways that Islam is different from Judaism are:

  • Islam believes in the existence of the devil and hell, Judaism doesn't believe in the existence of either.
  • Islam accepts both Jesus and Muhammad as prophets while Judaism doesn't accept either.
  • Islam's main religious text is the Qu'ran which isn't considered a valid religious text for Jews according to the teachings of Judaism.
  • Islam forbids the consumption or handling of any items that come from a pig while in Judaism, pigs are just one of countless animals that are not allowed as food animals.
  • Islam forbids the consumption of alcohol in any form while Judaism uses certain alcoholic drinks as part of worship and does not prohibit the consumption of any alcohol unless it doesn't meet the requirements of the Jewish dietary laws.

Additionally, one of the most fundamental differences between Islam and Judaism is that Islam calls for submission to G-d. In direct contrast, Judaism requires its followers to always question everything, the basis for this being the many times in the Tanach (Jewish Bible) that the prophets argued with G-d.

Muslim Perspective Just two comments on the good information under Answer B above:
  1. Islam in its root sense means full submission to God (same God in Judaism and Christianity). In this context, Islam dates back to the universe creation date and was the message of all God prophets since Adam through Noah,..., Abraham,..., Moses, ..., Jesus, and Muhammad; peace be upon them. However, Islam per Torah revelation to Moses is called Judaism, Islam per Bible revelation to Jesus is called Christianity, and Islam per Quran revelation to Muhammad is called same name Islam.
  2. Pig; is in Judaism; is forbidden as food animal and nothing else. For example surgery threads may be fabricated from pig tissues and used by Muslim physicians and patients.

Are non-Catholic churches Protestant Churches?

No. The Catholic Church is the church established by Jesus Christ Himself. All other churches were founded by men. Martin Luther, a Catholic monk, wanted to reform the Catholic church because of some irregularities in it. However, he never intended to start another church. Since he protested against certain things happening in the Church, we call what happened the Protestant Reformation. But, it did not reform the Church, it started a new one. Now there are about 40,000 different denominations of Christian churches. Some still protest against the Catholic Church. Others protest against other Christian churches.

There are many similarities in mainline protestant churches among themselves and with the Catholic Church. The main one is the use of the Bible, a Catholic book, which is used by all protestant churches. The main fallacy that divides other Christians from Catholic Christians is Luther's claim of being saved by faith alone. The word "alone" does NOT appear in the Bible passage Luther supposedly quoted. However, in James 2:24, the Bible does say ,"Man is justified by works and NOT by faith alone." James 2:17 says, Faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead."

Catholicism teaches that it is by grace alone that we are saved and that both faith and works are necessary for salvation.

Who is archbishop david bell?

Archbishop David Bell was consecrated a Catholic Bishop by His Beatitude; Patriarch Luis Fernando Castillo Mendez; Patriarch of Brazil for over 62 years; he in turn was consecrated in 1948 as a bishop by the Roman Catholic Archbishop Carlos Duarte Costa of Brazil who resigned to the Holy see to Pope Pius XI in 1937. He was appointed as titular bishop of Maura by Pope Pius XII. Before Vatican II was established.

The Roman Catholic Archbishop Duarte Costa then some 8 years later that is in 1945 founded the Brazilian Catholic Church which has flourished and flourishes today.

David Bell was also appointed by Patriarchal Bull by His Beatitude as Secretary of Doctrine and Faith of the Brazilian Catholic Church. He is the first ever non Brazilian bishop to be appointed to such a position from the established church in its existence.

He was also elevated by His Beatitude; Patriarch Castillo Mendez as a "Cardinal" of the Igreja catolica apostolica Brasileira. its first ever Cardinal for the United Kingdom in a Patriarchal Bull; which is on his website www.splxiii.com.

A position that Patriarch Mendez holds David Bell in great esteem for his knowledge understanding and wisdom. There is no question that David Bell and any bishop consecrated by him is a valid Catholic Bishop in a pure Roman Catholic Apostolic Succession.

David Bell only uses the Tridentine Rite and the Roman Pontifical Pre Vatican II.

His Beatitude; Patriarch Castillo Mendez was a Roman Catholic Priest before being consecrated by the Roman Catholic Archbishop Duarte Costa.

What is Unitarian Universalism?

Where in the Bible is the phrase four score and ten located?

The phrase "fourscore and ten" does not appear in any translation of the Bible that I've been able to find. The American Standard Version and the King James Version do use the archaic term "score", meaning "twenty".

Example from Psalms 90:10: The days of our years are threescore years and ten (that would total 70 years); and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years (that would total 80 years), yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Beginning with the now-iconic phrase "Four score and seven years ago," Abraham Lincoln's GettysburgAddress referred to the events of the American Revolution and described the ceremony at Gettysburg as an opportunity not only to dedicate the grounds of a cemetery, but also to consecrate the living in the struggle to ensure that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

When did Anglican start?

The Anglican Church, also called the Church of England, was started by Henry VIII was refused a divorce from his second wife Anne Boleyn by Pope Clement VII

Henry was refused an annulment but he did not found any Church, that is an error at the least.

The Anglican Church was the Catholic Church in Britain and its foundation was in Jerusalem in the Upper Room,[Acts.] . It was brought to Britain within a short while of the events recorded there and S.Dorotheus of Tyre, [S.& Martyr,] tells us it was brought by S.Simon Zelotes, Brother of Our Lord and the first Bishop was Aristobulos, friend of S.Paul , [Ep.Romans,] and brother of S. Bartholomew the Apostle!

Is it wrong for a Catholic to go to a Baptist church?

I don't think it's actually wrong per se. I mean just to visit, it's fine, and can be a very educational experience. You see I'm a baptist, and I go to a Catholic school, and get to know how they see things, and I invite my friends to come to Wednesday night Bible school. Neither of us has any plans of converting to the other's domination, but its still a good experience.

AnswerCatholics can only fulfill their Sunday obligation by attending Mass on Sunday at a Catholic Church, preformed by a Catholic priest. While educating oneself on other denominations beliefs and structures is not forbidden, attendance at their services and meetings is frowned upon since doctrines and attitudes that are foreign and even contrary to the Catholic Faith are liable to be encountered. Many Catholics have not sufficiently studied their own faith and can easily be taken in by the social aspects and enthusiasm of such events. Particularly, the Protestant emphasis on Bible alone and private interpretation is often encountered and Catholics that have not studied their Faith will find themselves overwhelmed and often must accept the Bible alone premise to even just attend the meetings. Since the way of action determines the way of belief and vice versa, Catholics can become Protestant in their outlook very fast. For this reason, the Church forbids Catholics to engage in such events, although many leaders, in the modern spirit of inter-faith dialogue, may dispute this. Answer:No, it is not wrong for a Catholic to go to a Baptist church service. It is, however, wrong for a Baptist to go to a Catholic church service.

Comment on the above: It is not wrong for a Baptist to go to a Catholic church, but very few would choose to do so.

What does it mean to venerate the cross?

The "Veneration of the Cross" is a specific ceremony in the Good Friday liturgy as well as a simple devotional practice that can be preformed by the faithful.

Venerating a cross is simply the humble act of kissing a crucifix. It must be a crucifix and not a bare cross; if the body of Jesus Christ - called a "corpus" - is not represented on the cross, then this is not a crucifix and you cannot therefore make a true veneration. In many modern churches a bare cross is used in the Good Friday service; this is an erroneous practice. During a Good Friday service, when it is time in the ceremony, people line up to venerate the cross just as they would do if they were going to Communion.

If you have a crucifix at home and out of personal devotion you kiss it, this is also properly called a veneration of the cross. The customary place to venerate the cross is the feet of the corpus. During a Good Friday service, if you have an open wound or sickness that can be communicated by the mouth, you may venerate the cross by placing your right hand upon the feet of the corpus for a moment.

There is one exception to rule above when a cross can properly be used in place of a crucifix: any cross that contains a relic of the true cross - that is an actual piece of the cross Jesus Christ died upon at Calvary - does not have to have a corpus upon it. The correct way to venerate this type of rare cross is to kiss the glass reliquary behind which the fragment is visible. If no reliquary is visible, the exact spot for veneration is not important, though kissing the foot of the cross is customary.

DISAGREE

During the Good Friday Liturgy of the Catholic Faith, Veneration of the Cross IS ONLY supposed to be a cross, NOT a crucifix. The accompany intonation is "Behold the WOOD of the Cross".

What is the main difference between Judaism and Christianity?

Someone wrote:

There are 330 millon gods in hinduism where in christianity there is one.

Hinduism believes in One God and many forms. Christians do not believe that the One God has many forms.

We agree and add:

In Christianity, God is something separate; Hinduism sees God in God´s creation. There is a Veda vakya (sacred recital) - Purnath Purnamudachyate - meaning ALL comes from GOD.

Christianity is mans´ creation. Hindism is God´s creation.

Christianity is propogated by man. Hinduism is maintained by God.

There are many jewels as scriptures in Hinduism, a few still unexplored my man. There is a single jewel as scripture in Christianity called Testament. Already there is alteration in the testament since the Old Testament has been polished into the New Testament.

Christianity is still growing: The Gnostic, The Jewish, The Pauline, The Eastern Orthodox, The Roman Catholic, The Protestant, The Anglican, The Calvinist, The Arminianist, The Baptist, The Lutheran, The Pentecostal, The Mormons, The Seventh-Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Science, The Coptic church, and hundreds more of denominations which are still coming. But, it is nothing as yet, comparable to the types of theologically finely definable divisions as in Hinduism. The Hinduism is in grown form.
