Can the Intel i7 920 be used in a laptop?
Let me answer this question in a couple of ways that may be relevant to the intent of your question.
First, yes, the Core i7-920 CPU may be used in a laptop, just as any other CPU may. All that is required is that the motherboard be designed for it and have the ability to dissipate the heat it generates effectively.
Next, can you replace your current CPU with a Core i7-920 in your laptop? Probably not. The laptop was designed around a certain CPU and the i7-920 is probably beyond its operational specifications in regard to the amount of power supplied for the CPU's operations, the ability to dissipate the heat generated by its operation (take note of the size of the heatsink and fan that come from the factory with the i7-920), and the fact that the desired CPU requires an LGA-1366 socket in which to mount. Most modern laptop CPUs are soldered to the motherboard and therefore not field-replaceable, most definitely not field-upgradeable. To remove the CPU that is surface-mounted requires special equipment and training, not something you can pick up in the garage or high school computer club.
The best advice that I can give you is what I give to my clients: if you want to upgrade your laptop's CPU, upgrade your laptop to a newer model. (This is also part of my issue with game consoles: the technology inside them is "stuck" at that level until a new console comes out to supersede it. Glory be to desktop computers!)
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a line. If you happen to be in northeastern Kansas, let me know and I will be glad to speak with you through my store.

Is it a 'surge protector' or a 'surge suppressor'?
Both are fairly apt descriptions of the device's function, and are generally interchangeable. They "suppress" surges by attempting to regulate the power flow to devices connected to them. They "protect" the devices from destruction up to and including its own demise.
Why do cheerleaders need hardware?
Cheerleaders need hardware, such as pom-poms, uniforms, and safety gear, to enhance their performances and ensure safety. Pom-poms add visual flair and energy to routines, while uniforms create a cohesive team identity. Safety gear, like mats and protective equipment, helps prevent injuries during stunts and tumbles. Overall, the right hardware supports both the aesthetics and safety of cheerleading activities.
What happens when you ping 127.0.0.1 with two NIC cards installed?
Nothing in particular. Remember, 127.0.0.1 (localhost) is assigned to an internal pseudo-NIC called a "loopback device." 1,2, or a hundred more network cards are just bound to additional addresses and respond to requests made on them.

What is the command to switch between the CUI mode to GUI mode and vice versa?
A GUI is typically not operated using text commands, so your question makes little sense. To start the "GUI" on most Unix and Linux systems, you need to launch the X server. Most systems include a simple script, "startx", that will do everything automatically for you. You can also launch the name of the display manager, such as KDM or GDM, manually. When you start the GUI, you are, of course, expected to actually use a GUI, not the command line. Most interfaces will provide some sort of button or link for you to click and shut down the system or exit to the command prompt.

Yes, dependent on CPU...I have just put a Core2Duo from a PGA478m into a PGA479m board, and the Celeron that was in the 479 into the 478.

You would change the wireless adapter when it no longer works or you want to use a newer standard. Sometimes you might want to install a different one when you need a longer range or want to install one that uses an external antenna.
