Importance of computer in medical field?

The situation at hand is complicated one, I do give you that. But not complicated enough not to be analyzed, with every aspect in mind. Erma Schegloff is a lonely instructor, who's dedicated to her job and as well as to her students. Who is lusted over by an ex-prisoner, who sat on death row, wrongly accused of crimes he did not commit.

Erma Schegloffs childhood was a horrible one and it shows psychologically. From the abandonment of her father always working, to her mother just yelling obscenely "You kids make me sick!" (Oakes 2008) While her brothers who were supposed to protect her verbally abusing her and hitting her. She's a lonely woman due to not having a real family life. Her fascination with Arno C. Kethy is caused by all the interest he has in her and his openness to her in his essays. Of course, she ignores all warning signs, she's curious to see what he's about. Especially, what he wants with her. There is a chance something bad can happen to her in the future, but odds are nothing will.

What is the safe limit of exposure to cat scans and brain scans in 6 months?

Well, I just went to my gastroentorologist yesterday & asked the same question. The response, "The is no safe radiation". Unfortunately, that's the guideline you'll probably receive from most medical practitioners because no studies have ever been done that found some kind of 'tipping' point.

Can people with pacemakers have an MRI and a Cat Scan?

People with pacemakers can have any CT scan. The answer for MRI is changing now. Older pacemakers were not MRI compatible. There are new pacemakers being installed that are MRI compatible (up to a certain size MRI strength). When you had your pacemaker installed, you should have received a card telling the technologist about your pacemaker and if it is safe to enter the MRI that will be used. If you did not get the card or have lost that card contact the office of the doctor that put your pacemaker in and ask them and also request another card.

Is robert ledley the inventor of the cat scan?

Like many other advances in science, invention of the CT scanner was not a singular event, but the product of advances at the forefront of science and technology. Ledley's greatest contributions to science, in fact, occurred decades before when he laid out the principles of applying computers in medicine (See: Reasoning Foundation of Medical Diagnosis) and computerized image analysis. When computers became sufficiently powerful to allow reconstruction of transferse images, Ledley was in the forefront, along with Godfrey Hounsfield in developing such machines. Hounsfield's machine was first, but very limited in its applications since it could not effectively reconstruct images including air or bone. Ledley's machine built on his previous success in building computers for pattern recognition and image analysis, and used mathematical algorithms developed by Allan Cormack. The Ledley machine (termed the ACTA) was the first that could effectively image large portions of the body, and he received the patent for this invention.

Grid controlled X ray tube?

a grid is a device placed in front of the image receptor which only allows xrays to travel directly through from the tube and prevent xrays which have been "scattered" from passing through to the image. This gives a much clearer resulting image. Grids are generally only used on thicker body parts where scattered xrays are more of an issue

What does the word impression mean on the bottom of a ct scan report?

The final paragraph is many times labeled as "impression". At most places I have worked this is a simplified breakdown of the whole report. Many times this is easier to understand for people not in the medical field, and many times this is where your doctor will look to get the Radiologist's final "impression" of the whole study.

Do you have to get a shot when you go in for a cat scan for pneumonia?

You never have to have medical care if you don't want it and are an adult, but it probably is not wise to avoid care that is ordered for you. If a shot is recommended by your health care professional, you should probably take it. If it is ordered by your health care professional and your parent says to do what the doctor says, you need to do what the doctor says, if you are a minor. It may be that they want you to get a vaccination to prevent some types of pneumonia, that you may not have now, but could get as a secondary infection...this would be a very good idea. It may also be that they are wanting to give you a shot of an antibiotic to treat pneumonia or to prevent it from developing with another infection or condition. Or you may have to have an injection of contrast ("dye") for the CT scan make a better picture.

If you have to get a shot, see the related questions below about how to make a shot not hurt. Relax, and follow your doctors (and parent's) orders.

More from another WikiAnswers contributor about CT scan use in pneumonia:

If its just a pneumonia you wouldn't need a CT scan but scans are done in pneumonia to detect complications such as abscess formation or to look for an underlying cause such as tumor. These show up better if contrast agent is injected and would be essential for tumor staging. Very rarely people are allergic to the contrast and then a scan without contrast is better than nothing.
