I spent a summer living in Pasadena, Texas when I was younger. The Mexican family that were are neighbors took me in and their mom was always feeding me some sort of awesome home cooked Mexican meal. Three things she always had on hand was homemade tortillas, beans of some sort, and salsa.

You need lots of Ballet. I recommend starting at a very young age if you want to be professional. Jazz is also a good dance style to have under your belt if you want to be a dancer. If your looking at being a Musical Theater dancer then you NEED to have tap. You never know when you could be asked to tap dance.

Flexibility is very important to avoid injuries during activities. Also, a lot of things ballet dancers do require flexibility. You can become better at everything from arabesques to leaps with more flexibility.
However you don't necessarily need to be flexible to start ballet. Improving flexibility is relatively easy compared to improving strength or extension or turnout.
