Whats the main difference between access and sql server?

SQl Server is a server based database. Access is used as local database.Access is used for small desktop size databases used by less then 5 users at the same time. It has a front end gui system to design applications quickly. SQL Server is a more robust system and is able to handle large amounts of users as well as data sizes. There is no front end gui system so it will require other development tools (Visual Studios, .NET, VB, C++, ect.).

What circumstances might require data recovery to be attempted at your site?

There are many reasons why one might require data recovery services. Some of the common reasons are:

* hard drive failure * virus that wipes out hard drive * overwritten files * flood/fire damage * physical trauma to hard drive * RAID corruption * accidental deletion of files * deletion of data on memory card/stick * power failure * operating system failure

Difference between forms and reports in ms access?

Forms

Reports

Forms are sometimes referred to as "data entry screens."

Reports are used to summarize and present data in the tables

Most database users prefer to use forms for viewing, entering, and editing data in the tables.

Each report can be formatted to present the information in the most readable way possible

You can change the values of underlying data with a form.

You cannot change the value of the underlying data for a report with a control object from the toolbox as you can with forms

Forms provide datasheet view.

Reports do not provide a Datasheet view. Only Print Preview and Report Design views are available.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Selective Repeat protocol in comparison with Go-Back-N?

Using the Go Back N protocol for error control means that if a timeout occurs, then all unacknowledged packets are resent, where with selective repeat, only those packets that were unacknowledged. This allows the Go Back N to use cumulative acknowledgements, creating a faster data flow, but this also means that in the case of an interruption, the system is slower to recognize this and then time is lost for the retransmission since the last cumulative ack.

The different between cold and warm start?

Cold boot, also called a hard boot, is starting your computer from a completely shut down state. You turn the machine on when it has no electricity running.

Warm boot, or a soft boot, is nothing more that using the restart function - you don't shut the power off, you use the software to restart so the operating system.

Advantages of rdbms and any aptitude questions on rdmbs are available?

Advantages : 1. Uses OOPs concept. 2. Highly secured 3. Multiple users can access which is not possible in DBMS. 4. It is relational. 5. Avoids data redundancy problems using NORMAL FORMS 6. It performs all DML operations which is not possible with ordineray DBMS (it performs only INSERT n RETRIEVE) 7. Supports data Independence. 8. finally it supports DDBMS concepts too and so on.

What is the difference between fields records files and databases?

A database is a whole load of data set onto a database, it is possible to have more than one database. A field is a record part and the record is the total part. A field is like: first name is a field, last name is another field., Mr/Mrs is another field, the whole records is all of the fields relating to a person. Like the address, the town, the postcode, etc.

Translation of global queries to fragment queris?

It has six specific rule to be precise.....

1)Use impotence of selection and projection to generate appropriate selections and projections for each operand relation.

2)Push selections and projections down in the tree as far as possible.

3)push selections down to the leaves of the tree, and then apply them using the algebra of qualified relations; substitute the selection result with the empty relation if the qualification of the result is contradictory.

4)Use the algebra of qualified relations to evaluate the qualification of operands of joins; substitute the subtree, including the join and its operands, with the empty relation if the qualification of the result of join is contradictory.

5)In order to distribute joins which appear in the global query, unions must be pushed up,beyond the joins that we want to distribute.

6)In order to distribute grouping and aggregate function evaluations appearing in a global query, unions must be pushed up,beyond the corresponding group-by operation.

What is the difference between the different types of storage systems?

The three I am familiar with are FAT16, FAT12, FAT32, NTFS, and HFS.

FAT16 is an early windows and DOS filesystem. It is a sequential volume (meaning each partition must be 'single piece' and cannot be split) and cannot be changed in size or location while active under normal circumstances. It has a maximum partition size I believe of 4 GB.

FAT12 is a simpler filesystem used in floppy disks, designed for optimum efficiency for disks up to 5 MB, but most typically used for 1.44 MB floppy disks (3")

FAT32 is a next-gen filesystem used by DOS and Windows 95/98/ME, and compatible with many other operating systems. It has a limit of, I believe, 12 GB and is more efficient and faster than FAT16.

NTFS or 'New Technology File System' is used by Windows NT, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2k, Windows Vista, and onward. It is a very common filesystem that shares many similarities to FAT32, but also supports many new features. It is much more efficient and supports cluster sizes up to 4096 bytes, and is faster and more robust. I believe it has a limit of 4 Terabytes or more, but I'm unsure.

HFS is commonly used by Unix, Linux, and Macintosh systems. Unlike the previous, it is a non-sequential volume structure, meaning the volume may be split into pieces across the disk, and resized while operating with little risk of error. It is less prone to file fragmentation and is designed for rapid heirarchy of file structures.
