Why cutting down trees is harmful for the environment?

It causes a lot of issues all around, starting with replenishment of the forest:
It takes years for trees to fully grow (20 years and beyond, upwards to 50 to 100 years before they're mature enough to be harvested again). Second, trees absorb water in the soil in their roots so they can continue to grow, without trees to absorb water, the soil becomes saturated and weak, this can cause mud and land slides, as well as damage the soil so things can't grow anymore. Then animals which make shelter out of those trees (birds, critters, and bugs), this causes their natural predators (think of the food chain) to be displaced also. Another thing too is trees act as "filters" for our air, absorbing harmful toxins in the air like carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Taking away trees takes away nutrients from the soil, as the leaves fall down in the fall, they decompose, adding nutrients to the soil...
So when you see people upset about deforestation, you can understand further as to why it is an issue...

Are American forests disappearing?

Environmentalists recognize that the total amount of woodland in the United States is not contracting--new plantings more than offset cuttings.

How do cutting down trees increase CO2 in the air?

Because trees take in CO2 and let out oxygen. so the CO2 in them comes out when u cut them down. and the machines you use probably use gasoline.

Why does cutting down a forest increase global warming while planting a new forest decreases it?

Trees convert CO2 in to organic material. CO2 is a green house gas and prevent heat to escape from earth causing earth temperature or so called global warming. So cutting trees will increase CO2 in atmosphere and vice versa.

What will happen if you will go on cutting trees for projects?

if we will go on cutting trees ,there will be no oxygen to live ultimately one day we will die .it will lead to the increase in the global temperature.it will lead to droughts, famine, water shortage ,soil erosion, land degration and finally one day life will be finished.

Who has the right to cut trees down?

Yes. If they claim the land, they can do with it what is legally allowable by their government.

Similar to being able to cut down trees in your yard. Some communities require approval before the removal of trees, while others don't care.

Why should new trees be planted when trees are cut down?

the idea is to replace what we took. So some people and inc. plant one new tree for every one they cut down to keep the population of trees plentiful and to keep whole forests from vanishing all together.

Why cutting the rainforest down is good?

This is very ez The disadvantages are: * there will be little oxygen in the world * trees take a long time to grow * animals who live at that specific tree will have to move to another tree * animals will lose habitats * animals will become endangered * rainforests will become endangered * done

Could a forest fire hurt the animals in the forest?

Why shouldn't we cut down trees?

It is harmful to cut down trees because we breathe out Carbon Dioxide and the trees clean it through there leaves and with out them we would be breathing bad air. Also that is why lots of people get colds in winter because the trees dont have leaves.

Why the rainforest are depleting?

Rainforests are primarily cut down or burned by humans to clear land for agriculture and cattle pasture (by burning), timber harvesting for furniture or other products (by cutting). Rainforests may also be cleared for mining or roadbuilding.

A:The two main causes of deforestation in South America are the claiming of lands for agriculture and the exploitation for wood products and by-products.

Large areas of rainforest and other green areas are burnt each week or leveled with machines for agriculture and cattle. Many international food companies contribute to this problem, purchasing large areas of rainforest and transforming it for hosting thousands of heads of cattle for supplying their worldwide needs, most often through paper companies. Satellite imaging shows day after day large areas on fire by human hands.

Many legal and many illegal wood processing enterprises go further and further into green areas chopping down and processing large trees and destroying the minor vegetation in their way.

Local governments have tried to impose some limitations but corruption is a problem.

Pollution, mining, farming, and logging (cutting down trees) have all helped to cause the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

A:Much of it is cut down illegally in the Amazon basin and SE Asia because there is great demand for the timber in developed countries. The work is largely done by poor peasants who know of no other way of feeding their families. They work for logging companies and the palm oil growers (In the Amazon, cattle farmers.) who move in when the land has been stripped. About half the world's rainforest has been cleared. As tropical timbers such teak are becoming scarce, their price is increasing and profits are rising. Official corruption also plays its part. Most of the peasants who cut down the forests understand that deforestation has reached a point where it threatens the health of the planet, but they are trapped in a cycle of poverty that leaves them with no choice. A:The Amazon rainforest is being cut down for a range of things; including wood, gold, tin, hydro-electricity, & farming agriculture. A:Rainforests and other forests are being cut down for their timber, and also to provide grazing space for cattle. The world has a huge demand for beef.

How many animals die each day from the Rainforest being cut down?

A survey across the world this year and last year found that there was over 23 million killed each year.

(Comment on this: This figure is impossibly low, particularly when insects are considered. I think it's a safe bet that more than this number of insects are killed when a single acre of rainforest land is destroyed).

Why should people care about the rainforest?

Because of the sources that cannot be found anywhere else in the world such as: medicine, plants, animals, trees, retiles, amphibians, soils and minerals. If we carry on the way we are, these source will be extinct.

Why do you have protect your forest?

It is necessary to protect the forest for several reasons. The forest is important as a vital part of the world's nature. Many types ofanimals live in the forest and find their food there. The forest produces the oxygen that we breath.
