How do you set the cam timing on a v6 2.7 liter Dodge Intrepid?

The marks on the chain and the sprockets are set in such a way that the chain is installed at 50 deg after tdc. This is done so that the pistons are not at tdc where they could hit the valves while trying to install the chain. The marks are the only thing after tdc. When the chain is installed properly, the valves and pistons will be in proper time and the valves will be closed when the piston is at tdc. All you have to do is ine up the plated links on the chain with the proper marks on the sprockets.

When the marks on the chain and the marks on the sprockets are lined up the piston is after tdc. This is how it is supposed to be.

Buy a service manual and follow the directions step by step.

The piston is not At top when marks are lined up.

On a 2.7L, when the timing marks are lined up the piston is not at top dead center. It is about 50 deg past top.

AnswerWhen you removed the pump, how much tension was in your chain? That chain stretches real bad due to engine overheating, even though it will be normal on your gauges in the cab. follow the procedure below, but if your chain has stretched, replacee it. Its best to replace the chain anyway. Also check the oilpump when you check for spark and its quite imperative that you keep the right amout of oil all the time. set both your camshafts to 90degrees with the cylinder head and cover mating surfaces, using the little punched holes as your guides. Set cylinder number one to TDC and align the chain marks on the gears as follows:

The two colored pieces of chain go on the right, and the the left gear and the crankshaft sprocket get one each. Reset your tensioner before reinstalling it or it will fail dismally. Rotete the engine using the crankshaft about three complete revolutions until the timing marks are back to were you set them. Before you close your engine, install the sparkplugs into the boots, but not into the block, then crank your engine and check for spark. If they spark you are good to go. If not remove the camshaft position sensor and try again. If they spark without the sensor in, the rotate you right camshafts by 180 degrees and try again. when working fine, installation is the reverse of the removal.

note, be sure your tensioner is fully reset or you will trhow away your engine like an ex-spouse. signed: mr Houston. mr Houston.

The half moon cut out on the crank sprocket aligns with the arrow on the oil pump housing. If you don't have service manual with a sufficent picture you need to go get one. This timing chain is very complicated.

Any tips on how to adjust bands and linkages on 2001 astro transmission?

"bands" are not adjustable. I don't think they have bands any more, just clutch packs and they're hydraulic. Once they're worn out, they're gone. There are probably some shift linkages that might be adjustable but you'll just need to climb around to see what you can find.

Where is the coolant on 96 Dodge Intrepid going when there is no leak?

It could be going into the crankshaft or it could be going into a cylinder. It would go out the exhaust and be turned into steam and water vapor. You would not see the water vapor. It will ruin the engine unless you get it fixed real soon.

Why will a '95 Dodge Intrepid just click when trying to start half the time then after a few tries turn over?

SOUNDS LIKE THE STARTER CONTACTS HAVE WORN DOWN. THEY ARE INEXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. THE PROBLEM WILL GET WORSE UNTIL THE STARTER CANNOT MAKE CONTACT AT ALL AND WON'T START.

AnswerI have a 97 Intrepid 3.5 that had the same sympoms. A faulty power cable that connects the battery to the "under the hood" fuse box was corroded. It looked as though it was manufactured to give out. The cable widened in diameter for a couple of inches as it intered the fuse box. There is a small hole that let water in that eventually caused the malfunction. at that the that way so Dodge could get a few extra dollars to replace it for 180 dollars. I said hell with that. They found it and I just spliced into it, pulled it apart (because its a male/female connection underneath the rubber sheilding), wire brushed the corrosion away, and electrical taped it back together. I was out 5 minutes and a 10 stretch of electrical tape. To hell with that 180 dollars they wanted.

How do you retreive engine codes for 2002 Dodge Intrepid?

With a OBD2 scan tool. The ODB2 Sacn tool is the best way. Most scan tools will explain what the code is. To get just the codes, insert the ignition key, turn it from "off" to the "on" position three times ending in the "on" postion. Do this rather quickly, one second for each position. (DO NOT START THE CAR) It should display the codes using the odometer digital display. Have a paper and pencil handy incase there are multiple codes. Of course you'll have to search the web for what the codes mean. Google will give you many results to weed through. Good luck!

How do you remove air filter housing on a 2000 intrepid?

It is quite the pain to remove, but real easy. Push in the two clips on the lid and lift it up, Loosen the screw on the fastener and lift the lid higher and it should slip right off. Lift the housing on the side with the one clip type thing that looks like a nipple and pull up. This is the part that is a pain, it takes a good amount of force for it to come off. Once it does, slide the whole thing towards the engine and it should come right off. Just do the reverse to replace it.

How do you change the coolant air bleeder valve on a 2003 Dodge Intrepid?

Ok, assuming the 03 has similar properties and you are dealing with the same engine I just did.. the 2.7 on an 02. Drain and recover coolant, I am picky like that. Remove the hose clamp from the radiator hose that connects into the front of the bleed housing. Disconnect the electrical connector that goes into it all, on the right. I think it is a temp sensor. Remove the two screws from the front of he housing this will allow you to pull out the metal tube, it will collide on the right don't worry it bends back. It has an O-ring on it that will come in the kit from NAPA 56 bux. Don't disconnect the crossover tube to/on the back to the back of the motor to the heater housing, there should be some flex, if it doesn't pop out it will after you loosen the intake. Here is where it gets intimidating, there are eight bolts or so that hold the intake down, remove them but leave the intake in place.. you just want enough to pry the intake up to gain access to the next few bolts. If the intake does not move easily you missed a bolt. Do NOT force it. Ok, intake is loose, remove the two accessible bolts from the housing, then pry the intake enough to get your socket in there, it is tight but possible, the back two. I moved the intake about 3/4 inch to get at them. Put your new bleed air on have a buddy hold the intake up while you put the bolts back in, do the front two first, do not tighten them until you have the back two in. You want the assembly to "float" not to cross thread the bolts when you start them. Tighten the four bolts on the housing. Lower the intake and the rest is just putting the bolts back in. Reassemble and double check the intake bolts, clamps, electrical connection, etc.. I replaced the two front bolts on the housing with 4mm .70 tp Allen heads, and double clamped the radiator hose with user friendly hose clamps to help when it breaks again they were a pain in the butt. As this is a common issue with this design I wanted to have an easier time of it. Put your coolant in, start, BLEED the air.. It may take once or twice of cycling the coolant but be patient it will come around, but get the air out or you will create more problems. It is a closed system and will need it lest your heater will not work or be intermittent. Hope this helps. SS68396331@AOL.com.
