How do you sell a car on eBay?

Once you have chosen an item that you want to sell, check out what similar items have sold for recently by using the "completed listings" search feature.

This will give you an idea of how much you item might sell for or even if it might sell at all.

If you then decide to go ahead and create your listing (which is what they call writing your ad) take a very clear photo of the item and either save it to your computer or upload it to a host.

Log into eBay and select the "sell" tab and then use either the quick sell form or the advanced sell your item form. Write your listing (or "ad") and upload the photo or photos of your item.

You can preview your listing to make sure that you are happy with it. If it doesn't look quite right go back and edit it.

When you are sure that it is just as you want you will be shown the insertion fee for you listing. If you are still happy with things so far you can upload the listing and it will go live - this can happen within few minutes or it can take around 24 hours for designer items.

When the auction has ended (or your buyer has hit the Buy It Now button), they will pay you and you need to ship the item to them.

What does it mean watcher on eBay?

When buyers find items they are interested in they often click the "watch this item" button.

This basically bookmarks the item so that buyers can check on it at a later time.

They are not necessarily bidders of any kind; a watcher simply will watch an item for many different reasons and none of them may to be for your benefit. Sometimes, however, a watcher will watch and then bid as the auction comes to the end. A watcher should not affect anything you do on eBay.

How can you cancle your bid on eBay?

Once you commit to a bid, you have entered a binding contract and must pay the seller for the item if you win it, so it is very important that you only ever bid the absolute maximum amount that you are willing to pay.

There are very few exceptions to this contract, and you cannot normally cancel (or retract) your bid unless you can meet any one of the specific requirements, as follows:

i)if you mistyped your bid, e.g., you mistakenly typed 59.50 instead of 5.95

ii)if the description of the item has substantially changed since you placed your bid, i.e., the seller has released further details with regards to condition

or

iii) if you cannot reach the seller by email or telephone

There are also time limits involved. You can only retract your bid if you placed it and are retracting it before the last 12 hours of the auction. If you place a bid within the last 12 hours of the auction, you may only retract the bid within one hour of placing it.

If you meet one or more of these criteria, you may fill out the form to request a bid retraction by clicking on "retract bid" link at the bid history page.

If you do not meet the conditions to retract a bid, your recourse is to contact the seller. Explain the situation to them and ask them to cancel your bid. They are under no obligation to do so.

You can sell anything online via Ebay. What should you sell online is up to the seller. For the item you may be trying to sell there might not be a buyer for. If you were to sell something online most people look for it to be in working condition if not new just at a lower price. If you can find a buyer you should sell anything you want to part with to make money on items that no longer have any use or value in your life.

eBay itself does not rip you off - it's the users who are selling you the item. Sometimes there are unfaithful and untruthful sellers on eBay, and they might rip you off. However, 99% of the time eBay sellers are not a rip off.

How much commission eBay?

eBay charge an "insertion fee" when you create your listing (which is what they call writing the ad for your auction). If you want to use upgrades such as adding extra photos, or adding a reserve price, then they will charge you "upgrade fees" as well. All of these fees are payable whether your item goes on to sell or not.

If your listing ends with a sale you will be charged another fee - the "final value fee" - in addition to all of the other fees you've incurred so far.

To see what the fees will actually cost you, go to the help section on the eBay site that you will be using to create your listings; this is not necessarily your own eBay home site (for example, you might be registered on the UK eBay site but choose to create your listings on the US site; in this case you will need to search the US help section).

Assuming that your listing ends in a sale and your buyer pays you through PayPal, you will also be charged a fee to receive the PayPal payment. To see how much PayPal will take from you, go to your home PayPal site and search for "fees".
