Who invented ventriloquist dummies?

The Greeks called this gastromancy (Greek: ?????????????) and it was often closely aligned with aspects of necromancy in that it was used to make it seem that the spirits of the dead had returned to pass on information retrieved from beyond the grave. In the Middle Ages it was thought to be similar to witchcraft. As Spiritualism led to stage magic and escapology, so ventriloquism became more of a performance art as, starting around the 16th century, it shed its mystical trappings.

Modern Day Ventriloquism

The most familiar type of ventriloquist seen today is a nightclub performer sitting on a stool with a wooden dummy on his or her lap. This comedic style of ventriloquism is, however, a fairly recent innovation, which began in the days of Vaudeville in the late 19th century.

Defintion of elements in the visual arts?

The elements of visual art are components or parts of a work of art that can be isolated and defined. The elements are the following:

Line, shape, color, value, space, form, texture.

Different authors have slightly different lists of elements. Sometimes form is called mass. Some authors include time, direction, size, and others. The elements, along with the principles of visual art, became codified as a way of discussing the appearance of works of visual art.

What are the uses of manufactured wood?

What is the definition of volume as one of the elements of visual arts?

In visual arts volume would be the amount of plasticity or three dimensionality that something depicted has. For example, I wouldn't say humans depicted in ancient Egyptian frescoes don't have volume, namely their bodies look extremely flat as if they were cut out of paper and glued to the surface, in contrast I would say that Adam in Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam in the Sistine chapel has volume because the figure indeed does look three dimensional and has plasticity. In other words, volume is in visual arts used to describe how is mass treated on a painting, drawing, fresco....So Egyptian figures look like they don't have any mass, they look light, while Michelangelo's Adam looks like a massive person who carries a certain amount of weight, also he possesses a kind of fullness of body. For a figure in painting to be described as a voluminous figure it does not have to be a large in size, but has to be in possession of the mentioned mass, fullness, weight, and also a certain amount of heaviness and heftiness. (This doesn't mean that the character has to be overweight. Sometimes it is said that the viewer can 'feel' the weight of a figure. In sculpture, one usually talks about closed and opened volume. Closed volume is compact, doesn't 'interact' with the space surrounding it, that is it doesn't penetrate the space, and looks as if it has some kind of central magnet that makes everything go to the centre. An example is Henry Moore sculpture of a Butterfly in Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. An example of open volume would be Gian Lorenzo Bernini's sculpture Apollo and Daphne because the characters penetrate through the surrounding space, and the space goes through the characters, also the marble doesn't look like it is dragged to some central core but kind of 'splashes' to the outside.

What classifies fine art?

When you think of Art, most people think of pictures and paintings. But art has to meanings- one pictures and paintings and drawings- but the other music, drama and literature. Paintings are visual- music and drama are Fine arts. These were created because those things were both considered arts, only completely different things. They were so you didn't get confused!

Fine art is separated by visual art by the way the content is transmitted to the public .

A fine art use thoughts, ideas, philosophy which don't have a visual support to be appreciated.

For example in poetry what makes the art is the sense of words , the poetic idea , philosophical thoughts which are meant to prove something in a different context.

When a picture or drawing is done there could be both type of arts involved , visual and also fine art but depends of what kind of picture is the one exposed.

When is a symbolic picture there is a fine art inside of course and could be also a visual art if the picture wants to express something from nature in a very detailed and impressionistic way.

So an impressionistic picture can be considered just a visual art if there are no ideas which may suggest in the mind of public and an abstract picture can be considered only fine art if there is no decorative content of good value to be considered art after all.

We can go further in poetry and considering a poem much more as a visual art than fine art when it describes a natural environment or a person and not a meaning and usually this kind of poem is not even considered as poetry but just impressionistic verses.

Regarding music this is definitively a fine art because is not necessary any visual support for brain to receive it, and also good music can be produced by totally deaf persons as Beethoven become after a while.

Finally visual arts are considered like this because what makes them art is what public see and like and not what public understands...

When understanding is involved there is a fine art over there for sure.

How to make a black and white photo with color using a computer?

If you have a photo editing program on your computer, it should have an option to "grayscale" a picture. Look in the help file of the program for the word grayscale.

That will convert a color photo into black and white (with various shades of gray -- called "grayscale").

If by "black and white with color", you mean mostly grayscale and some parts colored, there are a few variations.

One is sometimes called "selective colorization." That's where some of the color of the original color photo is preserved and the rest is black and white. The capabilities of image editors vary, but the page at the related link provided below describes how to achieve selective colorization using "gimp" (Graphical Image Manipulation Program) -- available for free through the web. The concepts described should be applicable to other reasonably sophisticated image editors as well.

Another way to make black and white images with some color is by, essentially, coloring over a black and white image by hand using your computer. A related page (link provided below) describes how to achieve that in gimp. Other sophisticated image editors should be able to do the same in a generally similar manner.

If you do not have a computer, you could hand-colour your black and white photograph using appropriate paint and brushes.

Is art worth its money?

All things are subject to the laws of supply and demand. Original art is unique and there for the supply, being 1, is extremely rare. If it is in demand then it's price will undoubtedly be high.

What are the advantages of arts in technology?

I'm sure it depends on which design school you selected. Virtually all art schools have programs in graphic design and general design concepts that could be useful in fashion design but not all art schools have specific fashion design courses. I would try and find a school that has a fashion design curriculum.

Does ceramics mean pottery?

Ceramics

Ceramic is a catch-all phrase that includes both pottery and porcelain. Ceramics are made from a mixture of clay, water and various additives that are shaped and fired.

Pottery

Simply speaking, the difference between porcelain and pottery is that porcelain is translucent, or allows some light to penetrate, while pottery does not.

Earthenware and stoneware clays are used to make pottery and are fired at 1,700 to 2,100 degrees Fahrenheit and 2,100 to 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively. Earthenware is still porous after firing unless it is glazed, while stoneware will hold water regardless of whether it is glazed or not.

Pottery pieces have been found that date back to 1400 to 1200 BC, making this craft much older than the craft of making porcelain.

Porcelain

Porcelain of a sort was first made in China, sometime during the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220AD). By the Southern and Northern Dynasty (420 AD-589 AD), the process had evolved enough for it to be recognized today as porcelain. The clay used in porcelain is kaolin, which is fired up to 2,600 degrees Fahrenheit. Porcelain is commonly called china today because for centuries only China could make this fine product.

What is the Connection of art and life?

there is a phrase out there that has been commmonly used by hollywood- "art immitates life"- and then there are those that twist it in reference to the bizarre and sinister- "life immitates art". there is always a connection between life and art. art could make our lives easier if it would have something to do with our country. do you know that with the combination of skill and art, we could help the government make the Philippines more progressive? in that way, a lot of people could live comfortably without any problems especially about education and jobs... singers can't avoid art because, as we all know, music is one example of art. a lot of Filipino singers are being discovered because of their talent like Lea Salonga and Charisse Pempengco. because of music, Filipinos became known to other countries. in that way, the support from other countries for the Philippines grew more without anyone taking a risk. so i think my answer is almost explained so in shorter explanation, i would say that because of art, we have now an advanced civilization and there is already a great possibility for us to live our lives to the fullest today, tomorrow and in the future..
