Brake pedal hisses while depressed?
It's the hydraulics in your pedal, and it's normal to hear some slight hissing. If you hear a lot of air, and it seems like your breaks aren't working, then have it checked out.
If the hissing is louder than normal or gets louder as you depress the brake, it could very well be the power brake booster. If it almost stalls the engine while holding the brake down, this would indicate an excess loss of vacuum in the system, which helps control the engine operation. If this is the case, there is a good chance the booster has gone bad, and needs to be replaced.
One other item to look for is less responsive braking than normal, in other words, you are having to push down further or harder than normal to slow or stop the vehicle. The power booster is what gives you "power assisted brakes".
1999 F 250 ABS light stays on?
On ANY vehicle where the ABS light stays on, it means a computer believes there is a problem with the anti-lock brake system.
Vehicles with ABS have sensors at the wheels to determine if they are rolling or stopped. If a wheel is stopped or "locked up" while the vehicle is moving, that means it's skidding. The sensor will signal the computer to reduce braking pressure on that wheel, ending the skid. In practice, this happens many times per second, resulting in a "pulsing" sensation at the brake pedal.
If one or more sensors isn't providing a proper signal (whether or not the vehicle is moving), the ABS computer will trigger the warning light. A problem with the computer itself (including lack of power) can also trigger the warning, and the first thing to check is whether the ABS circuit has a blown fuse.
However, the most common cause is either a bad sensor or damaged wiring from the sensor to the computer. This can be checked relatively easily by removing wheels and examining the sensors and wiring at each wheel. If the wiring is cracked or frayed, or the sensor is cracked or damaged, repairing the wiring or replacing the sensor will probably fix the problem.
If those checks don't detect the problem, the vehicle probably will have to be plugged into a dealership's computer to determine the exact cause.
While it's not a good idea to drive with non-working ABS, the warning light does NOT necessarily indicate a problem with the overall brake system -- it just means the anti-lock system may not be working. Otherwise, the brakes should operate normally, unless the brake warning light is on as well.
Chances are your o2 sensor is detecting an improper mixture of o2/fuel. Either your o2 sensor is failing or there is a hole between your air intake and the throttle body (Possibly on the rubber elbow).
Disreagrd the last answer, no offense but it doesnt make any sense. Sounds like you are talking about a carburated vehicle here, due to the fact that pumping the gas pedal in a fuel injected system does nothing. Chances are you have internal carburetor problems. Depending on the type of carburetor there can be a vast amount of non functioning parts. Have it rebuilt.
sounds like the ignition switch is connected to the gas pedal. My brother tells me that when it happens to me! I may be blond but my brother knows alot about cars!! Pukenstein@aol.com

Same thing happened to me. Replaced the battery & the light went out for a couple weeks; after which it was back on again. This time I took it to the shop & they said the alternator was about to go. I didn't want to "fix" something that was "about to go" so I drove it for about 10 more days before the alternator stopped putting out enough juice to keep the car running or battery charged. Took the car back in & paid to have the alternator replaced. Guess they were right b/c it has worked just fine since. Good luck. It sounds like your alternator is about to go. Remove the inner door panel. There will be an arm that is or in this case is not attached to the handle. There are two rods: one upper and one lower. Pull the top rod down to unlatch the top catch and pull the lower one up to unlatch the bottom catch. Hope this works.
How do you remove back plugs in a 2004 Ford Escape?

What is the recommended amount of R134 needed to recharge a 2002 Ford Escape air conditioning unit?
The recommended amount is located on an information tag on the underside of the hood (open the hood and look along the front edge of the hood, driver's side, near the battery, for the tag). The recommended amount on my 2002 Ford Escape XLT is 32oz. Which would be approximately: 2 1/2 cans of the r134 refrigerent (without sealer, 12 oz.) ...or... 3cans of the r134 refrigerent (with sealer, 10.5 oz.)Be sure to check your tag... I've also noticed that if the air conditioning unit is blowing hot or warm air at the onset (not cool), it must be fully charged to operate correctly. Adding only 2 cans to an empty unit allows the AC to blow cold for a day or two but it will soon blow hot again. Fully charging the unit (used 3 cans), has corrected this problem for me once and for all. The AC is charged and is staying charged. It has also stopped blowing hot at higher speeds (55 mph+)...which was a problem in the past. Total Cost (K-Mart): $27.00 plus tax. Plus, I have the high-pressure hose and adapter for future use.
