The exhaust manifold is the collection of pipes bolted directly to the engine head. It carries the burnt exhaust fume out of the engine to the catalytic converter and then through the muffler and out the tail pipe.

Why does Ford Escape stall when rains?

When i get a car in the shop with the complaint that it dies in wet or damp weather, i normally find a bad ignition coil.

To test, lift the hood and start the car at night and spray water from a mist bottle onto the engine looking for sparks. You may see electrical arcs coming from the ignition coil or the spark plug wires.

Remember not to soak the motor or the spark will ground and you may not see it, just mist the motor and keep an eye out for sparks.

Wait a bit before you spray the motor for your eyes to adjust to the dark, that helps, and be very careful of moving parts in the dark they are harder to see. Be cautious.

What size is the rear wiper blade on the 2002 Ford Escape?

The 2002 Ford Escape takes a fairly specialized 10" rear wiper blade that is universal, yet hard to find. See sources and related links below. Do not buy wipers just by length however, and be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers for the brand wiper you decide to purchase by vehicle make, model and year. This ensures correct length AND attachment.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 2001 V6 XLS Ford Escape?

these engines use a coil on plug system in which each of the 6 plugs have their own igition coil. the plugs are good for 100,000 miles according to the mfgr, which is just as well as the intake system has to be removed to access the number 1,2 and 3 coil/plug units. the number 4.5 and 6 units are on the "front", (left) head and are accessed by the removal of the protective plastic cover (it says "ford v-6 dohc 24 valve"). taking the cover off will show you the design of the dohc head and the coil/plug units mounted in the center of the top of the head. a connector attaches the cable to the coil and capscrew holds the coil to the head. removing the screw and disconnecting the cable connector allows the coil unit to be very carfully pulled off using a gentle twisting motion to break the gasket seal to the plug. the coil must be disconnected from the cable to allow the coil to be removed due to the long insulator piece that connects to the plug. after all this is done the plug can be removed in the usual way with a plug deep socket and extension. due to the need to remove the intake system, a simple thing such as a plug change should be left to a good shop or an experienced diy person. this info was gained from a haynes manual number 36022, a very good source of info. i have rebult/repaired many vehicles using their products. good luck!! ----------------------------- I found this web site to be an excellent reference for your question. I could not have done the work without it! http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/article.php?id=281 Best of luck!

How do you change lince plate lite bulb on a 2005 ford escape?

Where your license plate is on the back. If you hold the hatch back door at eye level you will see a black release button that you slide to the left if your replacing the passenger rear and it's kinda tricky because you have to slide it as you are pulling it out.( I used a screw driver to help me pull it out) If you are doing the drivers rear license lite ( I had to unscrew the screws that are in the way because it wouldn't let me slide it enough to pull the socket out. But if you go look at it you'll see what I am talking about. Hope this HELPS :)

Where is the cylinder head sensor located in 300zx?

I think you're talking about the cylinder head temperature sensor. It's well hidden. It's located on the front toward the bottom of the cylinder head on the driver's side. When standing in front of the car it's just above and to right of the water pump. The easiest way to locate it is to find the two wire cable that goes to it and follow it down behind the timing belt cover, past the coolant pipes and almost behind the other side of the timing belt cover. The two wire cable will have a connector near the number one spark plug. I expect that your computer is flashing the 1 red 3 green code. Most of the time the problem is the connection between the two wire cable and the connector. On the two I saw, the connection was very corroded. It took a lot of cleaning and some bending of the contacts on the connector before I got a reliable connection. Once you find where the two wire cable ends then take the connector off the sensor and try to clean both sides. Be careful taking off the connector - it's probably brittle by now and the spring retainer clip easily goes flying to who knows where. I took a long handled screwdriver and partially pried up the spring retainer. I then clipped on a hemostat to the clip and finished removing the clip. The connector then comes off easily. Bob PS - you'll have about 2,000 Ohms of impedance across the wire harness when everything is good. The sensor is a thermistor so the resistance will depend on how warm the engine is. Usually it'll be 1500-2500 Ohms when the engine is cool enough to work on.

My 2001 ford escape misfiring on cylinder 2. it is a 3.o liter engine. i changed the plugs and coil over plug and it still misfires?

Have had this problem twice. Once at 3000 m and once at 105000. Both times it was the coil pack, what the wires connect too at the other end of the spark plugs. Both were dealer manufacturer parts. Replaced with a coil pack bought off of eBay for 40, immediately fixed the problem. Hope this helps, if not, check for a vaccum leak.
