How do you identify Ford 144 ci and 170 ci 6 cylinder engines?
Hi
This answer relates primarily to the Falcon, as the Mustang did not come out with the 144 cu in engine.
The 144 cu in engine has a blue rocker cover, and is available with an 8.7:1 compression ratio and optional 7.5:1 ratio; a sticker on the inside of the windscreen, if it exists, indicates if the motor is the high-compression one.
On early models, the air cleaner is secured to the top of the carburettor by a threaded rod with a right-angled end that allows pliers to be used to turn the rod to tighten the securing clamp.
From memory, the 170 cu in engine has a yellow rocker cover and 8.7:1 compression ratio.
Hope this helps.

What is the Head bolt torque 1994 Ford Falcon 4.0 engine?
Proper way to torque them is to buy new bolts and do them up via instructions that come with head gasket ( they are torque to yield - from mem 30 ftlb then 180 degrees more , but that's just from mem ). If you are not using new bolts you are better off to just do them to about 40ft lb, 50 , then 65ft lb .Not much use toqueing to yield unless you use new bolts...
What engines can you put in your EB Ford Falcon will an xr8 fit?
The xr8 motor will bolt straight in. However you will need the whole wiring loom and transmission to put in. I'm assuming that there's a 6 in there at the moment. Alot of work but should be worthwhile.
What are the meanings of the dashboard symbols and warning lights on a Ford Falcon?
Read your owners manual if you have one. Red light is normally a warning of low oil pressure. SRS is an indication something is wrong with the air bag system. Check Engine Light means there is a problem with the emissions system. Maintenance Required means some scheduled maintenance is required, normally an oil/filter change. Orange or red light can mean engine is overheating. Can also be a gauge with a thermometer for engine temperature. Charging gauge tells you if the alternator is charging your battery. TC or TCS or ETC stands for Traction Control. If the light is on there is a problem or the traction control is turned off. OD stands for overdrive.
Why do you have a speed limit?
Speed limits are imposed to minimize accidents and the damage caused by accidents. When a car is going slower there is less potential for death to occur in an accident.
How do you remove the steering box on a 1963 Ford Falcon?
The entire steering shaft is part of the steering box so you have to: remove the pitman arm - remove nut then persuade the arm off the splined shaft. Remove the steering wheel and steering column housing - disconnect the electrical connectors, and there should be two bolts to the dash just below the cluster (and I think another couple attached to the floor). Remove the three bolts holding the steering box to the chassis rail, then carefully manouver the box and shaft out through the interior of the car. The reason for the funny shaped hole in the floor that the column attaches too is so that the steering box can come out this way.

How do you install air conditioning in a 1961 Ford Falcon?
There are several companies that specialize I classic car air conditioning butI couldn't locate a kit specific to my Falcon. I took my 1961 Falcon to a dealer/ installer for Vintage Air. He's located in Pearland Texas and he used individual components from Vintage Air to install a unit complete with new heater core and working defroster. A first class job that cost around $2500. Cool in the Texas summer and warm in the winter.
Why are your lights not working on eb Ford Falcon gl wagon is it a relay problem?
headlight relays (nxt to battery) or the actual switch in the car ...check you have 12v at the red wire behind the switch...could even be the switchable relay the headlight wires run to with a purple an white wire
I had a similar issue with an ef falcon wagon 95 mdl. I rectified this by removing each door switch, the little black one on the pillar that makes the lights go on and off much like the little penguin in your fridge when you close the door :). Remove these and clean the metal contact on the back with a fine wire brush and replace. This seemed to fix mine as I'm guessing the smart lock system still thinks there is a door open and wont lock. Also check your interior light globe as this has a similar effect. Hope this helps.

How do you change oil on a Ford Falcon?
Unscrew the oil plug in the sump ( put something under it before you do) and wait til the old oil stops runing out. Replace the oil filter on the side of the motor wit a new one, put new oil in the usual place until the dip stick says full. and bob's your uncle.
Can you fit a BF falcon front bumper on to a BA falcon?
yes you can. it cost me about $350 for the bumper(new unpainted) and $150 for the 3 plastic inserts(New) you use the b.a. grill. the clips are pretty average once they are used , so it pays to get some new ones for across the top and underneath. you have to pull out the plastic wheel arches to get to a couple of screws. i painted the bumper myself, so I'm not sure how much it would cost to get it painted at the panel shop.
