Should you buy used tarot cards?

Tarot cards are one of the diviners most personal tools. Sure it is okay to buy them as novelty, especially if they once belonged to a famed psychic. But, i find that it is better to own your own deck. When using tarot cards it is important to tune one's clairvoyant vibrations to that of the deck, thus using the cards as a medium of strengthening and channeling predictive abilities. When a diviner has used a set of decks for awhile they will begin to notice a sort of "personality" (if i may say so for want of a better word) that the deck adopts and soon find that they make predictions more accurately with that particular deck than compared to other decks. Think of it like when using a bicycle. After using once bicycle for so long, it is often "wierd" to be using another bike, even if its a new one. When we touch things, or use things, we impart upon them psychic imprints of ourselves, minute and mostly insignificant. Think the same with tarot cards, except on a larger scale. Sometimes when using another diviner's tarot cards (especially if the diviner is not around to help your vibrations flow into his/her vibrations) one can find that the tarot card's predictions may be off (innacurate or unrelated to the question being asked). However, like a used bicycle one should be able to tune into the deck's vibrations with time and use it to almost, if not perfect effect.

An alternate viewpoint:

With the greatest respect to the above answer. Others believe that the cards themselves neither bear the imprint of the user, or maintain psychic energy. Ultimately this answer goes to the core of how one views the Tarot: (and I am certainly not suggesting an answer) Is the tarot a mystical source of divine insight, or is it a deeply introspective tool for self analysis and therapy? If you feel that the latter case better describes your approach to Tarot, (ie: the energy is 'you') then you should certainly feel comfortable with used cards. (Or online cards for that matter, like those at iFate.com) The ultimate answer of course is a question: What do you feel comfortable with? What works better for you? Tarot isn't a religion. There is no dogma. Only practice.

What is tarot's genre?

It should be understood that there are two main forms of tarot:

1) There is a tarot, tarock and tarocchi family of trick taking card games played mostly in European countries such as France, Italy, and Austira. This should not be confused with occult or divinatory tarot. This branch of tarot should be classified under "card games" and not under "new age" "occult" "mind, body, spirit" etc.

2) Then there's occult tarot or the divinatory art of tarot reading which is a branch of cartomancy. This is the branch of tarot which falls under the "new age" "mind, body, spirit" etc and this branch of tarot is in no way a "game" in most coventional understandings of the term.

What does the red queen mean?

Queen of Hearts: An ultra feminine lady, very loving, nurturing, passive and demure with great inner quite strength. She is also seductive, graceful, sweet, courteous, charming and mysterious. The ideal, perfect woman...a bliss .

Queen Of Diamonds: An intelligent, practical woman. Generally she is a little materialistic or could be someone who is independent, smart and career oriented.

When the querent picks these cards, or one of these...it says he/she either has these characteristics if she is a woman, or some woman who is having or will have influence on her affairs or future, now or in coming times.

Is there any proof that a person's future can be seen through fortune telling?

IAny prediction is based on what could happen, you always have free will to change anything at anytime. So, no they can not predict the future.
  • I have had my palm read. Very interesting. The reader was able to tell many things about me from careful observation, and his predictions were based upon that quick assessment that he made of me. I believe that he was extremely astute in figuring out many things about me quickly. Some people have very good intuition, and they have learned how to listen to it. I was quite impressed with his predictions. However, they were not specific enough to say that they came true. The predictions were more along the lines of "These are strong possibilities" based upon my skills, temperament, education, and past experiences. Some items have come true because I was already headed in a certain direction, and it was obvious enough when I had my palm read. Other items he predicted were vague enough that it is hard to say how true the predictions were. These things are not exact. My advice is to enjoy the experience of getting your fortune told, or your palm read, but don't take it literally. We all must figure out our own lives, make our own decisions, and take responsibility for our actions.
  • This happens all the time, but most people tend to believe only successes, since it's boring to say, "I had my palm read, and nothing happened." No one knows the future, but some people are very good at guessing and telling people what they want to hear.
  • The future is something very complicated, anything can happen to change it, the flick of my wrist could drastically change something, in Quantum Physics, it states that probability is the judgment of future, and that there are many outcomes that can come from one thing. This means that the future is ever-changing and almost impossible to tell, but it is still fun to experience a fortune teller.
  • For the most part they are charlatans and not to be trusted. As the first poster described the reader is very astute at reading the character of the person. For instance: If the woman's hands are soft, she has long nails, then she could have an office job or be fairly wealthy where she doesn't have to work with her hands, but if they are rough she is obviously in a hard labor job such as cleaning houses, being out in the weather re her job, etc. Sometimes the client is not aware they are giving out information. Example: The fortune teller may say, "I see someone here that loves you very much. Their name starts with an M ... Maria ... Mary?" The client without thinking gets excited and says, "That's my grandmother Margaret!" The fortune tellers works off that information. I have had two experiences and one was a lady that told me mostly about my past and was right on. I honestly didn't say a word and when she was quiet I remained quiet. I had taken off my engagement ring (it was during the winter and I had no white mark on my finger) and she told me right off the bat to "put your engagement ring back on!" The other fortune teller I saw was a famous man named David, and he was an extremely hyper individual. He did not know my last name. He told me my father was there. Of course I rolled my eyes because I had gone there more for entertainment than anything else. What shocked me the most was my father had a very unusual name "Ira". David said, "Your father Ira is here and he apologizes for slapping you across the face when he had his stroke!" There was no way just anyone could know this. This actually happened to me when my father was ill. He told me many things about my past and I was shocked, but very little about my future. I do believe that God has given a great gift to a very few people (to heal not only diseases, the mind, body and soul.) I do believe there are a very few people out there that can help the police locate missing people of all ages (there is a lady in England, and two ladies in the U.S. that work with the police) but, if it's a gift from God then no one should make huge amounts of money from the poor people that come for help and it's lower than a snake's belly to pretend you are talking to someone that has passed on. I never go to them anymore. Life is full of surprises and it's sad if someone were to tell our future ... sort of like knowing what your gift is before you open the present.
  • If they have, then it is by pure coincidence. Not because of any type of fortune teller. Everything what happens is from God!
  • When a person who is sensitive enough to perceive higher vibrations tells your future, so to speak, they are simply sensing what you have set into motion through your own thought processes. What so many fail to tell you is that since you have set these things into motion that you can also change them to have different results. I see it as an irresponsible use of one's ability to perceive. The ones with the correct intention will definitely tell you this. Your thoughts, conscious or unconscious are potentially creative. We are creators by nature since our Father is one. Anyone may elect to become familiar with this vital part of themselves. As long as you choose to believe that people who can see have been given a special gift, then you will continue to sell yourself short. The truth is that we were all given the same gift of life and choice, this is all. Things of the mind can be learned just as anything else can be learned. If you wanted to learn how to play tennis you would want to find a good teacher. The same is true with learning about yourself, and learning how to construct your own future is available from many sources. Start from your current level of understanding and mentally ask what's next. Then observe, pay attention to what opens up to you. Through enough personal research, anything can be known. If you choose to take someone elses opinion only, you are essentially allowing others to control your life. The key is to find out for yourself on things of a personal nature. Everyone needs to know how their mind works and how to cause it to work more efficiently. This was built into the very fiber of our being from the beginning and to ignore this is the single most important element in the problems we experience. Yes a fortune teller can tell your future or at least tell you something for your money. You can do as well or better.
  • The reason "fortune tellers" cannot tell your truefuture is that they are not in tune with the one that holds your future. They can only read thoughts and study cards. However, all occult practices are said to "channel demons" to give you answers you seek. All spiritual gifts require a spiritual source. If you access information illegally through spirits or demons then you are asking for a False Wordbecause demons only know what is, not what is to come.
  • Please do not dabble in this sort of thing. It is pure evil, and should be avoided. Trust in Jesus Christ to help you, as he is ever merciful and loving. No.... Like the person above me... ask Jesus Christ to help you and guide you my friend... for we all are his children and we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • I have known what will happen before it did. I have also had readings that were so far off I was angered I payed for them. Proof is hard to come by for the world is always flowing and you should trust yourself and in whatever higher power you believe in over going to some random person.
  • Close your your eyes and picture yourself going to a fortune teller and asking them to tell you your future. Once you've done this go to a fortune teller and ask them to tell you your future, and viola! You have proof. You have seen your own future through fortune telling.
  • This is actually more complex a question than many people might first admit. First lets start with the basics. As far as we can tell (through serious scientific investigation) there is no evidence that any sort of psychic phenomenon (including clairvoyance) exists. Most (if not all) psychics are indeed practicing what is called cold reading, a rather straight forward process of asking general questions and reading body language to determine what to ask next. Everyone practices this to some extent or another, though typically subconsciously, but psychics, salesmen and carnival barkers have honed it into an art over the years. Sometimes the psychic themselves doesn't know their faking it. However, all of that being said, here's something to think about: in equations for quantum mechanics, there is increasing evidence that certain zero-point, or massless, particles (photons, electrons and others) may indeed travel backwards in time. While the jury's still out as to what the ramifications of this may be, it is interesting to consider that at some point in the future, we may be able to detect these particles and possibly even get information from them which would be a strange sort of psychic communicator. Gotta love technology.

How do you deal tarot cards using a playing card deck?

In a tarot card deck there are 14 Cups or hearts (depending on the deck), 14 Swords (Spades?), 14 Wands (clubs?), 14 Pentacles (Diamonds?) and 22 "royalty" cards (these are what I call people cards or hierarchy cards. Ex. The Fool, The Moon, The emperor, etc. etc.) In a playing card deck there are only 13 of each suit, so you are 1 card short of each suit and then you would need almost an other half deck to do your "people" cards. Not to be a downer, but unless you can over come these problems, I don't think you can accurately do a tarot reading with playing cards.

Which tarot card refers to God?

There isn't a Tarot card that represents God specifically, although there are several that could be considered as being religious in nature. It has been said that the II High Priestess is about internal, hidden knowledge; the V High Priest is concerned with tradition and formal education; and XX Judgment could be associated with the final judgment day. This is the time that you are found worthy or not, based on your past actions. The two figures on VI The Lovers and XIV Temperance are looked upon as angels in many circles. The XVI Tower's original French name means "House of God." In the tarot family of card games XXI The World cannot be beaten and is worth 5 points as a counting card. The World is sometimes named the Universe in some modern divinatory tarot decks. It should be noted that the interpretation of tarot cards is subjective and is contingent upon one's own belief system regarding God and how one feels the cards should be interpreted.

Do tarot readings really work and if they do what are the timeframes for the predictions to come true?

Do Tarot Readings Work And If So Are The Time Frames For The Predictions In The Future True?
  • The Tarot Reading that you receive will depend upon the reader, and whether it is deemed to work will be your individual judgement, and will depend upon a number of factors, starting with your expectations. Tarot is an art not a science, and readers are often very talented intuitives, with a body of knowledge gained through long study of the Tarot which is a discipline in its own right. The reader uses their knowledge of the cards and the leaps of insight or 'psychic' perception looking at them may trigger, but readers, while often deeply sincere, are only human, therefore sometimes fallible. Use them as a source of extra help. The Tarot is a tool, the Reader uses it to 'see' you and to sense the help you may need. It can be a very powerful tool indeed, for accessing unconscious thoughts and feelings that may be holding you back in some way. Identifying these can be liberating. But the Tarot is just that...a tool, although rich in symbolism and in its power for associative thinking. Go by recommendation when choosing a reader, if possible. Ask before booking what type of service they like to offer. Is it classic fortune telling, which will involve an element of forecasting (prediction) Or do they use their Tarot cards as a route to obtaining impartial help and guidance for you with your questions or concerns? Or perhaps they do both. Whether Tarot readings 'work' depends on whether you have chosen a fluent, skilful and experienced reader, have clearly formulated your expectations are, and whether you are prepared to think actively about what is being said to you... to engage instead of being a passive spectator or consumer of entertainment. For a Reading to 'work' you could engage in active listening, give your reader feedback when they are on the right path, and ask questions. It is YOUR reading.
  • The cards give a 'best' answer at the time they are being read; they tell you the most immediate path for the future based upon your current actions. If you walk out of the reading and change your mind about something, the next reading will be different. Some people are more sensitive to energy than others, and these people are usually pretty good about picking up on those energies that show current paths. The answers are ambiguous, for the most part, but if they help you to make a decision or clarify something, then they helped.
  • How can cards tell you the future? Not every reader includes prediction in their service these days, but it is undeniably part of Tarot's tradition and nothing to do with spiritual or religious belief. The entire notion of prediction is perhaps not a lot stranger than the notion of understanding a stranger's present or past through the cards. It depends on what one thinks Time is or is not. Some people fear prediction, and probably will not choose to have a Tarot reading, but no responsible professional reader should ever make dire or frightening predictions, or make predictions at all if this is not desired by their client. And if they do, well, they are fallible, and you do not have to believe them. The Tarot senses trends in you. As with other forms of forecasting...it is this which for some readers, not all, facilitates confident prediction. It does not mean however, that your future is cast in stone, or that you do not have free will or responsibility for your own choices. When the Tarot says anything about your future, it is sensing what seems most likely, based on your current approach. This leaves plenty of scope for change, but may serve to reassure or in rare circumstances, to offer a timely caution.
  • Those who believe in Tarot say that when you shuffle the cards, your vibrations enter and the lay out will be relevant, depending on the accuracy of the interpretation of the symbolics. As far as predicting the future, the lay out may give some insight as to the probability. whether or not it becomes a reality depends entirely upon the choices you make, which means you can change the outcome. question of time frames is a complicated one in Tarot. Each reader, offering indications of time frames, is likely to have their own way of ascertaining what these are, and you can always ask to have their method explained to you.
  • Tarot is a form of divination and as such has not been proven scientifically. However, there are those who believe in he value and usefulness of this form of divination which is still a thriving service today and is even used by some in business as an aid to brainstorming new creative directions, or in decision making.
  • Tarot, to most pagans, is a form of divination of the self. It is intended to gain better insight into yourself, rather than with its emphasis being on predicting the future, but it's full range of uses is something that is still open to exploration by its students and practitioners.
While some Tarot Readers may be Pagans, Wiccans, Spiritualists or even and most controversially, occultists, many others belong to no group or affiliation at all and adopt a secular approach.
