When the Germans invaded Poland in the fall of 1939, Great Britain gave the Germans an ultimatum to pull all of their troops out of Poland immediately, but Germany ignored them. A day later, Great Britain and France declared war on Germany, as they had agreed to do as part of the military alliance.

No. The two countries were allies from 1941-44. Finland allied itself with Germany because Finland was trying to get back areas lost after the winter war. The continuation war was the second finnish war with the Soviet Union.First one was winter war 1939-1940

Sweden remained neutral, it did not participate in the war and was not attacked. Sometimes allied bombers which could not make it back to England would land in Sweden which, as a neutral power, was required under international law to imprison their crews until the end of the war. There is some controversy about Sweden's sales of iron and various goods to Germany - and also to Britain. Sweden allowed the Germans to use their railways which aided in the invasion and occupation of her sister country, Norway, which had also attempted to be neutral. I traveled extensively in Norway during the early 70s, and the WW2 generation never forgot that about Sweden. Put yourself in Hitler's or for that matter any in the German high command's shoes. What does Sweden offer in terms of strategic or tactical warfare? Nothing. In order to fight the British, the only useful country is Norway, which the Germans took. As far as the Soviet front was concerned , Hitler found an already willing ally with Finland. So why disrupt matters by sending German troops into a country which is militarily useless but economicaly important because of their iron production? The best way to handle the measure is by doing business with Sweden, not attacking them.

The simple rason: He got EVERYTHING he wanted from Sweden! He got his troops movement through the country, no questions asked. And so on. Sweden had alot of 'friendly toughts' about the Nazis during the war. Even as high up as within the royal family, not to mention all the industrialists, who saw Germany as a business partner!

Actually, it was, at one time, forbidden for Swedish newaspapers to publish anything negative about Nazi-Germany!

Some material that I've read said that General Skozeny helped some escape through Italy. He wa, the German general who commanded the special English-speaking commandos who infiltrated the US lines at Battle of Bulge. Supposedly, he had contacts that could smuggle Nazi's out of the coastal port of La Spezia (near Genoa, Italy). I guess from there they made their voyage to Brazile or South America.
