What is the address for the U.S. Army Columbia Hotel in Munich?
The exact address I don't remember, but it was 2 blocks from Rotkreuz Platz. I don't think it's there anymore because 3 years ago I tried to find it
Your question got me digging and I found an old brochure from the Columbia Hotel: Jagdstrasse, 8.
I used the Columbia Hotel enroute from Bamberg to Garmisch in November 1956. We couldn't make connections in Munich for the train to Garmisch and had to stay overnight. I remember taking a streetcar from the Main Bahnhof and having to disembark and walk perhaps a half mile. I recall that the area between the streetcar stop and the Columbia still had some bombed out buildings that hadn't been reconstructed. As I recall the room, which was quite adequate cost us around $1.00 each, we were both enlisted men with the rank of E4. In the morning we took a cab back to the bahnhof and the driver somehow managed to avoid the area that had not yet been rebuilt.

I lived in the area where you are going for 5 years and there are many things to see. Make a stop in Wurzburg. It is a beautiful city with a great musuem and the castle on the hill above the city. Rothenburg is the oldest walled city in Europe. I lived about 20 miles from it and the surrounding area is also interesting. On your route to Rothenburg you will find many small villages and you may want to stop in one for lunch.
