The Hawaiian Island Chain (consisting of 19 islands and atolls) are actually to tops sea-mountains known as the Hawaiian Ridge. It was form over thousands of years by volcanic activity over a "hotspot" in the Earth's mantle. Movement of the tectonic plates have moved the island chain slowly in a north by northwest direction, thus creating more islands (read mountains).

It is difficult to predict which underwater volcano will produce the next Hawaiian island as the formation of new islands is a complex and gradual process that can take thousands of years. The Hawaiian Islands are formed by a hot spot in the Earth's mantle underneath the Pacific Plate, creating a chain of volcanic islands as the plate moves over the hot spot. The next island in the chain would likely form from a new eruption of magma from the hot spot beneath the ocean's surface.

Maui dolphins are subspecies of the Hector's Dolphin. They are endemic to New Zealand. The only difference between the Hector's and the Maui is the location off of New Zealand where they live. The Maui Dolphin lives off of North Island of New Zealand and the Hector's Dolphin live more off of the South Island of New Zealand. They are the smallest dolphin in the world, measuring about the size of a small child. The Maui/Hector's Dolphin is also the rarest species of dolphinin the world. They are critically endangered because they are victims of bycatching, bottom trawling, and several other risks. There is less than 500 left. If they do become endangered, New Zealand will be the first country to wipe out a whole population of a marine mammal.

I would say the core neighborhood of the rich in Honolulu would be the Kahala-Diamond Head area. There are also rich neighborhood colonies going towards the Hawaii Kai side (Waialae Iki, Hawaii Loa Ridge, Portlock) as well as the Kailua area (Lanikai). You can also find million dollar high rise condos in the Ward/Ala Moana area.

Statehood became effective on August 21, 1959.

The state of Hawaii is an archipelago. The names of the main islands of Hawaii are: Hawai'i, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lana's, Niihau, Kahoolawe.

There are eight "main" islands.
