After Qin Shi Huang's death in 210 BCE, the Qin Dynasty faced internal strife due to harsh policies, heavy taxation, and forced labor, which had created widespread resentment among the population. The lack of a clear successor led to power struggles, and the subsequent power vacuum sparked a civil war among rival factions. This conflict, known as the Chu-Han Contention, ultimately resulted in the fall of the Qin Dynasty and the rise of the Han Dynasty. The chaos highlighted the fragility of the centralized autocratic rule established by Qin Shi Huang.

First Prime Minister or Premier of the Republic of China (since 1912) was Tang Shaoyi but the first prime minister of the People's Republic of China (Modern Day China, since 1949) is Zhou Enlai. The trade routes that connected China to Rome and other parts of Europe were collectively called "the Silk Road" after one of the most valuable products that came from China along those trade routes. The German terms "Seidenstraße" and "Seidenstraßen"- 'the Silk Road(s)' or 'Silk Route(s) were first used in 1877 by a German geographer, Baron Ferdinand von Richtofen, who made several expeditions to China. The English term "The Silk Road" has come into general use but it is something of a misnomer; there was not just one route, rather there were several routes that might combine portions of land routes and water routes. Also, they incorporated trade routes to other areas of Asia including Southeast Asia and the "Spice Islands" in the area we now know as Indonesia. Usually these routes passed through other important trade cities along the way so they were not just trade between China and Europe; they traded goods all along the way.

After Mao Zedong died in 1976 and the Four were arrested, Den Xiaoping took over. Deng Xiaoping improved China's economy by introducing a mix of capitalism and communism. For example, under Mao's reign, people worked on collective farms which earned little money. After Mao's death, under Deng's reign, farmers can give the crop to the government for payment and the rest of the crop can be sold by the farmer(s).
