A projector simply projects images onto a wall or projection screen. Projectors are typically used to increase the image size for viewing by audiences. Projectors come in a variety of sizes, normally measured in Lumens which is the brightness of the light. This brightness will determine the size the image can project and the distance the projector can be from the screen. Slide projectors use light to project images from 35mm slides. Digital Projectors use light to project images from computers and DVD players.

Does a vga y splitter cable effect the video quality?

Video signals cannot be split in the same way that other signals such as audio signals can be split. The nature of the signal means that they demand an active splitter, normally called a distribution amplifier. The amplifier will generate two or more signals from the incoming signal, each with the correct voltage and impedance to drive a single input. A splitter that does not have a power supply is a passive one and they do not split the signal correctly. Always make sure you get an active unit (It will always have a power supply).

The quality of the image depends on the quality of the amplifier. Cheap distribution amplifiers are never as good as the best quality units. While you normally don't need to spend hundreds, it is worth avoiding the cheapest ones.

However, a bigger problem with many VGA signals is the cable used. Longer runs of VGA signals should be run on cable that has co-ax cables within the multi-core cable. It can be difficult to identify the cables but as a rule, thicker VGA cables will use co-ax cable inside. The thinner ones won't and they should be avoided for long cable runs. A good quality co-ax type cable will support a cable length of 100 feet or more. The cheap cables will show signs of signal degradation at as little as 10 - 15 feet.

When did flat screen tvs come out?

The world's first television system, The Televisor, by John Logie Baird is also the world's first flat screen television. The display used a backlight of varying intensity with a rotating disc in front of the light to act as a shutter. As the shutter exposed each part of the image, the lamp intensity was adjusted to create a light or dark area. The Televisor was first demonstrated to the public in 1925 and went into scheduled service by the BBC in 1929, so becoming the first regular broadcasts.

By the mid 1930s, the televisor was being replaced by cathode ray tubes. These have remained in use until plasma and LCD televisions once again made flat screen televisions available in the late 1990s.

LCD displays have been available from the 1980s but were limited in size and quality. The improvements in design and manufacturing have seen a gradual increase in both size and quality of image over the past two decades.
