How do I register Paint Shop Pro 9 now that Jasc no longer supports the software?

The simple answer is, you don't.

When JASC sold its Paint Shop Pro product name to Corel, a lot of us jumped ship and stuck with what was - and still is in many computer artist's opinions - one of, if not "the" best program of its type.

Corel dropped the nomenclature "Paint Shop Pro" after one year, and have since gone off in all sorts of unrelated directions, none of them very good in my personal opinion.

If you search carefully - and it may take a while - you can still find copies of PSP 9 + 4 updates/upgrades online. I found mine by looking for a Torrent.

Good luck!

How do you stop page from scrolling in illustrator cs5?

The issue is with the mouse behaviour in Mac OS10.7, not with Illustrator itself. I have solved the problem by turning off the mouse scrolling while in an Illustrator session. To do this:

> Mac system preferences

> universal access [it's here, not under "mouse"!]

> mouse, then select "mouse options"

> deselect "scrolling"

Does TIFF file retain layers?

yes, but you will have very large file if layers are included and experts recommend .psd format for files with layers. If you work in Photoshop better choice is .psd format when layers are included in file, if you need to save in .tif, after choosing this format it will ask you for kind of compression, best choice is LZW, if you choose none, then file size will be huge.

Why is the size of a jpg file stored in the memory of a digital camera very large but the same file opened in MS Paint and saved as jpg much smaller?

A jpg file stores a compressed picture.

The digital cameras use a relatively weak compression in order to improve the time that it takes to process an image before saving it. Most of the compression algorithms are also implemented in hardware, which limits the complexity - they face severe memory and processor limits on the digital camera hardware. In few words they trade algorithm complexity for time.

When you open it in MS Paint or some other PC Software and save it again you use the standard JPEG algorithms that are optimized for PC (typically the jpeglib). These algorithms start with the assumption that they have a lot of memory and processing power at disposal, therefore these algorithms trade processing time for the size and quality of the results. The result is that even if the quality is similar (no difference for the human eye) the output size may be up to 5x smaller for images processed with PC software.

GIMP froze while I was working I can't click anything even to close?

This has happened to me too; quite a lot. It is likely that the program had crushed. Sadly there isn't a possible way to reload it, so you may have to say goodbye to your work :( The only way to get rid of the program is to turn off your computer.

Are Tiff files cross platform?

Why you are using image compression?

Is there a Mac imaging software that allows removing and changing a picture background?

The application Preview that comes with the Mac has the ability to extract an image from the background. The success of such a project depends on how "busy" the background is. A few clearly defined colours in the background will be easier to remove than a jumble of shapes and colours. Launch Preview and then Open your photo from the file menu. Click and hold on the arrow beside the Select icon at the top of the window and then select Extract Shape from the menu that appears. Click the mouse on the edge of the part of the image you want to keep and drag the mouse carefully around the outline of the shape. You can adjust the line so that it is a better fit if needed. Press return to see the result. If the result is satisfactory press return again to remove the unwanted background. Save the image with another name so as not to overwrite the original. Other software that can extract the background include ChromaKeys or Adobes Elements or the full Photoshop (See links below) but most image editing software will offer some masking and extraction functions. The choice depends on what other features you need and how much you want to pay.
