Malls have changed the entire concept of shopping in India. Earlier Indian consumers had to do their shopping in their local small / medium stores near by their homes. What were the events leading to Quit India Movement?

The Quit India Movement (Hindi: भारत छोड़ो आन्दोलन Bhārat Chodo Āndolan), or the August Movement (August Kranti) was a civil disobedience movement launched in India in August 1942 in response to M K Gandhi's call for immediate independence. The All-India Congress Committee proclaimed a mass protest demanding what Gandhi called "an orderly British withdrawal" from India. The call for determined, but passive resistance appears in his call to Do or Die, issued on 8 August at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay.

The British were prepared to act. Almost the entire Indian National Congress leadership, and not just at the national level, was imprisoned without trial within hours after Gandhi's speech-at least 60,000 people. Most spent the rest of the war in prison and out of contact with the masses. The British had the support of the Viceroy's Council (which had a majority of Indians), of the Muslims, the Communist Party, the princely states, the Imperial and state police, the Indian Army, and the Indian Civil Service. Many Indian businessmen were profiting from heavy wartime spending and did not support Quit India. Many militant students paid more attention to Subhas Chandra Bose, who was in exile and supporting the Axis. The only outside support came from the Americans, as President Franklin D. Roosevelt pressured Prime Minister Winston Churchill to give in to Indian demands. The Quit India campaign was effectively crushed.

The British refused to grant immediate independence, saying it could happen only after the war ended.

Population impact on economy?

PLICATIONS OF GROWING POPULATION IN INDIA

Population growth and its relation to economic growth has been a matter of debate for over a century. The early Malthusian view was that population growth is likely to impede economic growth because it will put pressure on the available resources, result in reduction in per capita income and resources; this, in turn, will result in deterioration in quality of life. Contrary to the Malthusian predictions, several of the East Asian countries have been able to achieve economic prosperity and improvement in quality of life in spite of population growth. This has been attributed to the increase in productivity due to development and utilization of innovative technologies by the young educated population who formed the majority of the growing population. These countries have been able to exploit the dynamics of demographic transition to achieve economic growth by using the human resources as the engine driving the economic development; improved employment with adequate emoluments has promoted saving and investment which in turn stimulated economic growth.

Following are the adverse effects of population growth on the Indian Economy:

1.adverse effects on savings

2. unproductive investment

3.slow growth of Per Capita Income

4.underutilization of labour

5.growing pressure on land

6.adverse effect on quality of population and

7.adverse social impact

What is the significance of the British East India Company?

finance trading ventures

Firstly, there wasnt just one East India Company, the british, french, dutch, spanish, Portuguese, swedish and danish all had east India companies. Secondly, the east India companies all focussed around one particular thing, profit through trading. This was achieved by trading with the forign nations mainly in India and the East Indies such as the Maratha Confederacy and the Mughal Empire. When they traded with them, they did two things, on the voyage there, the ships were full of cheap cargo from Europe and the Americas such as Tobacco, Iron, Steel and Weapons which were sold expensively in India, then they filled the ships with cargo from India such as Spices, Tea and Silk. These ships then sailed back to their home countries and sold these goods in the east India docks to the public expensively as they were very rare commodities in Europe. So basically, the purpose of the East India Companies was to primarily import and export goods which benefited their nations but they also made profit using supply and demand just like most companies do.
