What is the average cost of faux painting?
This question is complex to answer. Faux finishing is not a "production process" like traditionally hiring a painter to paint a solid color. Therefore it is a good rule of thumb to figure that a faux finish is about 4-6 times more expensive than a production painter. Of course, it is very hard to give an exact price. No faux finisher can give you an estimate over the phone, they will need to see the space that they are working with. The estimate will include the cost of materials, transportation, an example board for you to keep, and labor. Labor is also hard to give an exact price because it does vary from region to region. I work out of Cleveland and Tucson. The prices are different for both areas however a standard price for labor could be anywhere from $2-4 dollars per square foot. Hope this helps!
Is an oil based paint better than a latex paint when waterproofing a basement?
Most latex paints state that they should not be used below grade so it's probably not a good idea. The reason behind it is that the moisture from the concrete can make the paint peel.
What art movement is Daniel libeskind?

What kind of paint finish should you use on wood trim?
I am having the same issue. From what I have been told, if you want to accentuate your trim use a semi-gloss finish or a satin finish if your wall paint is flat. Easier to wipe off hand smudges, too!
What are the size of doors in the living room?

How do you drill a ceramic tile?
Drilling ceramic tile can be accomplished with a carbide tipped drill bit such as one for masonry or concrete but a better choice is a bit designed to drill glass which is much harder Most home improvement stores carry such bits and they are only a bit more than regular bit sets. A glass bit looks like a spade on the end of a shank while the masonry bit looks like a traditional twist drill.
Can oil paint go over acrylic paint?
The short answer is NO, water based paints do not adhere to oil base paints.
However if you are willing to lightly sand the oil base paint, and apply an oil based primer, you can then use water based paint as a top coat.
What type of paint for kitchen cabinets?
I covered my old butcher block lamanent coutertops with a spray that looks like stone that I purchased at a home improvement center. I think it was called STONE CREATIONS. I then sealed it with 5 coats of polyurathene and I am very very happy with the results! It is durable to a point.....and has held up very well. It can eventually chip but the way I looked at it this was just to get me through until I do replace the countertops. I am very happy with the way it updated my kitchen. I did this in one weekend and that was 2 years ago. It still looks good but does need occaisional touch up. What I did was mask off everything around the counters just like if you were spray painting. ON Friday night I applied the first coat of spray and let it dry overnight. I then applied the 2nd coat and then on Sunday morning I started in with the polyurathene coats.....letting the first one dry really well. BY Sunday night I was through and I was so impressed. The stone spray comes in several colors.....the cost was about $8 a can and I used 4 cans, and I have a lot of counters space. I only wished I would have done it sooner to update my kitchen because I hated those outdated butcher block counters. Good luck and on a scale of 1 to 10 of difficulty I would rate this project a 2 for easy.....the hardest part was masking off cabinets and windows surounding the counters...I just used painters tape and newspaper.....just time consuming.....but a project I highly recommend to cover ugly countertops.

What colors are good for redoing a teens room?
pink or purple more than likely. Here's a radical idea, ask the young lady for her input.
You will be surprised at how pleased she will be to be included in the process. She may be very mature in her response, but even if her ideas seem a bit extreme, say hot pink and lime green, talk to her, tell her she will have to live with the result for at least three years, it may make her dial back her first thoughts.
And remember, if it turns out to be too much and neither of you can live with it, a coat of white paint will solve the problem.
Do you paint walls or trim first?
1- Door & Window frames first (and the ceilings if applicable)
2- Next the Walls.
3- Then you finish off with the baseboards.
The reason why it's important to paint the frames before the walls is that it is much easier to cut a strait line with your brush comfortably resting on a wall (compared to the tiny edge of of frame).
Now the reason why you don't paint the baseboards first is in 2 part.
1- Even if you do a great job cutting in with the brush and not put any paint on the baseboards, you're still going to have tiny drops from when you roll out the wall paint.
2- The most important reason for DIY's however is to create the illusion of a straighter line.
The logic is simple... unless you are lying down on the floor... you will be admiring the beauty of your new paint job from a higher point than your baseboards. This means that if there should be any of the trim paint touching the wall it won't be as noticeable than having some wall paint touching the top of the baseboards.
Test it... and see for yourself :)
Happy Painting Everyone!
When you use masking tape to paint a stripe do you peel it of when wet or dry?
"YES" if you wait till the paint is dry,and then try to remove the tape, you risk pulling the edge of the paint with the tape.if the paint is dry,use a sharpe knife or box cuttter to cut the tape from the edge of the paint ,this should help to avoid pulling the paint away from the painted surface.
Why are drawing coordinates important?
Coordinates are important as they define the start and end points of a line, thus allowing a distance and direction to be known. Coordinates can either be based off a global coordinate system such as the UTM mapping projection, our as is more common in architectural projects, a local coordinate system, where a point on our near your site serves as an origin (0,0,0) or some other arbitrary number.
How do you build a house for a school project?
You can cut up old bottles to make windows for your house. Also use old scraps of paper to make grass or snow outside the house.
How do you make a semi gloss paint shinier?
Add Flat Paint to the Semi Gloss (SG). As a general rule, using commercial "production" grade paint.
If you want "Satin" and have SG. you could add 1/3 of a Gal flat, tinted to the same color.
If you want SG and have full Gloss Paint, Add 1/3 of a Gal Flat, tinted the same color.
The reverse is N O T true.
If you want full gloss and have Flat, it won't work in my experience.
Experiment on your own. Just remember its easier to tone down gloss than to add it.
This is assuming the paint is still liquid.
If it is already on the walls, and you want to avoid repainting. A "Matte" finish Clear Coat could be sprayed over the whole wall, But to do it "right" you would want to repaint
When should you use an oil based paint and when should you use a water based paint?
Oil base is the best for exterior painting. Water based chips after a few years, while oil has more of plastic coating effect and will need repainting maybe ten years down the road. It's also good for inside walls if you have kids. When it drys it still looks wet, sort of. It's easier to clean hand prints or coloring off of.
How much does one gallon of laquer thinner weigh?
Which weighs more: a pound of bricks or a pound of feathers? C'mon now... I hope this was meant as a joke.
Well since the question was, "How much does a GALLON of latex paint weight"? um yeah, there is a way higher density in say, thick latex paint rather than water... So I would say you're looking at anywhere from 8 to 10lbs depending on the paint.
What is the average height of a toilet?
That depends on who is to use the toilet. children's toilet seats (in schools for example) are much lower than in an apartment and old peoples homes have even higher seats.
The Swedish standard toilet height (to the rim not including any seat) is 420 mm.
How did the kayapo Indians in the Amazon rainforest build their houses?
The Kayapo Indians of the Amazon rainforest built thatched-roofed huts without room divisions. The thatched-roofs were made from palm leaves. The huts were quite large and the whole family lived in one hut. Bedding was hammocks, made from vines. The hammocks provided better relief from the heat than mattresses.
Will putting a dark paint on a wall with a window make the room darker?
I am a fine artist and also do interior painting including regular painting, faux finishes, decorative finishes and murals. The basic thing to remember about light and dark, whether we're talking about black and white or dark colors or light colors, is that dark tends to make things look smaller or like they are being "pulled in". Light tends to make things look bigger, or more expansive. (Hence, the reason many women won't wear white pants). I put a dark color on my living room wall that has a large window in it. My living room is long and narrow. By putting the dark color on the end wall with the window, it had the effect of "pulling" that wall in, making the room seem more square rather than rectangular, which was the effect I wanted. One thing to be careful about as well is to choose whether to use a warm or cool color. Warm colors tend to pull a room in and make it seem more intimate. Cool colors can make a room feel more expansive. The same rules apply - warm colors tend to come "forward" while cool colors tend to make things seem to "expand outward or away" from you. We see this principle at work when we are out in nature, for example, looking at some faraway mountains. If you pay close attention, things in the foreground seem warmer and more intense. As the scenery gets farther out, it appears to grow cooler, paler and less intense in color. This gives us the sense of depth we perceive when looking at the landscape. So don't just think "dark color" when you paint the wall. Think warm or cool? brighter or less intense (duller, more muted, grayer?) when choosing your paint. All these factors will affect the final look of the wall and the room.
