How do you build a wigwam for my project at school with the right materials?

Hi! I'm doing the same project for school: here's how I'm going to do it. First, buy some wires. You can get any kind (gardening, etc.) just make sure that they're strong and easy to bend. Take the wires and crisscross them. Bend to make a dome shape, and then you can glue them or whatever to a piece of cardboard or a styrofoam board. It doesn't matter, just make sure that it'll stay in place. Buy artificial leaves, or you can go to an Asian market. They sell alot of strong, tough, bamboo-like leaves that are perfect for the project. That's what I'm using. You could also use tree bark, but that might be a little harder to collect. Overlap leaves (you should probably know how to do it since you're doing a project on wigwams) on top of your wire dome, and then just glue/tie in place. (USE TACKY GLUE BECAUSE YES, THE LEAVES DO FALL OFF THE WIRES EASILY!!!!!!!) Then take some strong string, or dental floss, and wrap it around your wigwam a few times to hold it in place. You can use some that's the same color as the leaves so it'll be a little less noticeable. Cut out a door, windows, etc. But make sure to let the leaves dry BEFORE you do this, or else your whole wigwam will fall apart. Hope this helps! =] <3 Carolyn

Can you paint high gloss acrylic over high gloss acrylic without sanding it?

It is never a good idea to paint anything high gloss without sanding first. You don't need to sand clear though the old paint, but the new paint needs something to hold onto. If there is nothing but a smooth, shiny surface, the new paint will probably run if the surface is not horizontal, and then chip and flake very early on. Always run a piece of sandpaper or a sanding block, 150 grit is good, over the surface. Why do something twice?

Paint peels when removing after painting with Semi gloss paint pealing with tape removed?

Is the paint peeling by itself, or only when the tape is removed? If the paint is peeling by itself, and your placing semi gloss over semi gloss, you may need to lightly sand to rough up the surface so the new paint will adhere better. If the paint is peeling when the tape is removed, you may need to use a high quality tape, such as Scotch Blue Painters tape, Or Frog Tape. these tapes are more expensive, but often provide much better results. Also when the tape is removed, the paint either needs to be really dry, or still wet, not somewhere in between. Try pulling very slowly at an angle away from the area that was painted, this technique also helps

Average bedroom size in a four bedroom house?

It depends on what part of the country you live in. The porportions are more important - i.e. in a 5000 sq ft house average bedroom sizes will be larger than in a 2000 sq.ft. house. There are minimums set by the ICC (used to be called the uniform building code).

Whats the difference between Italian porcelain and Chinese porcelain tile?

I have just spent two weeks shopping for tile and have discovered Chinese porcelain tile. Many salespersons and tile installers told me there was no difference in Italian and Chinese tile. The fact is that many Italian companies have relocated to China or have subsidiaries there. One salesperson who visited a Chinese tile factory saw his Itlalian tile company representative obviously arranging to have Italian tile made in China. I decided to use Chinese porcelain tile and it will be installed in January. If I have any problems, I will post the results. Both tile installers from whom I got bids had no problem with the tile and in fact thought it was a good quality and an excellent reproduction of marble.

It is cheaper than Italian tile of the same grade, but isn't everything made in China.

It was the Chinese who introduced porcelain to the West many years ago and we still call fine dinnerware China, so after centuries of making porcelain dishes, what could be wrong with floor tile.

-----

I have discussed the differences between the Italian, Spanish, Turkish and Chinese tiles with a number of salespeople. I am told that the Italians founded the porcelain tile and they are the most expensive. The Italian marble tiles are super expensive and ceramic tiles are not recommended for high traffic areas so the porcelain tile is an excellent choice. There are polished, glazed and matte. be sure to find out the difference and to choose what's best for you. The quality of the Spanish porcelain tiles are supposed to be of similar quality. The Turks got smart and instead of working for the Italians they began producing their own tiles and they are among the world's largest tile makers. The advanatage of tiles from these countries is that they adhere to a strict code of standards . The Turkish porcelain tiles are pof excellent quality and are less expensive that the Italian and Spanish tiles. The Italians also produce tiles in China in order to bring the cost down. These tiles also follow the same codes. The Chinese tiles can be as much as 1/2 the price of even the Turkish tiles but as they are not required to follow a code of standards, you must be careful, as they may not be as good quality.

----------------

I just had some porcelain tile installed in my shower and bathroom floor. I noticed when it chipped it was a different color underneath. Not like my porcelain tile in the kitchen and main bathroom. So when I checked a box of left over tile, it was made in China. After, comparing the 2 tiles, the more expensive ones I bought, to the ones made in China, the color does not go all the way through as does the more expensive porcelain. One of the reasons I liked porcelain tile was the color goes all the way through and if chipped, no one is the wiser. So I hope the cheap China tile holds up well and doesn't chip easily, as it will be quite noticeable. As always, you get what you pay for.

NEW USER:

I just used different tiles for 2 bathrooms in my house.

After shopping for 3 months for tiles and designs and qualities I have learned the following information.

I was looking for spanish porcelain tiles. I fell in love with Porcelanosa (one of the nicest, most unique and well known) They have the thickest and heaviest tile in the market. Their prices vary and if you find the right distributor you will get a great price. Porcelanosa is rather expensive, but their styles are 1 of a kind and their colors and textures cannot be matched or found anywhere else even remotely similar.

Italian porcelain is nothing special. It is nice, and might have some beautiful designs but the spanish tiles are far better and much alike in prices.

I then found an array of Chinese Porcelain. The display looked of spanish quality and honestly after learning so much about all the different kinds I can honestly say the Chinese was way too impressive to pass up on for $1.50 per sq less than Spanish tiles.

The difference:

Spanish tiles: Very thick, and very high quality colors and textures, it looks as if the designs are natural. The cornes and edges of the tile are fine cut and very straight and sharp. Their are no rough edges or chips on a spanish tile. Underneath a spanish reads MADE IN SPAIN.

Chinese tiles: Also thick in depth and pretty designs, but they like creativity in the tile. Unlike the spanish tile you can only create a color and design, not a theme. Spanish tiles look very European and mdoern designed. The Chinese tiles are great for a bathroom with modern furniture but cannot create a theme. They mock a European look but for the few extra $$ you will get European taste and theme with the spanish tiles. The Chinese tiles are a little bit easier to cut and a few percent more delicate and can chip away if not cut professionaly.

For the price difference I would recommend the Chinese tiles without thinking twice.

If you want to spend the extra money then you will appreciate the spanish tiles more. Use Porcelanosa spanish tiles and you will not go wrong.

In my opinion The Chinese tiles are not bad. The Italian tiles are too thin and are just as delicate as Chinese tiles. No difference and the Chinese are less in price.

Who were Frank Lloyd Wright's parents?

Wright's parents were William Cary Wright and Anna Lloyd Jones Wright, who traced their ancestry to Wales. Born Frank Lincoln Wright on June 8, 1867, he changed his middle name from Lincoln to Lloyd after his parents divorced.

I recently found a memoir, Dear Bob, Dear Betty, about his son, Robert Llewellyn Wright and Elizabeth Kehler. It was fascinating to read real stories of their family. The history in this book makes this memoir a work of art.

What is the proper height of bathroom signs?

There is no correct height. The best height is the height that you are comfortable with. Example: If you are a child, 6 ft high hooks are out of reach and the towel will be left on the floor for mom and dad to deal with. Here are some guidelines: Adult reach ranges - about 60" above the floor. Child and handicap ranges - not higher than 48" above the floor. Most people are comfortable with eye height for hanging hooks. Decide what is best for you and put them there. In our house they have been added at the top of each child's head on their birthday. Then by next year they know how much they have grown this year. This is unusual, but fun and they know which hook is theirs. Hope this helps Terry

Can you paint gloss over matte?

Always prime first and make sure to key (sand) all surfaces, whether you are priming or not that is VERY important.

The rule is: You cannot use water base paints over oil base paint. You may if you prime first. If your matte and your gloss are both water based, you may use the matte. When in doubt, please prime first.

Answer

Being in the painting business for nearly 10 years, the key factor to painting waterbase paint (in any sheen) over oil base paint is to sand, sand, and sand again. A regular primer will not add any adhesion to the surface - you need a high adhesion primer that is either oil or shellac base first, or a waterbase that is made specifically to grip to oil. Of course, I would skip this step entirely simply by sanding thoroughly - and using a waterbase topcoat that is good quality. Ideally you should use a paint that is made to stick to oil, such as General Paint's HP2000 or Dulux Diamond. But priming with a regular waterbase primer will not help to solve this problem and will be a waste of your time and money.

What can you use to paint over enamel paint on the walls?

You can use either enamel (oil-based) paint or latex (water-based) paint. If you are using latex paint, you need to use a primer (undercoat) first. The paint store will have a special primer that allows you to paint latex over enamel. If you are going to do this, it is also a good idea to either sand the enamel paint before you paint over it, or wash it with TSP (trisodium phosphate) cleaner to remove the gloss.

What should you do to your room to make it look nicer?

To "refresh" your room or make it look nice (P.S. this is for a tween/teen room).

Well, if you have a big room, then on one side, add a purple/lime/pink/blue colored swivel chair to the area by a desk/place you can write with. On the other side, you can have your dresser, and on top, I suggest you put a lava lamp, (if you have) a fish tank with fish (very very optional) or anything you like. Next to it, ask an adult or you to mount a full-length mirror on the wall. Next to the mirror, (still optional) put one of those circle-ish round chairs, found at justice (I think), Home Depot, or Office Depot, I'm just not sure what those chairs are called.

On the other side of your room, ask an adult to mount a TV on your wall, so you won't get bored. (But that's only if you have the money) On your desk, place a mug on it, and fill it with supplies like pencils, scissors, glue, markers, etc. Tape posters of your favorite celebrities or athletes (only if you're a tween/teen). If you're an adult, then just leave your room white or paint it a color you like.

Or a less costly way is to first clean-up the room by picking up any garbage, paper or junk off the floor or furniture. Dust, sweep, mop or vacuum the floor. Get rid of spider webs from the ceiling/wall area. Wash any dirty clothes and put away clean clothes. In general put things back where they belong. Address the smell issue by using scented candles or spray air freshener. Painting a room can give it a new look if it is possible in your room to do so. Flowers can also brighten a room if you like that sort of thing. Move things/furniture/decorations around to change things and give the room a new feel and look nicer. Display in a neat order the things that you like. Get rid of unnecessary clutter.

Why is glass used in architecture and interior design?

Answer

Glass is used for its partial transparency, to connect a place with another without the barriers of a wall, also it is commonly used to let light pass through a place, so a specific place will be lighter, so the colors and the design will show, so the use of artificial electric energy is used less during the day, and the sunlight, or moonlight carries into the space.
