Why do you think it is important to know the history of the internet?
Personal reflections:
There are several reasons. Remember that the internet does not go back several decades. When people were first developing the ideas that turned into modern computer technology, not many of them had a clear idea that such a thing as the internet would come into existence. But once computer technology had developed to a certain point, smart people saw a concept, a connection that could not have been thought of before. They built on brilliant ideas that came before them. Since the advent of the internet, many people have done several similar things-- building on ideas that came before. You could put Steve Jobs in this group. It would be very interesting studying how people take the world as it is and somehow dream up what is coming next, while still staying grounded in reality! The grounding in reality is the thing that makes many of the advancements possible. It's great to have a brilliant idea, but if there is no way to make the connections that will bring the idea to life, then your idea becomes a 'pipedream'.
Especially with computer-related technology changing as rapidly as it does, having a careful look at how it is growing and developing is very important. If you don't have some idea how savvy people have brought us forward, it's probably a good bet that you won't be one of them.
Also, the truth is that our technology is taking part in how WE are EVOLVING as human beings. This may seem like a strange idea. But as technology advances rapidly, we may not be fully realizing how the new technology is inviting us to change. In a sense, we are creating ourselves, but with a few big blind spots along the way. Studying the history of the internet and related technology, especially about how it changes and develops, may be the new 'psychology' of the 21st century.

What are examples of real-life transverse and longitudinal waves?
An example of a longitudinal wave is a sound wave. These waves are composed of compressions (where the waves are close to each-other), and rare-fractions (where the waves are farther away). For instance when you clap your hands, you are compressing the air particles in between your hands for a split second which makes the clapping noise you are familiar with. This is how speakers work, they hit the air thousands of times per second at various frequencies to make sounds. longitudinal waves need a medium to travel through such as air. In space longitudinal waves such as sound do not travel.
transverse waves such as light or microwaves do not need a medium to travel through and travel at the speed of light (186,200 miles per second). They are made up of different frequency photons. The frequency of the photons determines whether the wave is an x-ray, a microwave, or visible light. Yes these are all the same wave at different frequencies.

What is the proper etiquette on using the Internet?
Generally it is a good idea to read quite a few posts on a forum before writting anything yourself. This way you will get a feel for what is and isn't acceptable. Different moderators have different ideas on what is ok.
Here are some general rules;
Always post in the correct category.
Keep to the thread of the orignal post, don't go off topic.
Start a new thread only when you HAVE to, check older threads to see if they can be used first.
(These rules make it easy for others to find the information they are looking for.)
Never insult people.
Never use language which could offend. This includes swearing, blasphemy, racist, sexist or homophobic remarks.
Try to avoid topics which could offend, religion, questionable morality, childabuse, underage drinking or drug use etc. unless that is what the forum is for.
(These rules are because people from many different backgrounds will be using the forum. Think about what you would or wouldn't want your boss/mum/a 7 year old child to read - they very well could be reading your post!)
Don't write in capital letters because it means your shouting.
Remember to stay safe on-line;
Never give out personal details on-line in forums anyone can be reading them. Never ask for other peoples detail either (and warn others not to if you can).
Never say anything you would regret- your words are being recorded!
