In the IP Protocol What is the header overhead?

Internet Protocol, or IP, puts a header on every packet that it sounds out. This header is the overhead. All protocols, such as TCP or UDP, will put a header on the packet. The IP header contains information such as source IP address and destination IP address and is used by routers to figure out where to send the packet.

ex. you send your friend a 1kb file, but it takes up 1.5kb of bandwidth due to overhead

What is the purpose of internet advertising and marketing?

The main purpose of internet advertising and marketing is to reach a wider audience. People online see a product or company online, and then will know about the existence of the product and may be inclined to then purchase it. Another purpose is to grow a brand further. Perception might be that a brand that advertises online is somehow "better" or "more established", especially if the competition does not utilize online marketing.

How is subnetting done?

Read the book Network+ by Todd Lammle. I still need to perfect it though...

or there is a three step process to do which dumbs it down into a super easy process that works.

1. Find the number of networks and convert into binary.

for example, you need 5 networks so in binary that is 00000101

2.Reserve the bits in the subnet mask then find the increment

for example if the binary number that you need is 00000101 then its 3 bits. then the 3 bits will be placed as 1's from the left to the right until there are no more bits to place. (note: if 255.255.255.0 = 11111111.11111111.11111111.11100000 will be the subnet converted into binary) the Increment will be the lowest network bit that you have, converted into a decimal number. (i.e. in 11100000, the lowest network bit is 32)

3.Use the increment to find your network ranges.

x.x.x.0-x.x.x.31

x.x.x.5-x.x.x.63

x.x.x.64-x.x.x.95

x.x.x.96-x.x.x.127

.....

.......

........and so on and so forth all the way up to x.x.x.254

Blogging: you can create large pieces of writing and include pictures, video, audio etc all in the one entry.

Twitter: each tweet is only 140 characters and so you're sending quick messages on what you're upto at that moment, rather than a "diary entry" like you might do on a blog.

That's why, tweeting is referred to a "Micro Blogging" & you can use it to display video/audio/images by including a link inside your tweet.

Twitter offers a URL shortner and there are plenty of them out there to help you make the most out the 140-char limit.

Difference between twisted pair cables and fibre optic cables?

1. Unless you go to proprietory fibre, both can go to 1000Mb/s, so neither has a great speed advantate.

2. Wired is much cheaper. It's not the fibre that's expensive, but the terminations and the adapters.

3. Fibre can do much longer distances. Basic multimode 500 m. Monomode many kilometres. In theory wired is limited to 100 m. In practice you can get reliable connection at 100 Mb/s with up to 200 m. For 1000 MB/s, about 150m is the norm.

4. Fibre requires no electrical connection. So there are no problems about the earth potential being different in different buildings. In many practical situations, this isn't a major problem.

5. Lightening strikes on the ground can, in theory, damage switches connected with cables. In practice, over 8 years of plenty of lightening storms connecting separated buildings in a school site of 5 acres we have had no lightening problems.
