well first you need to know that it can be more then one item. so a little inspection is in order. have someone, engine running brake on, move the steering wheel back and forth a2 to 3 inches while you look at the steering linkage. areas that are weak are: drag link end (tie rod end that attaches to the pitman arm on the gear box) if it moves side to side and or pops up and down change it.
the frame. yup the frame can be cracked. look close at the gear box mounting brackets. are they moving around? if yes, remove bolts, clean and reinstall with lock tight.
check the frame rails where they attach to front cross member and the bumper bolts. what your looking for is movement. any is bad. if all that is good there is a "slip joint" on the shaft that connects to the gear box. see if there is any play there. (a trick, if play is present remove clip holding rubber cover in place, pull joint apart and you will notice 2 small "slip bushings" very carefully remove the spring clip and turn the slip bushings (square bushings) 180 degrees and reinstall with clean grease.
and last-- take your jeep to a good alignment shop and have the suspension and steering inspected.
18436572 should be the same for the 304 v8 with either ignition as the motor is timed to make it run in a balanced smooth manner. After the electronic sends voltage to the coil the system functions the same as a conventional breaker system.
into the tranny itself..mine 727 torqueflite..you should be able to see it easily..remember you will probably get fluid coming out while removing. i am replacing mine soon, it has been broken for some time now..shows 48,000 on my dj...probably close, but it s a drag guessing your mph around town.

I would get a larger bolt. I would get a larger bolt. If I wanted to make a bolt fit into a larger hole, I would use a SMALLER bolt than the hole.
vapor lock.
On my CJ6 Jeep also with a inline 6 engine the firing order = 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4.
The metal panel between the hood and windshield is removed to service the wiper motor.
On my 79 CJ5 with a 304 V8 there is a adjusting screw on the side of thecarburetor (side that the throttle cable is on) where the throttle shaft goes in. You turn this in to increase engine speed. This should be the same on a CJ7. Of course this is providing the engine is tuned and running properly.
Note: This is not the two air mixture screws on the bottom of the carb. Don't move these unless you know what you are doing.
The 304 had a displacement of 303.92 CID (4,980.3 cc) which produced 210 hp (157 kW) in 1970-71 and was built starting in 1970.[1] Later models produced less power from the factory, going down yearly. 1972-78 models were rated at 150 hp (112 kW). It was rated at 130 hp (97 kW) in 1979, the last year it was installed in passenger cars, and 125 hp (93 kW) in 1980-81, the last years it was used in Jeep vehicles

measure the center of one hole to the center of the opposite hole. that measurement is the second number of the bolt pattern. the first number simply how many bolts there are. So, 5 X 5 1/2" means there are 5 bolts and the distance from one bolt hole to the opposite bolt hole is 5 1/2"
