Kosher Food

Kosher food is food that meets Jewish dietary laws. Any food can be called kosher food if it adheres to Jewish law. Foods that are considered Jewish aren't necessarily kosher. Kosher food laws are rather extensive, some are derived from the bible and others through rabbinic interpretations over the years.

Some Six Flags Great Adventure parks have kosher food. You would need to call the park in question to confirm. Based on online reports though, if you get confirmation that there is kosher food available, confirm exactly which food vendors are kosher as park staff don't always have that information once you are there.

No, it is not. - old answer from someone else.

My answer: Actually, Z23 is fine while Z30 may have a problem. Z23 is pure rum from sugar cane and is similar to pure whiskeys, not needing supervision or a hechsher. In the past, Z30 has used wine as a softening additive, and can't be trusted.

Meanwhile, Z23 is available at on-line kosher stores.

How would the care of a Jewish person differ from a non-Jewish person?

This question is like asking "do people act different because of the religion they were born into." Jews do not inherently all act the same way, contrary to the stereotypical Jewish image the media likes to portray (a woody allen type figure). Therefore, besides for being absent on different holidays, there no reason for Jewish to differ from the care of a non-Jew.

If the requirements for kosher food are for animals to have split hooves and to chew their cud would a pig that chewed its cud be considered kosher?

Answer 1

No. The rules are not in place for the individual animal, but apply to the species as a whole.

Answer 2

That is actually a question worthy of a detailed answer. We know this because such an occurrence actually came to pass. In Brazil, about a decade ago, there was a pig born with a certain genetic abnormality that required it to chew its cud and therefore fall within the kosher requirements. Rabbis from all over the world convened to discuss whether or not this pig could be considered kosher. They ultimately decided that this pig met the qualifications to be kosher, but should still not be deemed kosher. The fear was that the consumption of this pig would confuse other Jews and non-Jews into believing that pork in general is consumable (which it is not) because the appearance of this pig and its meat is no different than any other pig and its meat.

Is granola a kosher product?

Provided the granola contains no animal products it is parve - that is, neutral, neither kosher nor treif (not kosher) and as such can be eaten by Jews.

_______

The above answer is not clear. Any commercial food item must be certified kosher by a recognised organisation to be considered kosher. If the granola product is certified kosher, it is a kosher product.

There are four categories of food according to kashrut: meat, dairy, pareve, and treif. Pareve refers to any food item that does not contain meat or dairy but may contain eggs and/or fish. Treif refers to any food that is not kosher.

What are the forbidden foods for judaism?

Jews may not eat animals that do not have split hooves and chew the cud (so, no pork/ bacon). Even the animals we can eat must be slaughtered in a specific way, which causes minimum pain to the animal and drains almost all the blood. Jews may not eat any blood, so all meats need to be salted and soaked in a special way to clear all blood. We can't eat fish that don't have fins and scales nor oysters, lobsters, shrimp or crab. We don't eat insects (we even check our vegetables to make sure they are clean of insects). Jews have a short list of forbidden birds, but generally stick to chicken and turkey and occasionally duck and quail. Manufactured products are only OK if the factory meets the standards of local kosher authorities, who need to check the ingredients and the cleaning processes of the plant to make sure no forbidden foods slip in.
