What is the importance of the code of practice?

Having a code of practice will help employees' behavior remain aligned with the organization's objectives. A code of practice is similar to a code of ethics.

Would a patient with a TSH level of 3.68 be considered to have hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism?

A TSH of 3.68 is within the normal range. However, doctors like to see a TSH between .3 and 3 in those patients receiving thyroid replacement medications. Additionally, normal for one person may not be normal for another. Just as I wear a different shoe size than my husband, everyone's systems require different levels for them to feel well. My husband's shoe size is normal, so is mine. I will not be comfortable wearing his shoes all day however. A TSH test only shows an average value of your thyroid status over the last several weeks. You may still be experiencing periods of high and/or low thyroid and your TSH will appear normal. Knowing the level of your Free T3 and Free T4 as well as antibody levels will help determine what is going on and if you need treatment. When a TSH appears high, a patient is considered hypOthyroid. When a TSH is low, a patient is considered hypERthyroid.

What is mildly elevate TSH level?

Mildly elevated would be about 4.25-5.0. So if yours was in that range this is mild but it means your thyroid itself was not producing enough hormones (t3 and t4) so your pituitary gland in brain released more TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to stimulate thyroid to prod more. But the high TSH means HYPOthyroisim. Under active thyroid which your doc would prob treat with a simple med called synthroid. Generic levothyroxine. This is a pill containing different form of the hormone (s) to make up for what your thyroid isn't producing.

What purpose does the total iron-binding capacity test serve?

The TIBC test measures the amount of iron that the blood would carry if the transferrin were fully saturated. Since transferrin is produced by the liver, the TIBC can be used to monitor liver function and nutrition.

Can someone with a shellfish allergy have a thyroid scan?

The reason why shellfish allergy is asked is because of the link between shellfish allergy and iodine allergy (shellfish are rich in iodine). That does not mean that if your allergic to shellfish then you are allergic to iodine - you may be allergic to another component that is in the shellfish.

Iodine is used in the thyroid scan as a dye and is injected into your veins. If you are allergic then the reaction would be quite quick and potentially serious. Asking about a shellfish allergy is to try to risk stratify those that may be more susceptible for a reaction and "prepare" the technician / radiologist for the worse case scenario.

The main allergic reaction we would be worried about would be true anaphylaxis (if you've not heard of this then you probably not had it). Rashes and facial swelling would indicate a allergic reaction. Sickness, diarrhea and feeling "off" would suggest an intolerance rather than a true allergic reaction.

Only nonliving things are radioactive?

No. All things are radioactive, including living things and even humans. All matter (save a few) emits gamma radiation spontaneously.

What effect can the rh factor have on a second child if the mothers blood type is o and the husband blood type is ab negative?

Depends if the mum is O+ / O-, and if the first child is rh + or rh-. The fathers blood type is irrelevent except for that in this case in means that the unborn baby could be either rh+ or rh-.

If the mum is O- and the first baby was O+ then it is possible that the mum may have developed Anti D (an immune response to the 1st babys rh + antigen), if this is the case and this mum is now pregnant with another rh+ baby then she may mount an immune response to the baby causing Haemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) or potentially miscarrying the baby. HDN usually just means a very anaemic baby.

During/ after the first pregnancy the mum should have been monitored and if it were needed given a dose of propholactic anti D, which would prevent her from making her own anti D, thus avoiding any risk to the second baby. During the second pregnancy any anti D made by the mum would be detected by the blood bank and steps taken to protect the unborn baby.

Just for clarity- if the blood group is O+ this means the group is O and the rh factor is present eg. rh+. O- means group O, rh- etc.

Can a mom with rh positive and a father with an o negative have an o positive child?

Yes, this has to do not with the sugars (A or B, type O is a lack of either of these sugars) but with a gene that attaches the sugars to the cell surface, we'll call this gene H. If one of the parents is deficient in gene H the parent may MAKE the A or B sugars but it has no way of being attached to the cell surface so the parent looks like they are type O. If the actual type O parent contributes a functioning H gene and the other "fake type O" parent contributes the gene that codes for the A sugar the child can be type A. This is an example of recessive epistasis.

Why dos your left testicle sag more?

Believe it or not, your body is not symmetric. your right half is ever so slightly different from your left, ears & hands even feet are not exact mirror images of each other. On the inside your body is very different, hardly any symmetry at all, Only one liver, one heart, one stomach.

To assume that your testicles will be the same size and hang the same is an assumption you shouldn't make, they seldom do. Nothing wrong with it, just the way we are made. Think about it & share the love!

Can AB father and A mother have O baby?

Yes. The mother has to be OO And the father can be either AA or AO So the mother can give one of her O's to the baby and the father can give his O to the baby making it an OO.
