What is wrong when Breasts are tender Nipples are sore to touch and breast feeding a 4 week old?

Your latch is wrong, contact a LLL rep or lactation consultant and organise them to send someone to you to help get it right.

Smoking marijuana and breastfeeding?

Dumb idea! We nurse our children to give them the best possible start in life. By smoking marijuana, the toxins in the marijuana quickly get into your bloodstream and then just as quick into the milk you will be feeding your baby. You wouldn't ever think of sticking a lit joint into your baby's mouth, but by smoking it yourself and then nursing your baby you are doing just that. Help your baby grow strong, stay away from pot.

Do you use hot or cold compresses when breastfeeding?

Hot usually works best, but try them both and use whichever one gives you the most comfort.

What is a breast for?

In women it is for breast feeding their children.

Can you breastfeed after getting a tooth filled?

Yes, most dental procedures have no effect on breast milk. You may want to ask your dentist about the specific anesthesia being used in your procedure, then cross-reference with your doctor or a lactation consultant. If you are comfortable with your baby drinking from a bottle, you may choose to pump some milk in advance so the baby can feed even if you're still suffering some discomfort or drowsiness.

Does breast feeding affect fertility?

Lactation does change the hormonal balance, making it less likely that a breastfeeding woman will get pregnant. Please note that "less likely" is not "impossible;" it's not a reliable method of birth control.

Will insurance pay for breast augmentation after breast feeding and breasts are not the same size?

Most likely not. My sister needed a breast reduction and the insurance company fought her tooth and nail saying it was cosmetic. Even though she has brittle bone disease and it was causing her spine problems. They denied her claim and she had to visit several doctors and fight for some months before she got it approved.

Your breasts not being the same size is purely cosmetic, you don't like the way they look. It doesn't put your body in any physical danger. You may get really lucky and convince a psychologist that it causes you emotional distress to the point where you need the surgery, but that's a 1 in a million shot at the insurance company paying.

Worse comes to worse, try and get it approved, the worst they can do is tell you no!

How many months will a mother lactate after giving childbirth?

If she is breast feeding her child, she can lactate for years as long as she is getting herself sucked dry 2-3 times in a day.

If she has stopped breast feeding, her breasts will stop producing milk after 4-6 months.

Do squirrels breastfeed?

A squirrel is a mammal and all mammals breastfeed their young, so yes, squirrels do breastfeed.

What does a mother need to know about breastfeeding?

1. It's the best thing you can do for your baby and your bond with your baby. It's also a lot cheaper than buying formula.

2. It can take up to 6 weeks to get a good relationship and supply established so don't give up before then and don't introduce ANY bottles until 2-3 weeks.

3. If you plan on going back to work and continuing to breastfeed, you need a good electric double pump like the Medela Pump-in-Style.

How can you nurse your baby and pump enough milk for when you go back to work?

I have had to this myself and this is the method I used.

You need to express breast milk between feedings when the baby will not be nursing. For example, if your baby feeds every 4 hours, you can manually express or pump milk 2 hours after the baby has eaten. This would also be 2 hours before your baby feeds again allowing for refilling of the breast before the next feeding. If your baby sleeps at a long interval at a certain time, such as nap or bedtime, you should try to express the milk then. After doing this for a few days, you will begin to produce more milk than your baby needs so you can start to store some.

You need to make sure that your milk supply does not decrease when going back to work, though. If you are gone for many hours, you may need to pump milk at some time during your shift, depending on how long your shift is and whether or not you have noticed having less milk. You may also experience leaking or engorgement while away from baby, as I had this problem.

I used to take some sterilized bottles with me to work and manually express once or twice on breaks. I would then put the bottles into a lunchbox in the refrigerator to take home to add to my supply. This helped me to have an adequate supply while working long hours away from my baby. After getting yourself used to this routine, it will take less time to express the milk. It used to take me about 5-8 minutes to fill an 8oz. bottle.

I heard that if a woman is around a very young newborn she could start lactating. Is this true?

What you are referring to is called sympathetic letdown. This can happen when a woman who is nursing hears a baby crying. Her body responds to the call for help from the baby and the flood gates open. However if a woman is not currently lactating, just being around babies will not "turn on" her milk. If this were true, then every woman working at daycare centers would be a fountain of milk.

Can you give your kitten human breast milk?

It is not recommended because just like a human baby needs either human breast milk or human formula, baby kittens need either cat breast milk or kitten formula.

If you've been very sick for the past 2 days and were not breastfeeding and now are only producing a few drops of milk is there any way to start producing milk again?

Yes. If you buy a hand breast pump and frequently extract milk, the amounts should increase. Alternatively you can continue to breast feed and if you are not sure of the amounts the baby is getting, try weighing the infant before and after feeds.

Answer:Start by keeping up your fluids and trying to get baby to breast as often as possible. Remember, milk production is a supply and demand system. Because the demand was down for a couple of days, your supply is down. But if you can trick your body into believing that demand is back up stronger than ever, supply should return. If that doesn't work there is a supplement called Domperidone which is widely available and given to nursing mothers in every country EXCEPT the United States. For some reason, here they use Reglan which has some harsh side effects (like depression and weight gain -- neither of which a nursing mother needs to cope with). However, if you do a little research, you can easily get Domperidone (also called Motilium) and you can find out how to use it by reading Dr Jack Newman's articles. He has some great information as well as instructions for its use. He's a Canadian breastfeeding expert and a Godsend to nursing mothers. Answer:In reference to the first answer, hand pumps are a much harder way to express milk than a electric or battery powered pump. And i personally found it really hard to express a full serving. Also building up your milk supply takes time, so don't stress yourself out about not having enough to fill your baby for the first few days/week as Stress can reduce your milk flow even more. i breast fed twins for four months and i must say it was the most demanding and stressful thing I've ever done in my life - but well worth it!!!

What does it mean when a woman lifts her top and shows you her breast's?

If it in public then she is an exhibitionist. If in private go with the flow.

How do you wean a baby off of the bottle?

When you decide to wean your baby from a bottle to a cup, a variety of techniques can make the transition easier on you both. Steps: 1. Offer your baby a cup instead of a bottle, and follow his cues. He may seem interested and may drink from it properly; if he has trouble or just refuses, try again in a few days. 2. Make a family policy that your baby can't walk around with his drink or play with his bottle. This will make it clear that he needs to eat at regular meal and snack times, rather than always holding on to the bottle. Follow similar rules yourself so you don't send mixed messages. 3. Substitute other things that will comfort your baby if he seems to be using his bottle as a pacifier. These should include extra attention and affection, as well as special games, toys and books. 4. If your baby gets thirsty at night, keep a spillproof cup of water nearby and offer it to him in lieu of a bottle when he wakes. The nighttime bottle is often the most difficult to lose, but doing so is important. Using formula, milk or juice at night harms your baby's dental health, as the liquid will pool in the mouth, coat the teeth and lead to severe decay. Bottles also pose a choking hazard. Tips: If your baby does not seem fond of cow's milk, don't despair. There are many other excellent sources of calcium and protein, such as tofu and yogurt. Remember that your baby still needs good nutrition; a 1-year-old should drink about 4 cups of milk daily, depending on how much solid food he takes in. Many babies become addicted to juice during weaning; try to make it an occasional treat rather than a regular part of your baby's diet. Try using a cup that features your child's favorite book, TV or movie characters; this may help him get excited about using it.
