There are two built-in ways to take a screenshot on a Mac. The first one will take a picture of the entire screen. This is done by pressing the Command, shift and #3 keys simultaneously.

The second way is to take a picture of part of your screen. This is done by pressing the Command, shift and #4 keys simultaneously. A Crosshairs will appear on your screen. Click and hold down to drag the crosshairs over whatever section of the screen you want to capture. This will produce a picture of the selected area of the screen.

Most of the time I have built my own from parts. They have been more stable than proprietary computers. A forgotten cost however is all the software that comes on the proprietary computers including operating system and other possibly useful programs depending on what you need to do.

There are several emulators to run other systems software on Windows, but there is nothing decent (as in working reliably with any software) for running Mac OS X software on Windows.
