What is a nautical rope?

Answer 1

Gererally, a nautical rope is called a 'line' unless it has a specific function. The word "rope" is not typically used in the marine industry.

A 'halyard' is a line used as a hoist (as for a sail).

A 'sheet' is a line used to trim a sail.

'Tackle' is a collection of lines and blocks ("pulleys") used to gain mechanical advantage.

'Rode' is the line connecting an anchor to the boat. Usually it's part chain and part line.

Springs and breast lines are used to tie a boat to a dock.

A snubber is a short piece of nylon line used to provide some elasticity to a loaded line.

Answer 2

A rope used at sea that will not degrade chemically under the action of water and Sun.

In commercial use for mooring and towing, polypropylene is the type of rope use most commonly because it is cheap and it has some elasticity.

For ropes that must not be elastic, like the shrouds supporting a mast, kevlar is a good alternative to steel.

What do you call a rope to guide a horse?

Horse BridalThe rope to guide a horse is called a horse bridal. The main piece that guides the horse is called a bit; it is inserted inside the horse's mouth which is connected to the noseband, reins and cheek piece. The reins are what the rider holds. The rider pulls the reins left, right or backwards - which pulls at the bit in the horse's mouth - resulting in guiding the horse.

More pieces to the horse bridal are the throat-lash, headpiece, and browband.

How does the jaw crusher work?

A jaw crusher reduces large size rocks or ore by placing the rock into a fixed jaw, mounted in a "V" alignment. The fixed jaw plate is the stationary breaking surface, while the movable jaw plate exerts force on the rock by forcing it against the fixed jaw plate. The space at bottom of the "V" is the crusher product size gap, or the size of the crushed product from the jaw crusher.

The jaw crusher machine uses motor as its power. Through the motor's wheels, the shaft is driven by the triangle belt and slot wheel to make the movable jaw plate move by a regulated track.

Why we don't use milling machine as driiling machine?

Although a milling machine is capable of drilling, it can be more productively achieved on a drill press or radial arm drill. Due to the complexity of the milling machine's function and the cost of its operation, it would not be feasible to use it for drilling. There are exceptions where using the milling machine for drilling a workpiece might be a better option.

Name the parts which can fix or slide on the lathe bed?

The tailstock, turret Stock, and steady rest are capable of sliding and/or being fixed on the bed! The Tailstock to center the workpiece, and help prevent deflection. The turret stock to perform work on the end of the workpiece, the steady rest can be fixed neat the end of a long workpiece to stabilize it for work. And then there's the follow rest which can be fixed (bolted) to the saddle (so now it slides) opposite the tool bit to prevent deflection when turning in the middle of a long workpiece then removed! I'm VERY SURE I'm ignorant of many ADDITIONAL Sliding and Fixable thingies!!!

What is the principle of car jack?

There are at least three kinds:

  1. hydraulic jack: A pump with a small-diameter piston and cylinder is operated to produce hydraulically pressurised liquid. This liquid is directed again a large piston. Since this piston is larger that the one in the pump, although the force acting on, say, a square centimetre is the same the overall force is much larger and great enough to lift a car.
  2. scissor jack: The jack is in the form of a four-sided figure with hinges at the corners. A screw is mounted horizontally so that it can rotate at one corner of the square and turn inside a thread at the opposite corner. As the screw tightens it pulls the opposite sides of the four-sided figure together forcing the top of the figure up.
  3. rack-and-pinion jack: The jack consists of a long, large diameter screw with a threaded hook on it. As the screw is turned the hook is pulled up.

* Correction - Wonder Woman carries a lariat, and when she uses it it is the Lasso of Truth. Lasso is a verb, and does not describe the rope but its use.

How does length of gas nozzle effect mig welding?

The legth of the gas nozzle can affect the MIG welding process because it modifies the "electrode extension" or so called stickout.

The longer the nozzle the longer electrode extension needed to keep the arc away from it thus the value od the welding current and arc voltage changes. These changes will have a great effect on the weld.

How do you make a stainless steel blade on a folding knife turn black?

This is an expensive and dangerous thing to do. The chemicals, which are not good for you to touch or breath, are expensive, and the equipment to heat them and use them is expensive.

You could take the knife to a metal-working shop or a gun shop and ask them about it.

The 'black oxide' process might be cheapest . . .
